Chapter 1561: Will You Be My Friend
An Lin was completely flabbergasted.
Never would he have thought that Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu would still be able to pick up a large rock to kill him even in her completely powerless state.
Once again, just how much did she hate him?!
Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu had expended all of her remaining energy to hoist the rock into the air, and her tall and slender body was also falling toward An Lin, as if she was trying to add her weight to the rock.
An Lin looked on with a despairing expression as the rock expanded in his field of vision.
Was the mighty Heavenly Court War God going to be crushed by a mundane rock?
Upon seeing this, the Vermilion Bird Princess immediately flicked a finger through the air. A blast of energy was shot out, which instantly reduced the rock to dust. However, Lin Yu still fell upon An Lin as she was unable to arrest her downward momentum.
Thump.
“Ow…”
An Lin let loose a pained cry as Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu crashed into him.
Lin Yu lay on top of An Lin, and her forehead had struck An Lin’s chin, making him grimace with pain.
An Lin looked down to see Lin Yu raise her head to look up at him with a pair of eyes that were gradually becoming more and more dull and lifeless.
The two of them were well within reach of one another.
An Lin could clearly see the dirt and blood on Lin Yu’s gorgeous features.
He was very panicked. In such close quarters, Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu could do whatever she wanted to him!
He didn’t even have any energy to resist in his current state!
Lin Yu’s lips parted, and a disconsolate voice sounded.
“When you stare deep into the abyss…
“But the abyss ignores you…”
Lin Yu looked at An Lin, and her hands rested on his chest as she spoke in a soft voice.

An Lin’s lips twitched. What nonsense was she spouting this time?
Had Lin Yu gone insane?
A gentle smile appeared on Lin Yu’s face. “An Lin, will you be my friend?”
An Lin faltered again upon hearing this. What was the point of asking this question now?
However, he was painfully aware of his current situation, which was that Lin Yu’s body was on top of his and he was completely powerless. As such, he couldn’t afford to irk her, and he could only tell her what she wanted to hear.
“I… I will.”
Upon hearing this, Lin Yu’s expression froze on her face before tears welled up in her eyes, and she sobbed into An Lin’s chest. “That… that’s great… We still became friends in the end…
“I wanted to kill you and follow you to the afterlife, but who would have thought that we would be able to become friends even when we’re both still alive.”
A vibrant smile broke through Lin Yu’s sobs like a rainbow after the storm.
The dying light of dusk made her smile appear particularly beautiful and enchanting.
“An Lin, I’ll be waiting for you in death and eternal darkness.”
Her voice was like a light breeze, and An Lin was a little stunned by her captivating smile. He was then struck by the feeling that the weight on top of his body was slowly being lifted.
The woman sprawled on top of him gradually disintegrated into specks of white light before disappearing between heaven and earth.
Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu no longer existed.
No one doubted that Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu had died.
Everyone heaved a long sigh of relief upon seeing this.
An Lin lay silently on the ground with a confused expression.
Lin Yu’s last words were very strange.
She was going to wait for him in death and eternal darkness? Was she trying to curse him?
An Lin was very confused, but he didn’t know who to ask.

“An Lin!” The Vermilion Bird Princess descended from the sky before cradling An Lin in her arms. “Are you alright?”
An Lin heaved a faint sigh. “Aside from the fact that I’m severely depleted, my bones and tendons have all shattered, my body has been torn apart, and my soul almost left my body, there’s nothing really wrong with me.”
Vermilion Bird Princess: “…”
The Vermilion Bird Princess fed An Lin an immortal pill with a sympathetic expression before running over to Xu Xiaolan and also picking her up from the ground.
“This feels like a really inconvenient arrangement.” It was quite difficult for the petite Vermilion Bird Princess to hold Xiaolan under her left arm and An Lin under her right arm, but there wasn’t really any alternative.
She looked around at the battlefield around her, and her eyes lit up slightly at the sight of the Blood Soul Jade Coffin in the distance.
Thump thump!
An Lin and Xu Xiaolan were both tossed into the coffin.
A coffin lid was then placed on the coffin.
The Vermilion Bird Princess had glued the coffin lid back together using a spell technique, and she clapped her little hands together with a smile on her face. “The Blood Soul Jade Coffin can help you regenerate and can protect you at the same time. I repaired the coffin lid with a spell technique, so just made do with it for now!”
An Lin and Xu Xiaolan looked up at the smug Vermilion Bird Princess with speechless expressions.
The Vermilion Bird Princess hoisted the coffin up from the ground before carrying it on her back. “Let me protect you two this time!”
An Lin recalled that he had been carrying Xiaolan in the coffin before.
Now, both of them were being carried in the coffin by the Vermilion Bird Princess.
Life really was full of surprises. Before he knew it, he had ended up in the same coffin as his wife.
An Lin and Xu Xiaolan were crammed up in the same coffin with their bodies pressed up against one another. They looked into each other’s eyes, and they couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“Pfft… This feels really weird…” A warm, amused smile appeared on Xu Xiaolan’s gorgeous features.
An Lin was also quite amused. “With this coffin, we can be together both in life and in death.”
Xu Xiaolan slapped An Lin’s chest with a hint of indignation rippling in her eyes. “Don’t say that. We’re going to live for countless years together!”
An Lin looked at the indignant beauty snuggled up against his body, and he couldn’t help but give her a peck on the nose.
“You… Can’t you settle down now that we’re in a coffin?” Xu Xiaolan blushed like a shy little girl, striking a stark contrast with the proud Divine Phoenix Maiden who dominated battlefields.
An Lin chuckled as a profound sense of elation welled up in his heart.
This familiar woman, her familiar scent, her familiar temperature.
All of it gave him an overwhelming sense of security and satisfaction.
The Vermilion Bird Princess was not very pleased. “Oi, can you two stop flirting with one another and be a little more considerate toward my feelings? I understand why Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu hated you two so much now! Hmph!”
Xu Xiaolan was feeling a little awkward.
An Lin’s buoyant smile remained unaffected.
Elsewhere on the battlefield, Heavenly God Jordan had gotten an opportunity to catch his breath and recover from his injuries as the Celestial Thearch, Black Spirit Snake, and White Spirit Snake had run off to stop Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu.
It could be said that Heavenly Goddess Lin Yu’s sacrifice had given him the chance to launch a counterattack.
He was bathed in green divine light as an indifferent expression appeared on his face. “Lin Yu, let me avenge you.”

A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
