Heaven’s Devourer Chapter 1690

Wu Yu stood proudly with his Ruyi Jingu Bang in the middle of the battleground.
Zhou Niancang wasn't a match for him!
In fact, he even had a little revelation from the single wave of the Ruyi Jingu Bang earlier.
If the Bedlam of Heaven and Earth was just the first Mystique he uncovered from the Ruyi Jingu Bang, there were definitely more dominant Mystiques that could further strengthen him in battle once he uncovered them in the future.
All along, he had wanted to undo the second seal on the Ruyi Jingu Bang. Unfortunately, his attempts had been futile.
Moments ago, when he unleashed unparalleled battle will, he seemed to have felt the will from the Great Sage, Heaven's Equal. It was that arrogance and fearlessness.
"It's a shame that Zhou Niancang is still too weak!"
Wu Yu found it regretful.
If Zhou Niancang was a little stronger and could take two or three strikes from him, he might be able to better feel the will of the Great Sage, Heaven's Equal and attempt to break the second seal on the Ruyi Jingu Bang.
"Regardless, at least I've reached the brink of a breakthrough......"
Wu Yu didn't feel too bad about it.
When Limitless Confusion Immortal Emperor announced his victory, he took a final glance at Zhou Niancang, who still couldn't believe the outcome, before returning to the spectator stands.
Defeated by Wu Yu in a single strike had left Zhou Niancang in a trance. He would never have expected this. It was supposed to be him defeating Wu Yu with his strongest Sky River Godly Sword, Raged Bifurcating Sky River! How could the outcome be the complete opposite as he was defeated in a single strike?
He naturally wouldn't know that when Wu Yu was releasing Bedlam of Heaven and Earth, Wu Yu also cast Violent Art and crusader heavenly rule. He was only able to unleashed the terrorizing strength with the two powers stacking on him.
The clash of the strongest strikes from both parties ended in a victory for Wu Yu.
Zhou Niancang was dejected and brought back to the spectator stand by Marshal Tian You.
Marshal Tian You was visibly disgruntled. He had never imagined his son to be so casually dispatched and he felt embarrassed.
Lei Tianyuan, the son of Father of Thunder and Mother of Lightning, still exchanged several blows and put on a good fight against Wu Yu. Why did Wu Yu unleash his explosive strength to finish his son off in a single move?
"Is he intentionally targeting me?" Although Marshal Tian You felt this wasn't likely, he was still disgruntled. He glanced at Wu Yu, snorted and turned away.
He knew they were standing on opposite ends. It wouldn't be possible to ask Wu Yu to show mercy. However, he still felt it was too embarassing that his son lost to Wu Yu in this manner.

"You better cultivate harder when you get back. You can't even defeat that Wu Yu and you have embarrassed me!" Marshal Tian You reprimanded his son.
"Father! It isn't I, who am weak. It's because that Wu Yu is a little strange!"
Zhou Niancang was indignant. He gritted his teeth and continued, "In my view, even if Yang Qiang or Zhou Niancang is facing him, he would still be a tough nut to crack for them!"
"Don't find excuses for when you lose!"
Marshal Tian You berated him again and shut him off.
His expression gloomed as he stared at Wu Yu. He truly hoped it would just be as what his son had claimed. If even Yang Qiang or Li Tianji wasn't a match for Wu Yu, he would be able to preserve his face and wouldn't become the subject of public denunciation.
If that was true, wouldn't that mean Wu Yu was going to be first in the Immortal Emperor Trials?
As compared to him losing face, letting Wu Yu achieving first would be even more abhorred. After all, the first in Immortal Emperor Trials had always been one of the descendants of immortal emperors.
Even if years when there weren't many immortal emperor descendants, other mortal-born immortal would find it equally difficult to win all the way.
"Wu Yu has truly made our Mettle Sky proud! Great! Great!"
"Amazing! To think that the son of Marshal Tian You was sent flying off in a single strike, how gratifying is that! Haha!"
When Wu Yu returned, the disciples of Patriarch Bodhi around him all gave Wu Yu a thumbs-up.
They were all seniors of Wu Yu.
They were all mortal-born immortals who eventually became immortal emperor. Everyone of them had gone through an arduous path that immortal emperor descendants couldn't have imagined. In the past, mortal-born immortals had always underperformed in the Immortal Emperor Trials.
And now, there's Wu Yu who seemed capable of making a run for first!
This iteration of Immortal Emperor Trials had the son of True Lord Erlang, Yang Qiang, the son of Nezha, Li Tianji, and many other formidable experts. It was supposed to be the most competitive iteration. Therefore, it wasn't easy for Wu Yu to make his way into the quarter-finals.
Obviously, if he was capable of advancing further, his seniors would also be even more glad.
Unfortunately, they knew each step beyond the quarter-finals would become exceptionally difficult. Every opponent had to be faced with one's full strength in order to win.
After Wu Yu defeated Zhou Niancang, several battles ensuded and the fourth round of Immortal Emperor Trials came to and end.
At this point, the finalists for the quater-finals had been determined.
"And now, let us invite the final eight participants onto the battleground to prepare for the final stage!"

