Chapter 861: Making a Break
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
An Lin and the others sat on Xiao Ze’s back as they quickly flew toward the south.
“Why did Meng Zhi help us like that?” An Lin was puzzled.
“The Great Empress was also present, and we have the death of the snow maidens on our hands. Theoretically speaking, there is no reason for her to help us.” Xu Xiaolan’s brows knitted together in befuddlement.
Xiao Ze immediately provided an explanation.
“What’s so strange about that? Meng Zhi must have sh*t herself after seeing the projection of Master’s true form, so of course she was eager to send us on our way!”
An Lin’s chest constricted. With a serious expression, he corrected, “How many times have I told you? That is the power from within the ring!”
Xiao Ze nodded with an unconvinced expression. “Yes yes yes, Master, whatever you say is right. However, it makes sense that Meng Zhi was scared off you, even if it was by the power in your ring!”
An Lin: “…”
He had no response to this. Xiao Ze’s logic didn’t appear to have any flaws.
Speaking of which, just what was that black dragon in the ring? Its projection was already so monstrously terrifying; wouldn’t its true form defy the natural order?!
He recalled back to the Vermilion Bird Trial Grounds again, the place that had once been the vermilion bird’s cage, and he felt as if the plot had thickened.
The vermilion bird was a Holy Beast, which transcended beyond even mythological beasts! Who would be powerful enough to trap it?
Also, those four rings Yang Yuan recovered were definitely extraordinary objects. Could it be that they had something to do with the Holy Beast vermilion bird?
An Lin didn’t really care about things like this in the past, but he could no longer just disregard it. The black dragon was ridiculously powerful, and it could even swallow divine tools as well as deplete the strength in his entire body in the blink of an eye! This was not something to be ignored!
“I have to find a chance to ask Yang Yuan…” An Lin murmured to himself.

A thought suddenly occurred to him. The black dragon had emerged from his consciousness, so didn’t that mean that the divine tool it had engulfed counted as a divine tool obtained by him? Wouldn’t that mean that he had completed one of the conditions for progressing to the Return to Void Stage?
An Lin immediately brought up the system interface.
[Progression to the Return to Void Stage: Divine tool(s) obtained (0/1)]
Was that not the case? An Lin heaved a resigned sigh.
So the black dragon’s belongings didn’t equate to his belongings… What a disappointing notion.
If only there was a way to pull that divine tool from the black dragon’s mouth…
Wait!
An Lin suddenly turned his eyes toward the technique mission column to find that there had been a change!
[Intermediate Rank God of War Cannon Technique—God of War Heaven Blasting Cannon! Condition: Have ten supreme beings of Return to Void Stage or above like you, and have ten supreme beings of Return to Void Stage or above abhor you.]
There was a change in those who abhorred him!
[According to brainwaves and divine sense waves, as well as the system’s deductions, current progress stands at 5/10. Lin Junjun, Yan Hua, Emperor Ziwei, Liu Mingxuan, and Zhu Shan.]
An Lin’s expression faltered upon seeing this. What the f*ck?! Why was there one less?
He checked the list to discover that Meng Zhi’s name had been removed.
An Lin drew a sharp intake of breath. This f*cking mission progress could regress? And why the hell did Meng Zhi not abhor him anymore? Please keep abhorring, for God’s sake!
Speaking of which, what was the reason behind Meng Zhi’s change in attitude toward him?
An Lin was perplexed.
He didn’t know just how much trauma Meng Zhi had suffered after seeing the black dragon.
Her abhorrence of him had been completely overridden by fear and awe. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone out of her way to pave the way for their escape.
This was the first time An Lin had seen a mission regress. This was a really sh*tty feeling, as if he was a little further from his dreams.

