Chapter 1461: The Kingdom of the Nine States Seems to Have Changed
An Lin and the others dove into the crack.
An extremely powerful spatial rejection force enshrouded their bodies, trying to expel them with explosive force!
That power was extremely wild, and it was as if it was trying to annihilate their bodies!
Everyone unleashed defensive spell techniques to protect themselves. Thankfully, even the weakest among them were comparable to mighty figures at the Return to Void Pinnacle Stage, so they were able to resist this spatial backlash power.
Boundless energy quickly flashed past them. In reality, they were traversing through the power extremely fast, and they continued to gather speed until they were moving so fast that their bodies were beginning to twist and warp.
Whoosh!
An Lin was struck by a burst of dizziness.
In the next instant, the sound of something cracking erupted.
He fell straight onto the hard ground.
Bam!
“Ow!”
An Lin had only just landed when someone else landed on top of him.
A pair of soft, cool melons were mashed up against his back.
“Er, sorry…”
Shangguan Yi stood up with an apologetic expression as she climbed up from An Lin’s back.
Bam bam bam…
A few more thumps sounded.
Everyone had fallen onto the ground. Regardless of whether it was the Great Empress or the Celestial Thearch, all of them bashed massive craters into the ground. Thankfully, there were no bystanders around. Otherwise, they would’ve been thoroughly embarrassed.
“Where is this place?”
An Lin looked around to discover a vast expanse of inky blackness around him, as if he was in a secret chamber.
The Celestial Thearch slowly made his way toward one of the circular spell formations and picked up the tattered, bloodstained robes on the ground with a thunderously dark expression.
Everyone recalled those tormented cultivators in the image upon seeing this.
All of them had been driven insane by pain and tore through their own skin and flesh without even realizing it. Furthermore, that was only the beginning. Even their bones had disappeared now, and only a few sets of clothes remained, indicating just how horrific the torture they had endured must have been.

“These are all uniforms of the Heavenly Court enforcement teams,” the Celestial Thearch said in a dangerous, low voice.
An Lin’s expression also darkened upon hearing this.
It could be said that the Heavenly Court enforcement teams were colleagues of his, so he was also struck by a sense of irrepressible rage upon seeing this.
The Celestial Thearch scanned their surroundings with his divine sense, but he was unable to find anything of note. “Let’s go have a look outside.”
He opened the door of the secret chamber to discover a set of winding stairs leading up to another door.
Boom!
The door was blasted flying by An Lin.
Heaven and earth appeared before everyone’s eyes.
They discovered that they had been situated in an underground chamber to a sacrificial altar.
It was now night time, and the stars and the two moons hung in the sky.
There was the skull of a peculiar ferocious beast at the center of the circular sacrificial altar.
The skull was a mix of dragon and phoenix with a ferocious, violent look about it. There were rows of dense, crimson teeth in its mouth, which were still exuding extremely powerful deathly energy.
Green flames shimmered around the skull, creating an ominous, unsettling scene.
“This is the skull of an immortal beast at the Return to Void Pinnacle Stage. Are we in the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool at the moment?” the Great Empress analyzed as she narrowed her eyes.
“No, according to the location of the stars, we are at…” A perplexed expression appeared on Chen Chen’s face.
The Celestial Thearch finished his sentence with an extremely grave expression, “The Kingdom of the Nine States!”
Everyone stirred upon hearing this.
Cultivators from the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool were slaughtering Heavenly Court enforcement team members? And they were setting up a sacrificial altar… This was unheard of!
Did these beasts want to die?!
Were they not afraid of the Heavenly Court emperors hunting all of them down?
The Celestial Thearch suddenly turned toward a certain direction. “I can sense a peculiar divine light in the southeastern direction as well as extremely unfamiliar energy fluctuations unlike anything from any creatures I have seen.”

