Chapter 610: Xing Tian’s Defeat
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
All the spectating students suddenly fell deathly silent.
All of them were staring up the screen with bated breath; some students even began to sweat in their palms.
Bai Zhong was also staring intently at the battle taking place on the ninety-eighth level.
Under everyone’s unwavering gazes, a figure began to move!
All the students were disappointed to find that the figure who had stood up was Xing Tian!
However, they weren’t disappointed for long because another figure subsequently stood up.
Many of the students couldn’t help but let loose cries of alarm upon seeing this.
An Lin had also stood up!
Xing Tian wiped the blood from the corners of his lips before turning his eyes on An Lin’s chest. There was a hole in his clothes, but his body remained completely unscathed!
He was at a bit of loss for what to do. “How did that not penetrate?”
“Heh, the body of the War God is not so easily broken.” A smug smile appeared on An Lin’s face as he said, “It’s my turn now!”
The golden lotus insignia flashed on his forehead again as he charged toward Xing Tian before launching another golden fist.
F*ck, he’s so fast!
Xing Tian had no time to dodge or defend himself before he was knocked to the ground by An Lin’s fist.
It wasn’t actually the case that An Lin was all that fast. It was more so the case that Xing Tian’s energy had been completely depleted, and he was no longer capable of defending himself or launching a counterattack.
After Xing Tian was knocked to the ground, An Lin continued to press his advantage by straddling onto his body in order to restrict his movement before raining his fists down onto his face.
Boom boom boom…
A series of fearsome shockwaves burst forth, accompanied by Xing Tian’s wails of anguish.
This was an extremely brutal one-sided beating now!
Outside the Immortal Spirit Tower, everyone stared up at the image on the screen, unable to come to terms with what they were seeing.
“Xing Tian had clearly stood up first, but why is he the one being pummelled now?”
“God An’s defense is crazy! Look at his body; there’s not even a single scratch on him!”
“Not only that, but his stamina is also astounding. To be able to unleash such powerful attacks at this stage of the battle is extremely impressive.”
“I think we can give An Lin another title, how about ‘Xuan Wu The Enlightened’?”
“I think Enlightened Turtle is better! It’s easier to comprehend…”

“Am I the only one whose heart aches for Xing Tian? His face used to be so handsome, but it looks like a pig’s head now!”
“Sigh… War God Xing Tian is indeed extremely powerful; it’s just a pity that he encountered a freak.”
…
The Celestial Thearch massaged his brows as he surveyed the battle from afar, and he couldn’t help but avert his gaze from the scene of blatant brutality taking place before his eyes.
Xing Tian was once a high and mighty War God, but he was now being beaten into dust like this by An Lin.
A series of ferocious fists landed like torrential rain on Xing Tian’s head, and he knew in his heart that he had lost.
He had no strength left to retaliate, nor even any strength left to stand up. He was simply far too tired…
He suddenly recalled the battle against the Ant Tribe, which had led to his death, and he discovered that he was dying from exhaustion, much like in that final battle of his life… Was this all meant to be…
Boom!
Amid an explosion of golden light, Xing Tian’s divine-intent body finally gave out as it slowly began to dissipate.
An Lin ceased his attacks as he looked down with an apologetic expression at the man he was straddling. “Sorry for the offense, Senior Xing Tian…”
Xing Tian was just about to speak when a smug smile appeared on An Lin’s face. “But I won this battle in the end. Let’s see you flex now!”
Xing Tian: “…”
Xing Tian swallowed the words he was about to utter.
He had initially wanted to say that An Lin had only defeated a wisp of his divine intent, so there was nothing for him to be happy about.
However, he didn’t say that in the end.
A loss was a loss. War God Xing Tian had never been defeated, but it didn’t mean that he couldn’t accept defeat.
“You did indeed win. Your attitude is the best among anyone I have ever seen.”
Xing Tian admitted with a begrudging smile.
An Lin felt like he needed to return the compliment. “Heh… you’re not bad either. You should be proud that you were able to push me this far!”
Xing Tian: “???”
He suddenly wanted to beat the crap out of An Lin!
It was just a pity that he no longer had the strength to do so.
“You may have defeated me, but you’re still not the War God yet, so don’t get complacent! If you want to be the War God of the Heavenly Court, you’ll have to defeat the incumbent War God, True Lord Erlang, so you still have a long way to go yet!” Xing Tian felt like it was time to bring him down a notch, lest he became too arrogant.