It was a pity that the Return to Void Stage or above supreme being who abhorred him could only be living ones. Otherwise, a mighty figure like the Dark Sorcery Ghost, that had been driven to the point of insanity by him, would most definitely have contributed to the completion of the mission.
Goddammit! He had to find a way to piss off some more supreme beings.
An Lin was still getting carried away by his imagination when some trouble began to brew elsewhere in the Opposite Shore Realm.
A massive blue bat silently ended a voice transmission before spreading its wings, which obscured the entire sky while whipping up ferocious gale-force winds. “Demonic Blood Kirin, I’ve finally found you!”
It had just been contacted by the three immortal beasts at the Return to Void Pinnacle Stage and received the following message. “The Demonic Blood Kirin’s whereabouts have been discovered, now commencing ensnaring operation!”
In the southeastern region of the Opposite Shore Realm, Xiao Ze was riding over the clouds at high speed toward the Kingdom of the Nine States. They also knew that the Divine Bat Emperor had most likely already been notified of their whereabouts, and they could not afford to delay any longer. They had to enter the Kingdom of the Nine States as soon as possible.
“Are you still unable to contact people from the Kingdom of the Nine States?” Dongfang Zhuangshi asked.
An Lin shook his head. “The voice transmission talisman’s signal seems to have cut off by some sort of power at the border of the Opposite Shore Realm, so there’s no way for me to contact them.”
“Such a large scale isolation formation can’t be kept up for long, and it will be quite brittle as well. We still have a very good chance of breaking through to the other side,” Dongfang Zhuangshi consoled.
At this moment, Xu Xiaolan suddenly said, “Going south would take us to the Kingdom of the Nine States the quickest, but I feel like the Divine Bat Emperor would be expecting us to travel in that direction if our location has already been detected by them. How about we go east instead?”
An Lin’s eyes lit up. “That’s a great idea! We can enter the Holy Glacial Lands by going east and take them by surprise. Once we travel out of the Holy Glacial Lands, we can use spatial travel to return to the Kingdom of the Nine States.”
Everyone immediately came to a consensus and changed their directions.
…
Meanwhile, three immortal beasts with extremely fearsome auras were communicating with one another.
“We have surrounded them in a spell technique net of fifteen thousand kilometers in radius, which we are slowly drawing in.”
“At their speed, there is no way they can travel fifteen thousand kilometers in such a short time! They’re as good as dead!”
“The Emperor will be able to enter our net in about five minutes.”
“Five minutes? That’s enough for us to reduce the net to a radius of ten thousand kilometers. The Emperor will be able to wrap things up soon enough.”
“Hydra, you have to pay attention on your end. They are most likely going to cross through to the Kingdom of the Nine States through the south.”
“Hahaha… Don’t worry. If they really do dare to come here, I’ll make sure they stay here forever! Hiss hiss hiss!” Countless snake voices sounded in unison in a bewilderingly synchronized display.
“My side is the safest. After what happened to the Holy Glacial Lands, only an idiot would try to break through here,” a calm and collected voice said.
“Where you are…”
Boom boom boom!
The reply had only just sounded when it was abruptly cut off by the sound of explosive spell techniques.
“Hiss hiss! Crimson Sun Immortal Spirit, Wild Saber Immortal, what’s going on? Are they here? Where are they?” the Hydra asked in a panicked voice.
“I… Boom boom boom… F*ck!”
The Wild Saber Immortal’s voice sounded.
Terrifying energy explosions shook the entire spell technique net.
The Crimson Sun Immortal Spirit and the Hydra’s expressions both shifted at once.
The direction the Demonic Blood Kirin had chosen to flee toward was the direction of the Holy Glacial Lands!

The Elemental Arena
*A Rational-Adjacent litRPG Survival Series.* The time for the trials has come, pitting the mortal species of the galaxy against one another. By completing challenges, clearing dungeons, and defeating rival species, the players may forge themselves stronger and smarter. But only one species will be declared the winner. Earth has finally qualified... ...and participation is mandatory. A twenty-nine year old data entry clerk works together with a group of internationally diverse players to survive. Learning synergistic skills and using teamwork, can humanity achieve an upset? If they don't, their lives are forfeit. Author's note: Chapters will be anywhere from 6k to 10k in words, varying based on the plot beats instead of specific word counts. Realistic actions and teamwork will be important aspects of my story. I'm trying something a little different in writing a realism focused litRPG, hoping to capture the essence of how real people would react to their situation. People are complex and don't always get along. I don't recommend starting the series expecting wish fulfillment tropes just because it's tagged litRPG. It's a survival story with the game settings on Hell difficulty. The plot hasn't gotten there yet, but in the future of the series I want to recreate my nostalgia of forty person raids on Ragnaros, but with the high stakes of boss battles in Sword Art Online. I also love puzzle rooms so expect one of those each book. Warnings: mild PG-rated language, graphic violence and gore, and graphic medical content.
