Chapter 841: The Painstaking Master
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
The vermilion bird flames began to disappear from An Lin’s eyes.
His body swayed slightly as he was struck by a sense of overexertion. Surreptitiously using the flaming vermilion bird to instruct him on the side was quite taxing on his consciousness and was something he should not use often.
However, it did look like he had refined something pretty extraordinary…
An Lin held the pill in his hand, and even though he was no expert, he could feel from the power within the pill that this was no ordinary pill.
Hmm… The reactions of the spectators and competitors also worked to confirm this.
He had become the center of everyone’s attention. In this place, where many creatures towered over him, his seemingly tiny and insignificant body had suddenly grown infinitely in stature.
With the pill in his hand, An Lin turned to the black dragon, Grey. “Huh, it looks like this was a decent pill refinement? However… I’m not really familiar with the skill levels of peasants like all of you. Is this pill going to get me into the top five?”
Grey’s body trembled as he stared blankly at the pill in An Lin’s hand. “I… I…”
Thump!
His knees gave out from under him as he knelt onto the ground. “I was wrong! Please stop showing off, I beg of you!”
An Lin: “…”
Xu Xiaolan: “…”
All the competitors: “…”
It had to be said that An Lin’s pill had shocked all the spectators present.
Most of the competitors were in complete despair. They really didn’t know what they could do to win against an opponent who was able to elevate his spirit pill to a higher grade!
This was like a test with 100 as full marks, only for An Lin to go and get f*cking 101!
Soon, time was up for the second round of the competition.
Among the ninety competitors, there were seven that successfully refined fourth-grade spirit pills. Wait, no! There were only six as An Lin’s was a third-grade spirit pill…
An elder pulled out a piece of paper before making an announcement. “Next, I’ll be announcing the prodigy pill refinement masters that have taken out the top five spots. Coming in at number one is An Lin!”

Cheers erupted again throughout the entire spectator stands. This number spot was undisputed.
Among all the living beings present, Uncle Dongfang simply did not know what expression he should put on to face something like this.
He could accept Xu Xiaolan being more bad*ss than he was, but why was it that An Lin, who looked like a pill refinement noob, was also more bad*ss than he was? Was there something wrong with this world?
Xiao Ze was even more dumbstruck. Was Master’s pill refinement skills always this bad*ss? To think that he had never known this about Master!
His mind was then carried down a different train of thought as he recalled that black dragon, which stood proudly among the stars.
Could it be… That Master’s power is beginning to awaken!?
“Second place, Xu Xiaolan!”
Another burst of cheers erupted across the spectator stands. Xu Xiaolan had proven herself with her ability.
Her initial target was to make it into the top five, so this was quite a good result.
The sh*t-talking trio, consisting of Rika, the Black Sword Lord, and Ban Yue, was starting to get nervous. There were three berths left…
“Third place, Fanny!”
The elder continued.
All the spectators instantly fell silent, and the competitors’ eyes widened in shock.
“Fanny? Which Fanny is this?”
“It’s quite a familiar name.”
“Gasp… It’s not the Pill Sage’s daughter, Fanny, is it?”
At this moment, the black-robed woman raised her head and removed the robe.
Whoosh!
A flawless woman who appeared as if she had been constructed from golden crystals was revealed to everyone.
She was floating slightly above the ground, and she wore a white tutu dress that revealed her long, golden legs. Her hair was like a golden waterfall that spilled down her back and all the way down to her feet.
Her features were flawlessly intricate, and her eyes were pure and bright. She was like the beautiful girl next door, but the aura radiating from her body seemed to elevate her above all the other living beings present.
All the spectators and competitors were staring blankly at this woman.
“Holy f*ck! It really is that Fanny! The Pill Sage’s daughter, Fanny!”