Following Limitless Confusion Immortal Emperor's announcement, the final eight young immortal kings entered the battleground and stood in the middle of the Giant Astral Prison.
When Yang Qiang and Li Tianji entered the battleground, the surrounding immortal emperors cheered. Without a doubt, both of them were the hot favorites and widely regarded by the crowd to be the two strongest among the group.
Following closely behind would be the son of Central Ecliptic Great Yellow Horn Immortal, Jiang Taiji, and the daughter of Dong Hua Great Emperor Lord, Peach Cloud Fairy.
Both of them were also favorites to advance into the semi-finals.
Wu Yu and the other three immortal emperor descendants had outstanding performances in the trials too. Although they might be a little weaker than Yang Qiang and Li Tianji, they could still make it into the semi-finals if they got lucky.
When Wu Yu entered the battleground, the attention of the crowd were all gathered onto him.
The immortal emperors of Mettle Sky started cheering and Wu Yu's name reverberated in the Giant Astral Prison.
The large commotion left the guest immortal emperors that came to spectate disgruntled. Would cheering louder make it possible for Wu Yu to win in his next battle?
Not a single one from the other seven participants would be easy to defeat.
Even the weakest in public's opinion could still put up a fight against Yang Qiang. Considering the lineup, it definitely wasn't easy for Wu Yu to advance further.
When Wu Yu got onto the battleground, Yang Qiang glanced at him coldly. Sinister killing intention slowly crept up.
Before the Immortal Emperor Trials started, he had declared he would kill Wu Yu in the Immortal Emperor Trials before his father and the Four Heavenly Kings. It was just a casual remark then as he had never expected he would have the chance to encounter Wu Yu.
To his surprise, Wu Yu overcame his opponents step by step. Even Lei Tianyuan and Zhou Niancang were defeated by him as Wu Yu advanced into the quarter-finals.
Yang Qiang still had some admiration of Wu Yu. As an immortal that cultivated from the mortal domain, he had his limitations. For him to possess the battle strength he had today, it wasn't easy.
However, this wouldn't mean he saw Wu Yu as a threat.
Anyone of the eight finalist would be an extremely difficult opponent for Wu Yu. As for Yang Qiang, there's no uncertainty over him making into the semi-finals. This was the difference between them.
In Yang Qiang's view, Wu Yu was elite among the immortals that had ascended from the mortal domain. However, Yang Qiang was the elite among immortal emperor descendants.
If they were to meet, Wu Yu was bound to lose without doubt!
In fact, he would be serious about killing Wu Yu in battle so as to eliminate a small problem for his father.
"Wu Yu, you are pretty daring to reach here. Haha!"
Li Tianji had entered the battleground. When he saw the crowd chanting Wu Yu's name, he was irated. However, the moment he recalled he had a good chance of encountering Wu Yu in battle in the quarter-finals, he couldn't help but be excited.
He wished he would face Wu Yu directly so he could prove to Luo Pin he's way stronger than Wu Yu!
When Wu Yu entered the battleground, he felt he was the epicenter of troubles.
The other seven participants were all immortal emperor descendants. They received the most orthodox grooming since young and had never lacked cultivation resources. Their paths of cultivation were always smooth sailing.
And now, all of them had attained the cultivation realm of 9-heavens immortal king and reached the most critical juncture of cultivation. Breaking through to become immortal emperors.
In the face of temptation of the Everlasting Battlefield, no one would show mercy in battle. All of them would give their all to emerge victorious in the end.
Even so, there was clear divide among the eight participants.
The remaining seven participants were in a group, chatting and joking casually.
And when Wu Yu entered the battleground, the seven immortal emperor descendants kept a distance from him naturally. The only one paying some attention was Li Tianji who was mocking, degrading and warning Wu Yu for what to come.
As for the rest, they didn't even want to communicate with Wu Yu.
Among the eight final participants, he was the lonely one.
However, Wu Yu didn't mind. All he had to do was to defeat all his opponents one after another and stand at the top in the end.
Regardless if it was Yang Qiang or Li Tianji, they were the same in his eyes. In fact, the stronger his opponent, the more Wu Yu would be able to push his limits in battle. .
"In one year, the eight participants would be gunning for a spot in the semi-finals. Let us look forward to it!"
After Limitless Confusion Immortal Emperor made his announcement, the crowd dispersed for now.
Just as Wu Yu was about to leave, a cold voice halted him. "Wu Yu!"
The voice was from Yang Qiang.
The son of True Lord Erlang had an expressionless look. Taking a haughty stand, he remarked, "If we meet in battle, I'll avenge Lei Tianyuan. You stand no chance in this Immortal Emperor Trials!"
After making his statement clear, Yang Qiang turned around and left.
Wu Yu didn't respond and simply smirked.
Many had said similar words to him in the past. However, none of them had a good ending. Wu Yu would like to see how incredible Yang Qiang truly was!

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
