Chapter 1740: Another Egg
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
The Spirit Maiden knew what was going on now. An Lin had been sent down by the heavens to punish her!
What the f*ck was this about a tragedy? When had tragedy ever befallen him? The two Holy Beasts were clearly the ones who had encountered tragic fates! How could he be shameless enough to say things like attack was the best defense?
The Spirit Maiden had always thought that she was the most shameless one here. After all, she had to stoop to all types of lows in order to kill the trial-takers here.
However, never would she have thought that there would be a man even more shameless than her. He stooped to even lower lows in order to swallow the Holy Beasts here!
She wanted to kill him so badly, but she couldn’t do anything to him. She could only watch as An Lin skipped about, deriving joy from wreaking havoc everywhere he went.
The despair! The powerlessness!
“Hurry up! Where’s my Xuan Wu inheritance?” An Lin urged.
The Spirit Maiden turned to him with a sour expression. “You can’t do this. What you’re doing is not right!”
“Let me ask you this, did the Spirit Patriarch stipulate that the soul power essence here could not be eaten?” An Lin asked.
The honest Spirit Maiden shook her head.
“Then let me ask you again, did the Spirit Patriarch stipulate that the Holy Beast divine intent could not be eaten?” An Lin asked again.
The Spirit Maiden was on the verge of tears as she shook her head again.
An Lin splayed his hands open. “The Spirit Patriarch hasn’t said anything, so what are you spouting nonsense for?”
The Spirit Maiden broke down. “You’re bullying me!”
“Well, come kill me then!” An Lin responded with an infuriating, cocky grin.
The Spirit Maiden wanted to die.
Slap!
She pressed her hand to the turtle head.

The Xuan Wu statue exploded.
A gargantuan Xuan Wu appeared where the statue was.
Its snake head was enshrouded in dark water, giving it an eerie, sinister look. A green divine light shone from its mountainous and seemingly indestructible shell. When it swayed its tail lightly, a stick of golden candlelight lit up, illuminating heaven and earth.
“So you are the one who has completed my trial?” Xuan Wu’s lantern-like eyes stared at An Lin.
“Indeed, Senior.” An Lin cupped his fists in a show of respect.
The Spirit Maiden was very anxious and was petrified about what could happen next. “Senior Xuan Wu, this An Lin is an extraordinarily talented cultivator and is more deserving of your inheritance than anyone else in this world!”
The hidden meaning behind the Spirit Maiden’s words was very apparent. Stop wasting time and hurry up with the inheritance!
Please don’t walk the same path as the White Tiger and the Vermilion Bird!
To her surprise, Xuan Wu was just about to impart its inheritance, but it stopped instead upon hearing the Spirit Maiden’s words. It then appraised An Lin with intrigue. “Oh? To think that you would receive such glowing praise from the Spirit Maiden. I’m getting a little curious about your power now. How about you show me what you’re made of, and I’ll bestow upon you the core inheritance once I’m satisfied with you.”
“Sure, I’d be happy to do that.” An Lin smile.
The Spirit Maiden immediately extended a hand with a horrified expression. “No!!!”
At this moment, the whale behind An Lin opened its massive mouth and pounced toward Xuan Wu! There was a dark vortex within its mouth, and it dragged Xuan Wu’s body into the air with its astonishing suction force.
“Howl? Impudence!” Never would Xuan Wu have thought that An Lin would dare to attack it!
It opened its mouth as well, and a stream of dark water shot forth like the darkest black ink in this world. Everything that came into contact with it would be transformed into absolutely dark and lifeless water!

However, when the dark water shot into the whale’s mouth, it disappeared into the dark vortex within.
Xuan Wu was given a fright upon seeing this, and a set of shiny, green, translucent soul power armor appeared over its body.
“Xuan Wu Soul Armor!”
The moment the armor appeared, Xuan Wu’s body managed to stabilize itself in mid-air.
“This armor looks very interesting! To think that just a wisp of divine intent could use this armor to block my most powerful engulfment spell technique!”
An Lin’s eyes lit up, but he had no intention of stopping. His soul power surged forth and erupted with even greater force.
The suction force emanating from within the black whale’s mouth became even more fearsome.
Crack crack crack…
The Xuan Wu Soul Armor was pulverized by the terrifying soul power in the end.
The massive Xuan Wu howled with anguish and hurled enraged abuse at An Lin before being swallowed by the black whale!
Lightning had struck thrice!
“Burp…” The soul power whale’s satisfied burp sounded once again.
An Lin looked around at the empty trial space with a smile on his face. “Was Senior Xuan Wu satisfied with my display?”
Of course, there was no one there to answer him.
Only the Spirit Maiden stood beside him with sheer and utter despair on her face. “Swallowed… Xuan Wu was swallowed as well…”
“Hmph! I already passed the trial, and it was still acting all high and mighty, asking me to show my skills like I’m some sort of circus performer. Does it really think it’s the big daddy here?” An Lin pursed his lips.
“You’re the daddy! You’re the big daddy here!” The Spirit Maiden clasped a hand over her heart with a heartbroken expression.
At this moment, An Lin’s mind had exploded again as an enormous amount of information and true intent surged into his mind like a river. His consciousness had clearly already digested Xuan Wu’s divine intent and absorbed the inheritance within.
An Lin received another Holy Beast core inheritance, the Xuan Wu Soul Armor! This was an indestructible suit of armor materialized from one’s consciousness and was one of Holy Beast Xuan Wu’s core defensive spell techniques!
At the same time, change suddenly struck in his sea of vital energy. Another egg suddenly surfaced from the bottom of his sea of vital energy, and it also seemed to be incubating life within.
This egg was the same size as the previous one and was green in color with intricate, black patterns on the surface, creating an extremely beautiful sight.
An Lin was dumbstruck.
He knew now that these eggs really did have something to do with the Holy Beasts!
So what would these eggs hatch to become?
An Lin was curious, but he was also feeling a little uneasy. Hopefully, nothing strange was going to hatch from them. Wait, no, two eggs appearing in one’s sea of vital energy was already strange enough.
“Let’s go, Spirit Maiden, onward to the Azure Dragon inheritance!” An Lin urged.
The Spirit Maiden descended beside him, and a beseeching expression appeared on her face. “An Lin, you’ve vented your rage already. Can you please leave something for the palace and spare the Azure Dragon’s life?”
“Er…” An Lin was rooted to the spot by surprise as he looked at the submissive woman before him.
So the Spirit Maiden had already been ravaged to such an extent? To think that she had such a meek and docile side.
An Lin thought about it for a moment and decided that always swallowing the Holy Beasts made him seem like a brainless foodie, which belied his image, so he nodded. “Alright, I won’t attack unless the Holy Beast Azure Dragon provokes me.”
The Spirit Maiden’s heart settled upon hearing this. She was going to quickly finish this trial then send this walking curse on his way!

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