“Didn’t she go to further her education in the Holy Palace of Life? Why is she here?”
“Maybe… she graduated?”
“Gasp… She’s only twenty-five this year! If she really has graduated, then wouldn’t that make her the youngest ever graduate from the Holy Palace of Life?”
“My God, is she really such an exceptional talent?!”
Everyone stared at the woman under the limelight with admiration and reverence etched onto their faces.
The Holy Palace of Life was the top school for the younger generation within the Opposite Shore Realm. It was similar to The United University of Cultivation in the Heavenly Court, except they required their students to reach a certain level of ability before allowing them to graduate.
Some prodigies couldn’t even graduate after several hundred years.
However, Fanny had graduated at just twenty-five years of age. That was simply extraordinary!
There was no hint of triumph on Fanny’s face as she turned toward An Lin before speaking in an ethereal voice.
“An Lin? Don’t get too full of yourself! I haven’t even displayed the full extent of my abilities yet! In this final segment, I’m going to win back the honor that belongs to me!”
An Lin blinked. He couldn’t shake the feeling that this shiny golden woman looked a lot like the Dragon Princess that Xiao Ze had constructed from the golden Realm Essence Crystals.
He turned an involuntary glance toward Xiao Ze.
Sure enough, Xiao Ze had his attention focused entirely on Fanny with an expression of fanatical admiration on his face. This was probably what love at first sight was…
As Xiao Ze’s Master, a certain emotion began to well up in his heart.
An Lin turned to Fanny with a smile. “Very good. Fanny, is that right? Since you’re so confident, why don’t we make a bet?”
Fanny responded with a cautious expression, “What bet?”
“If I become the final champion, you have to do one thing for me. Conversely, if you become the champion, I’ll agree to do one thing for you.” An Lin smiled.
“Oh? Interesting…” Fanny’s eyes suddenly began to glow with burning battle intent. An exceptional prodigy like her couldn’t back down at a time like this!
“Alright! I accept your bet!” Fanny nodded and said, “But we have to ensure that the thing one of us has to do for the other has to be within our abilities and not violate morals and ethics!”
An Lin nodded with a smile. “Sure. Let’s swear dao heart vows first!”
Xu Xiaolan stood off to the sidelines and was a little confused at what An Lin was doing.
What was he planning now? He had to be careful not to bite off more than he could chew!
After swearing the vows, An Lin turned to Xiao Ze and sighed with emotion.
Little Xiao… Master doesn’t have anything to give you, and Master feels extremely guilty as a result.
How about I give you a big present this time in the form of a wife?
The top three had been confirmed.
Rika, the Black Sword Lord, and Ban Yue were becoming super nervous.
“Fourth place, Ban Yue!”
“Fifth place, Julia!”
The elder continued to announce.
Ban Yue finally heaved a sigh of relief before turning to the two people beside her with a sympathetic expression.
Boom!
Rika and the Black Sword Lord felt as if they had been struck by bolts of lightning as they stood rooted to the spot.
“How… How could this be? I was aiming to become the champion, but I didn’t even make it into the top five?” Rika’s eyes completely dimmed from disconsolation.
This was such a massive disparity. She felt like she had sustained a lethal blow to her soul, and her blue liquid body suddenly completely dimmed, as if it had lost all of its lusters.
The Black Sword Lord wailed in anguish. “Ah… I don’t want to live! I’m going to commit seppuku!1”
He really did pull out a black longsword from behind him as he spoke, which he then abruptly stabbed toward his own stomach.
Splat!
Blood gushed forth.
The Black Sword Lord yelled with pain and anguish.
As a pill refinement master, he instinctively pulled out a few regenerative spirit pills before swallowing them to heal his injuries.
An Lin: “…”
Was this guy f*cking retarded?!

Making a difference
Harry Potter FanFiction: Hannah Longbottom liked to watch the people who entered the Wizarding World via the small, walled courtyard behind the Leaky Cauldron for a reason: During her not so long life, she had learned about three different boys who had entered the Wizarding World alone, leaving behind a life so horrible she could barely imagine. One of them, who became a friend of hers, had gone through great hardships to become a hero, one of the greatest wizards the Wizarding World had ever seen. One of them, who had been her teacher, had become cold and bitter, and no one had ever recognized what amazing talents he could have offered, until it had been too late. One of them, the monster she had helped to fight during the Battle of Hogwarts, had become the most dreaded, most dangerous, and most deadly man Great Britain had ever seen, and yet it could have all been different, if someone had just tried to make that difference early enough in that life, if he had not boarded the train to Hogwarts all alone. Already posted at Devianart and AO3, I've included a link to RoyalRoad on my profiles there.