To his surprise, An Lin replied with a nonchalant smile, “Why would I battle True Lord Erlang for the title of War God? I AM a War God!”
Xing Tian: “I’ve never seen such a shameless person.”
An Lin heaved a forlorn sigh. “Why won’t you believe me? Although come to think of it, it’s fair enough that you don’t. The body of the War God is a name that is a little too direct. Sigh, I’ll have to think of a new name in the future.”
Xing Tian couldn’t understand what An Lin was mumbling to himself about.
“Oh right, Senior Xing Tian, what inheritance are you going to give me?” An Lin asked with anticipation in his eyes.
Xing Tian faltered slightly upon hearing this.
Inheritance…
He had never thought about this before as he didn’t think he would ever lose…
An Lin’s face immediately fell at the sight of Xing Tian’s confused expression. “You’re not planning to not give me one, are you? Were you not satisfied with that battle?”
“The battle was so intense already, and you’re still not satisfied? What else do you want me to do?” An Lin’s voice raised a few octaves as he spoke.
He suddenly recalled a certain mighty figure’s unreasonable excuse.
Not satisfied?
Xing Tian’s lips twitched as he looked at An Lin. What the hell is going on in that head of his?
It was obvious that he was thoroughly satisfied! He had depleted every last shred of energy within his body, so how could he not be satisfied?
Xing Tian cleared his throat before speaking, “Alright, how about this? There is only a limited amount of energy within my divine intent, so I can only impart upon you a certain spell technique from my dao of slaughter or my dao of abyss. Which one would you like?”
An Lin paused to think for a moment. The Dao of slaughter didn’t fit his image as a graceful, kind-hearted gentleman, so he quickly came to a decision. “I’ll go with the dao of abyss!”
Xing Tian nodded. “Alright, seeing as your aptitude is so exceptional, I won’t hide anything from you. You can pick any one of the three most powerful spell techniques in my dao of abyss. The Realm of Abyssal Terror can influence a living being’s emotions, drawing them into an abyss of fear, so this is a psychological attack; Abyssal Gravity can greatly enhance the gravitational force within a certain area, thereby restricting all living beings within that area; Abyssal Spear is an extremely powerful attack. You’ve experienced all three techniques for yourself, so that should help you make a decision.”
An Lin wanted all three of them!
Didn’t he say that he wasn’t going to hide anything? So why couldn’t he give him all three at once… An Lin was a little disgruntled, but he still considered his options carefully.
The Realm of Abyssal Terror seemed like a technique that was useful for flexing and striking fear into the hearts of weaker opponents, which was quite similar to the Divine Might Technique, so it would be a little redundant…
Next was the Abyssal Gravity Technique. This technique could be very useful for restricting the mobility of his opponents in battle.
As for the Abyssal Spear Technique, An Lin wasn’t really lacking in powerful offensive spell techniques.
“I’ll take the Abyssal Gravity Technique,” An Lin gave his answer after a momentary pause.
“Alright.” Xing Tian pressed a finger to An Lin’s glabella as the inheritance of the Abyssal Gravity Technique flowed like a stream of water into An Lin’s mind.
An Lin was ecstatic upon receiving this inheritance.
Xing Tian’s power was greatly restricted, so he wasn’t able to unleash the true power of the Abyssal Gravity Technique, but if he were to cultivate this technique to the maximum, he could even create an all-engulfing black hole!
What a useful spell technique…
An Lin smacked his lips with contentment.
Xing Tian was quite pleased with himself upon seeing An Lin’s expression. “Do you see how powerful my dao of abyss is now?”
An Lin nodded as he joined his hands in a grateful salute. “Thank you for your inheritance, Senior. I will remember your kindness for the rest of my life!”
“Alright, no need to be so respectful. Just work hard and pull that little b*stard Yang Jian from his berth as the Heavenly Court War God as soon as possible!” Xing Tian waved his hands as he spoke.
An Lin faltered slightly upon hearing this. “Um… why?”
“That way, it’ll sound better for me. Otherwise, the news is going to spread of my defeat to a kid who isn’t the War God,” Xing Tian replied truthfully.
An Lin blinked before speaking with a serious expression, “But Senior, I really am a War God!”
“…” Xing Tian did not understand why An Lin felt the need to flex to him even now.
His body slowly began to dissipate before merging into the Immortal Spirit Tower again.
Thus, their battle concluded with the defeat of Xing Tian.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
