Heaven’s Devourer Chapter 1610

Wu Yu himself was surprised that he was gaining new insights about time amidst his despair, by turning to his memories.
His experience with time manipulation so far had largely been limited to the Floating Dreams Pagoda.
Through his memory journey of a millennium, he gained new insights and experiences, which was definitely a good sign. It was enough to jumpstart his delving back into cultivation.
The passage of time was absolute, and yet it held a different meaning for cultivators depending on their realm.
In the mortal realm, 100 years was a lifetime. Before ascending, most had a few centuries. After ascending, one suddenly rose to the five and six-digit marks......
Time would seem to pass faster, but to Wu Yu, it was all the same. Except that they were refracted through the different phases of his life.
10,000 years to an immortal felt the same as a few years to a mortal. This was where time seemed to warp. As Wu Yu grasped thihs point, he felt like he had begun to make progress into the mysteries of time.
It was one of the most profound mysteries, and to be able to understand it thoroughly was not easy. Otherwise everyone would have made it part of their dao.
Fortunately, Wu Yu still had the Floating Dreams Pagoda for reference. It was full of time manipulation power, and the way it interacted with the flow of time was a constant fascination for Wu Yu. He learned from it, deriving his own knowledge about the power within.
It was a heavenly rule power, and Wu Yu's sixth heavenly rule power.
Wu Yu had assumed that he would first complete his Dao of Big and Small from Lawful Embodiment of Heaven and Earth, or Dao of the Void from his Somersault Cloud Mystique. Yet within this sealed chamber, he had actually found a new approach to things.
Rather than harp on leaving this this place, perhaps the answer would naturally present itself after he had mastered the changing of time.
The most important thing was to reach a knowledge breakthrough. He threw all his energies into it, constantly comparing and analyzing the different passings of time during his mortal days and immortal days, synthesizing patterns.

He realized that time was a notion that changed with his lifespan. And when he was cultivating, tens of thousands of years could seem like a few years. If he could somehow replicate that special phenomenon in battle, would he not be invincible?
If he could change time in battle, so that for each breath of time his opponent had, he had ten, how many more moves could he pull off?
He could send 10 Mystiques to deal with every move!
If he had such an ability, he would be invincible within his cultivation realm. Challenging 9-heavens immortal kings would also be a piece of cake.
Dao of Time Manipulation was Wu Yu's main focus now. He also studied the immortal designs of the Floating Dreams Pagoda to further deepen his understanding.
As he continued to learn, he finally mastered all of the Floating Dreams Pagoda's immortal designs. A sudden epiphany struck him, and a twisting ball of light appeared on his kingly immortal spirit.
This twisting light seemed random and unordered, but actually followed an enigmatic pattern. It represented the varying speeds of time, and had coalesced into a heavenly rule. This meant that Wu Yu had completed a new heavenly rule power: chronowarp heavenly rule!
He had originally assumed that he would have to complete his daos in order, but now the order was switched.
Having reached 6-heavens immortal king realm, he was confident of taking on 9-heavens immortal kings and demon kings easily.
After mastering chronowarp heavenly rule, Wu Yu's fighting power was unparalleled amongst those below the eternal immortal emperor realm.
This was a metamorphic change. He was surprised at his ability to make such progress within the confined chamber.
However, now that he had reached the 6-heavens immortal king realm, he was in no hurry to leave the chamber. After this revelation, he no longer minded the passing of time as much. He could calibrate his attitude at will.
After learning chronowarp heavenly rule, he first tested it out.
He realized that he could use chronowarp heavenly rule to create a chronowarp globe. Within it, he could manipulate the speed of time, and it was effective against all under the eternal immortal emperor realm.

