Chapter 1256: On the Brink of Death
Only ten seconds had elapsed, but Kui was already filled with admiration.
An Lin was still yelling with elation, as if the more lightning fell upon him, the more satisfied he felt.
An expression of confusion appeared on Kui’s face. Could it be that the lightning felt good if one was to stand under it without offering any resistance?
He decided to test out this theory. He relinquished his defenses as he stuck his head out.
Boom!
Countless bolts of terrifying lightning instantly struck his head, sending an excruciating tearing sensation running through his entire body.
“Moo… !” Kui yelled out in pain before hurtling back.
It was only for less than a second, yet there was already white smoke rising from a ghastly burn on his head.
It was the same old pain and the same old scent of burnt flesh and fur. This divine lightning was just as terrifying as ever!
“Holy f*ck! That An Lin really is insane! To think he’s being struck by this type of lightning without putting up any defenses…” Kui muttered with fear lingering in his heart as he stared at An Lin.
He really didn’t dare to do something crazy like this.
About a dozen seconds passed.
An Lin was slowly succumbing to unconsciousness as his body was being relentlessly ravaged by the destructive lightning around him.
One minute was far too long for him. He felt like he was really going to die here.
He suddenly wanted to call for help, for the Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird to pull him out of here. Becoming mentally handicapped was at least better than being dead!
However, he suddenly discovered that he was unable to yell out.
That’s right, he was too severely injured to even talk!
It’s over, it really is all over…
An Lin’s heart was filled with despair.
Just as he was about to fall into the abyss of eternal darkness…
Within his sea of vital energy, An Kirin suddenly opened his eyes and pointed a finger to the sky!
The lightning wreaking havoc in An Lin’s body began to quickly flow toward his sea of vital energy.
An Kirin looked up at the boundless divine lightning tumbling down like a tsunami, and he opened his mouth before engulfing the divine lightning, which transformed into a vortex that flowed relentlessly into An Kirin’s stomach!

An Lin felt as if a great burden had been lifted from his shoulders. All of the divine lightning bolts crashing down upon his body were absorbed directly into his sea of vital energy, and none of them was inflicting any more damage to his body.
This…
An Lin’s pupils contracted, and his first thought was to tell An Kirin to stop.
In reality, he had actually done that, but An Kirin refused to listen to him. He continued to swallow the divine lightning, as if he was eating the most delicious food in this world!
All of An Lin’s prior efforts had gone to waste! The system had told him to relinquish all defenses, but An Kirin was resisting in his stead…
Wait! An Lin’s eyes suddenly lit up.
The system mission required him to relinquish all defenses, and that was what he had done. An Kirin wasn’t him, he had a mind of his own, so An Lin could not be blamed for what he was doing!
An Kirin wasn’t An Lin!
An Lin decided to let An Kirin do whatever he wanted!
In the next few dozen seconds, An Kirin continued to swallow the bolts of Five-Colored Divine Lightning, and his chubby, golden body further expanded in size.
“Time’s up!” the Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird announced.
The system’s voice also sounded at this moment.
“Ding Dong! Congratulations, host, you have completed the mission to ‘relinquish all resistance and stand still within the Five-Colored Divine Lightning Core for a minute’!
“Now bestowing upon you the third stage Thunder Essence Cultivation Method!”
True intent and techniques began to flow into An Lin’s mind!
An Lin attained more enlightenment in the dao of lightning, and both his Lightning Amplification Technique and Lightning Manipulation Technique were elevated to higher levels. Not only that, but he had also received the Lightning Engulfment Technique.
He could now engulf all lightning within this world!
An Lin’s eyes lit up, and with his own strength, he made his way out of this lethal realm of lightning.
Kui stared blankly at the charcoal block of a man making his way toward them, and waves of shock surged through his heart.
He had done it! He had really done it!

My God, how was this possible?!
How could there be such a terrifying Soul Formation Stage cultivator in this world?!
The completely charred black An Lin grinned as white smoke wafted out from his mouth.
He made a peace sign before speaking in a hoarse yet elated voice, “Yeah! That was some tasty lightning!”
Kui’s mouth gaped open as his eyes widened.
An Lin’s eyes rolled over into the back of his head, and he fainted as he fell backward.
“An Lin!” The Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird instantly caught An Lin with one of her wings.
“What severe injuries!”
The Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird held the humanoid piece of charcoal that An Lin was before immediately unleashing a powerful healing technique.
“There’s not even a patch of unscathed skin on his entire body. How did he even survive this…” The Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird stared at An Lin with a pained expression that was intermingled with shock.
She thought about it for a moment before producing an immortal pill from her storage ring and placing it into An Lin’s mouth.
The powerful healing effect of the medicine combined with the Evergreen Technique, as well as the healing technique unleashed by the Dao Integration Stage super mighty figure Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird to quickly facilitate An Lin’s recovery.
“Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird, are you not going to enter the core region?” Kui asked.
“I’ll save An Lin first,” the Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird replied in a firm voice.
“An Lin’s life force is extremely powerful, and he is already in a stable condition. Just leave him to me,” Kui said.
The Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird didn’t even raise her head as she continued to stare down at An Lin. “I’m going to wait until he recovers.”
Kui was a little confused. Why was the divine vermilion bird so concerned about An Lin’s condition?
Had they met before? Wasn’t the divine phoenix supposed to be a haughty mythological beast that rarely ever left the Sun Tree? How could she be somehow related to a Soul Formation Stage human cultivator?
He had many questions, but he didn’t articulate any of them.
Two hours later.
All of An Lin’s charred skin had fallen off, revealing new skin underneath. However, his clothes were in charred ribbons and were not doing a very good job of covering up his body, which made the Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird a little embarrassed.
If she only had a bird form, then she wouldn’t be affected by this, but she did have a second fundamental form, which was a human form. As such, she was quite sensitive to the human body and was embarrassed to see An Lin in his almost nude state.
However, the Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird encouraged herself internally. An Lin saw her body when she was bathing, so why couldn’t she return the favor?
Besides, this wasn’t the first time she had seen An Lin naked.
Back when he kissed Yi Li, all of his clothes had been burned away and left nothing to the imagination.
There was already a precedent, so the second time should be easier…
Thus, the Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird refused to look away from An Lin, even as a blush appeared on her face.
Kui looked at the blushing Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird, then down at An Lin. He felt like this was quite a strange scene to behold. Could it be that there was some sort of unspeakable relationship between the two?
“Alright, An Lin is pretty much fully recovered.” The Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird gently laid An Lin down onto the ground.
She turned toward Kui. “I’ll leave Mr. An Lin with you. I’m going to make my way to the end of the Five-Colored Lightning Pit and secure the treasures there.”
“Leave him to me.” Kui nodded.
The Nine-Colored Divine Vermilion Bird took one last look at the unconscious An Lin before making her way toward the lightning pit.
Boundless terrifying divine lightning crashed down upon her body in a frenzy.
She pulled out a golden feather that remained suspended in the air before her.
The feather released a golden divine light, which eradicated all lightning in her path!
Don’t worry, An Lin, I’ll get that bead for you!
