Chapter 597: I’ll Make You Happy
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
Outside the Immortal Spirit Tower, all the students erupted into chatter again upon hearing An Lin’s decision to challenge level ninety-eight.
“My God, An Lin chose level ninety-eight? How many years has it been since something like this happened in the university?”
“Wang Xuanzhan had only made it past the ninety-third level, then fell at the ninety-fourth level back when he made his last attempt, but An Lin is going straight to level ninety-eight?”
“Hehe, God An can defeat Senior Student Wang with one finger alone. Level ninety-eight will be no problem for him at all!”
“This is a once-in-a-millennium battle. If he wins, he’ll rewrite the school’s history!”
“To be able to witness such a historical event would be another great memory we can look back on when we think back to our time at the school.”
Many of the students were getting quite excited as they looked up at the image of An Lin on the screen with scorching gazes.
Of course, there were also some students spectating the other battles.
For example, a group of female students had their eyes trained firmly on Xuanyuan Cheng even though he wasn’t engaged in a battle.
That’s right, he wasn’t engaged in a battle. Instead, he was chatting…
A beautiful female Celestial Immortal holding a crimson whip stared speechlessly at the man before her.
She heaved an exhausted sigh. “Are you done talking?”
Xuanyuan Cheng shook his head. “No. Senior Shu Yu, can’t you reveal some of the inner workings of this Immortal Spirit Tower to me? It must be very painful for you to be in this state.”
Shu Yu’s face convulsed slightly. “No. I’m very happy here.”
“How could you be happy here? A wisp of divine intent that has been imbued with the true intent of Dao is equivalent to a sentient being. So the divine intent here is akin to your physical self!” Xuanyuan Cheng took a deep breath. With a determined expression on his face, he said, “I have cultivated in the Dao of Myriad Spirit Taichi, so you can’t fool me. Senior, are you really happy to be trapped in a tower for countless years like this?”

“I am happy to be able to contribute to the Heavenly Court in any way,” Shu Yu replied.
“No, you’re not happy. I can see the sadness in your eyes,” Xuanyuan Cheng retorted.
Shu Yu: “… I really am happy.”
“You’re really not happy!” Xuanyuan Cheng argued with a serious expression.
Shu Yu: “…”
If it wasn’t for the fact that this student was quite handsome and was saying all this for her own good, Shu Yu would have attacked him long ago.
“So what do you want to do?” Shu Yu asked with a resigned expression.
“I am relatively knowledgeable in the Dao of myriad spirits, so I can assist you to the afterlife, but I will need your cooperation to do so,” Xuanyuan Cheng replied with a sincere expression.
Shu Yu’s face darkened. “So you’re going to kill me?”
Xuanyuan Cheng shook his head. “No. I only want to give you the release you deserve by entering the afterlife to be reborn again. You’re different from all the other mighty figures on the eightieth level and below. If your consciousness is here, then you won’t be able to truly enter the cycle of reincarnation.”
Shu Yu rolled her eyes. “So you’re going to f*cking kill me!”
A warm smile appeared on Xuanyuan Cheng’s face. “Don’t you yearn for a new life? To be able to experience the beauty of the world again?”
The light of the sun shone through the window onto Xuanyuan Cheng’s absurdly handsome face, but his smile was even warmer than the sun. It even sent the onlookers into involuntary trances.
It was as if all the aforementioned beauty of the world was condensed into this one smile.
Shu Yu was dumbstruck as she stared at the man before her. She was seemingly in a trance.
She had once thought that this guy was a retard.
However, after seeing such a warm, genuine smile, her impression of him had been flipped on its head…

Outside the Immortal Spirit Tower, some die-hard Xuanyuan Cheng fangirls were screeching with delight.
“But… I swore a vow to remain here in the Immortal Spirit Tower as a divine-intent warrior…” Shu Yu felt like her brain was a little muddled.
“So what? I can still give you the release you desire as long as you cooperate with me.”
Xuanyuan Cheng wore a warm, genuine smile as he continued, “I still think that it’s an unreasonable thing to trap the divine intents of past immortals here. It’s quite beneficial to the students of the Heavenly Court, but there are many other better ways to achieve the same results. What gives us the right to better ourselves at the expense of the revered Celestial Immortals?”
Shu Yu listened to his words with a blank expression, and she couldn’t sense a single shred of hypocrisy from his words or his expression.
She knew that this man really had her best interest in mind.
“I’m still very weak, but I want to try my best to help every person find the happiness that they deserve. I won’t force my concept of happiness upon you, but I will do everything I can to help you find your happiness. This is perhaps my way of respecting all beings,” Xuanyuan Cheng voiced his thoughts, and each and every word was like a hammer blow to Shu Yu’s heart.
For all these years, all she had done was to battle those who came in.
Aside from battling, she would stare at the sky from the window of the eighty-second level.
The outside world was something that she could see but never reach.
Perhaps she would continue like this, battling like a machine, until her consciousness gave out and detached itself from this wisp of divine intent…
Was she happy? She felt a strong sense of responsibility to the Heavenly Court.
But was she happy?
The man standing before her didn’t want to battle her. Instead, he was here to tell her that she was not happy!
The endless, predictable cycle of battles seemed to have been shattered by this man.
Xuanyuan Cheng was like a ray of sunlight lighting up her grey world and allowing her to see the colors for the first time in countless years.
“Do you yearn for freedom? Do you want a fresh new start? If you’re sick of all this, if you want to be released, I can help you.” Xuanyuan Cheng extended a hand to her, and Shu Yu found the courage within her heart when she looked at his hand.
Tears welled up in Shu Yu’s eyes as she stared at the man standing before her.
Was this what it felt like to be cared for by someone? How long had it been seen she last felt this…
She had died a long time ago, but she suddenly felt as if she were alive again.
A bright and vibrant smile appeared on Shu Yu’s face, lighting up her enchanting features.
“Xuanyuan Cheng, you’re an interesting man. If I were still alive, I would probably pursue you as my Dao partner,” Shu Yu said in a soft voice, which wafted through the air like a warm spring breeze.
Xuanyuan Cheng was suddenly at a loss for what to do as his hand froze in mid-air.
Was that supposed to be a confession? How had things progressed in this direction?
Right at this moment, Shu Yu extended her hand toward Xuanyuan Cheng and gripped tightly onto his hand.
She felt a sense of warmth from Xuanyuan Cheng. This was what it felt like to have someone who she could rely on.
Shu Yu took a deep breath, and a beautiful smile blossomed on her face. “Help me, Xuanyuan Cheng. I want a new beginning!”

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