The Great Empress also turned toward that direction, and a reminiscent expression appeared on her face. “That is an important strategic location in the Wind Plain State, the Falling Dragon Abyss. The snow maiden army has reached there at the height of their powers, only to be forced back over ten thousand kilometers by the Heavenly Court emperors.”
Chen Chen pulled out a round disk with divine symbols carved all over it as an uncharacteristically grave expression appeared on his face. “There has been a change in this world, and it is an extremely drastic one. We should conceal our presence first and only reveal ourselves when we figure out what’s going on.”
Everyone nodded in response.
An Lin was still quite confused.
It had only been a hundred days, how were the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool so arrogant and reckless already?
What had happened during the hundred days that he was away?
Within the Wind Plain State of the Kingdom of the Nine States.
At the Falling Dragon Abyss.
A series of mountain ranges wound into the distance like a coiled dragon with no end in sight.
A green lake could be seen at the center of the mountain ranges, glowing like a dazzling jewel.
A pristine, white palace over ten thousand feet tall was situated beside the green lake, sending divine light shining for over fifty kilometers.
There were also over ten thousand buildings of different sizes standing before the massive palace, creating a marvelous spectacle to behold.
If a bystander was to see this, they would think that this was a holy paradise with many immortal inhabitants.
An Lin and the others appeared near the palace to survey the surrounding situation.
However, in stark contrast to the intricate, majestic palace, there were many vicious-looking humanoid beasts situated within it.
There were minotaurs and centaurs, as well as humans with pig heads, snake heads, lion heads…
All of them were most likely extremely massive mutant beasts, but all of them were content to adopt a much smaller humanoid form here.
There were close to a hundred thousand of these humanoid beasts at a glance. All of them were quite powerful with several thousand spirit beasts, several dozen soul beasts, and even two immortal beasts.
However, these humanoid beasts were not what An Lin and the others were looking at.
Instead, they were looking at those living beings whom even the humanoid beasts were extremely respectful toward. Those creatures were also humanoid in appearance with white hair, white skin, and golden eyes.
All of them wore white robes, and all of their movements were extremely graceful and elegant, as if they were noble creatures from birth, exuding a holy and regal aura.
Even though they weren’t looking at the humanoid beasts with disdainful expressions, they were appraising them with authority and benevolence in their eyes, as if they were looking at lower-level life forms.
There were only a few thousand of these peculiar living beings, and all of them exuded extremely unfamiliar energy fluctuations.
“What are these living beings?” An Lin wore a perplexed expression.
He had never seen these creatures even in any books before.
The Celestial Thearch had lived on the Tai Chu Continent for countless years, and even he was completely bewildered. “I have no idea what those living beings are either. They seem… to not be living beings from the Tai Chu Continent.”
Right at this moment, a massive white falcon with a wingspan of over ten thousand feet flew down from the sky with a golden cage on its back.
“Master Xi Fa, I’ve captured two hundred humans from the Kingdom of the Nine States United Army!”
The white falcon landed in front of the massive palace before bowing its head in an extremely respectful manner.
An Lin turned toward the golden cage to discover two hundred cultivators from the Heavenly Court executive department confined within it!

*Note: This story is on hiatus. I intend to pick it up again, but the mood of my life has shifted for the time being and I'm going to be working on a side project for a bit.* What would you give to live the life of your dreams? What kind of deal would you make? And when you were there, forced to stare your dreams in the eye and live them every day, how long would it be... before they broke you? Author's note: This is my first excursion outside the realm of villain fan fiction and I welcome feedback. The thing I've loved most about RRL so far is the potential for writing to be an interactive experience with excited readers. That said, also, the primary genre this is intended for is the blossoming realm of LitRPG. Namely, a slice of life tale in the manner of Grimgar or Re:Zero. So, likewise, I don't expect there will ever be a clear beginning-middle-and-end type of pattern to this story. It will likewise always be a bit more of a reactionary, exploratory novel into realms unknown - much like the 1800 travel-novel theme used by Jules Verne. Or, at least, that is my ambition.