With this, he could increase his own speed and reduce his opponent's, which could result in vastly different outcomes during battle. Against any of the five demonic emperors, Wu Yu was confident that this heavenly rule power would allow him to triumph.
Only at the 6-heavens immortal king realm could Wu Yu finally defeat 9-heavens immortal kings. This showed the rapidly increasing difficulty of each tier.
At first, Wu Yu had only been a 1-heavens immortal king, and he could already defeat a 6 or even 7-heavens demon king.
But now he had increased by 5 tiers, he could only beat a 9-heavens immortal king, which meant that he had had to increase two tiers in order to overcome one tier, subsequently.
In any case, he was here now. The Dao of Time Manipulation's completion was game-changing.
But this was not what Wu Yu was most overjoyed about. Rather, after he completed chronowarp heavenly rule, he realized that the room which trapped him was nothing more than a time field!
Time here passed 10,000 times faster.
Although Wu Yu and the others had felt that 50,000 years had passed, but in truth only 5 years had passed in reality. This little bit of time meant that he was left largely unaffected.
After learning this, Full Moon of Nanshan and Ye Xixi were crying with joy. They had thought that they would die of old age here, but now Wu Yu's breakthrough had seen the chamber for what it truly was.
Especially now that Wu Yu had seen through the chamber's secret, it seemed possible that he could eventually find a way to break it.
"Old Wu is always dependable. I always knew I made the right choice to follow him! Hehe!" Full Moon of Nanshan regained his usual jolliness. He had been pulling a long face up till now, bemoaning about how the beauties of the world were lonesome and needed his company.
"This means that the entire Eternal Emperor Tomb and Graveguarding Palace were just a sort of test? Now that Big brother Yu has passed the test, will he get a reward?" Ye Xixi was interested in this, and she was looking forward to what came next.
Full Moon of Nanshan patted her head and sighed: "Pity, pity. This handsome prince was about to settle for living with you for the rest of his life. Now it seems like this little girl won't be so lucky."
"Eurgh!"
Ye Xixi ducked away from his porky hand in disgust. "Drop dead!"
Watching their banter lifted Wu Yu's heart. They had all been beaten down in the chamber, and now that they were out, they had returned to normal.
After puzzling out the problem, Wu Yu wasted no time in unraveling the immortal designs on the walls.
He had originally mistaken these immortal designs for fortification designs. After learning chronowarp heavenly rule, he saw that all of them were time accelerating immortal designs, that sped up time within the chamber by 10,000 times.
He could deal with them now. All he needed was to attack them with the chronowarp heavenly rule, and he could soften them.
After familiarizing himself with the usage, he began to attack the time immortal designs with chronowarp heavenly rule. These immortal designs had remained immovable under his other attacks, but now they began to chip away.
From beyond the crack, a faint blue light shone through. This was the first sign of something new in all this time. He was gratified that he had finally found the way through.
"Follow me!"
Wu Yu broke out a path, and called Full Moon of Nanshan and Ye Xixi back into the Floating Dreams Pagoda. Shrinking himself with the Lawful Embodiment of Heaven and Earth, he flew through the crack, taking them all with him.
If the Eternal Emperor Tomb truly had been a test, then Wu Yu had passed the first trial.
But Wu Yu was curious. Would there be a second trial?
If the first trial had been this difficult, how much more insurmountable would the second one be?
Very quickly, his vision was filled with blue light, until he had thoroughly left the secret chamber. He found himself in a transparent crystal coffin of light blue. Through the coffin, he could see a stormy scene outside, where lightning and rains crossed!

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Dragon: Birth of an Ancient
Deep in a secluded forest, within the depths of a long forgotten cave, an unnatural silence that has reigned for little over a million years is shattered as a hatchling takes its first breath. To the various species that called this world, one of seven, home, the matter seemed beyond insignificant. The hatchling, like all monsters, had no divine backing and with its age, could only be considered a lesser existence. A being to be used by the Chosen and noble monster bloodlines in their never-ending pursuit of power, fame and immortality. However, how could any of the short-lived races, Chosen and Monster alike, know that the tiny, weak, lizard-like creature was much more than it seemed. That it was an entity only spoken of in myth and legend. From a species that their ancestors, with the backing of the Gods, paid a huge price to remove. A heretical existence that threatened the fragile peace that had descended upon their world. A Dragon. ==== ** Cover done by the amazing Felix!*** I am writing this story for a friend who is currently in hospital and in a very precarious situation. He gave me the plot/ concept and, after my own health issues, I wanted to try and brighten his day and provide a distraction from the monotony of their hospital stay. I am posting it on RRL mainly in case anyone else can find enjoyment from the story and to show the readers of my other stories that I am not permanently MIA (and will 100% return to those stories in the future).
