Chapter 371: The Hundred-Beast Demon of the Purple Star Bloodline
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
An Lin initially thought that the tunnel had been intentionally colored crimson in order to create a sense of suspense and fear. However, upon closer inspection, he discovered that the crimson liquid smeared along the tunnel really was blood.
“This blood must have been smeared on from a long time ago, but it still looks so fresh and vibrant. Who would have thought that the research institute would have such good freshness-preservation technology.” An Lin nodded his head with approval.
Da Bai followed along behind An Lin and sniffed at the air around him while looking ahead with a cautious gaze. He could detect an extremely peculiar scent in the air. It wasn’t blood, but instead, it was something that triggered an involuntary reaction of disgust within him.
Soon, they came to another cavernous chamber.
The entire chamber was empty aside from a huge cylindrical glass tank suspended in the air at the center of the room.
Within the glass tank was a monster with green scales running all over its whole body, a pair of red bony wings on its back, and it had the head of a dragon. It was suspended with its eyes closed in a pool of red liquid, and it looked as if it was in a deep slumber.
“Welcome to the Trial of Sins. The Hundred-Beast Demon within the glass tank is one of the failed experimental subjects of the research institute. It’s a creation with merged bloodlines of over a hundred types of mutant beasts. It’s a creature at the pinnacle of bloodline life-form creation, but it possesses a fatal flaw, in that it no longer has any sanity and has become a machine capable of only murder and battle.”
“Defeat the Hundred-Beast Demon to pass this trial. According to prior statistics from past trial-takers, the probability of survival from this trial is zero. Successful completion of the trial grants you the opportunity to pick any inheritance of your preference. Do you accept this trial?”
Bai Ling’s voice sounded within the chamber, and she gave a very specific introduction of the trial this time.
An Lin was actually quite relieved to hear that this was a battle-themed trial.
He had never been scared of anyone in a battle before.

“Let the trial begin!”
An Lin’s storage ring flashed, and the Evil-Slaying Sword appeared in his hand.
The glass tank opened, and the red liquid within gushed forth onto the ground.
The Hundred-Beast Demon fell to the ground with a thump. Its eyes were still closed, and it appeared to still be sleeping.
An Lin: “…”
Da Bai: “…”
“Big Brother An, should we wake it up first? Woof!” Da Bai asked.
A sinister smile appeared on An Lin’s face. “Of course we should wake it up.”
Lightning began to revolve around his left hand as he spoke, and his right hand began to glow with a dazzling golden light at the same time.
“Mountain Quaking Lightning Fist!”
A huge golden fist projection imbued with devastating power flew toward the Hundred-Beast Demon, which was still lying on the ground.
A powerful technique that required charging before usage was perfect for scenarios like this!
Boom!
Golden lightning exploded forth, sending blasts of energy flying all around the chamber. An Lin and Da Bai were also forced into retreat by the powerful explosion. They were sure that the Hundred-Beast Demon would be on the brink of death, if not already dead from that attack.
An Lin had just activated his Divine Inspection technique to assess the situation when a shadowy figure violently broke through the force of the explosion and pounced toward An Lin.
So fast!
An Lin’s hair stood up on end. The Hundred-Beast Demon was simply too fast! It was to the extent that An Lin didn’t have time to formulate a defense even though he could see where the Hundred-Beast Demon was intending to strike through the use of his Divine Inspection technique!
Wind Sword!
His Evil-Slaying Sword instantly accelerated and slashed through the air in a streak of white light before colliding with the green claws of An Lin’s assailant.
Boom!
The collision swept up gale-force winds around them and created a massive crater in the ground.
An Lin could feel an indescribable power coming from the Hundred-Beast Demon—power that exceeded even his own.
He finally got a clear view of the Hundred-Beast Demon for the first time.
The Hundred-Beast Demon didn’t appear to be even slightly injured after copping a Mountain Quaking Lightning Fist. It had a pair of purple eyes which glinted with a vicious glow, and its crimson, bony wings squirmed in an extremely unsettling display.

“Great Lion’s Roar.”
A sinister voice sounded from the Hundred-Beast Demon’s mouth.
“Roar!”
A dark soundwave suddenly burst forth from its green palms, and it emitted an extremely powerful lion’s roar which instantly knocked An Lin flying back into the air.
The Hundred-Beast Demon was just about to close in on An Lin when a series of blue saber projections suddenly flew at him from the distance.
“Serpent Shadow Step.”
The Hundred-Beast Demon halted in its pursuit of An Lin and adopted a peculiar yet extremely agile movement technique. Its body transformed into a refractive afterimage which instantly evaded the powerful saber projections, and its physical body instantly appeared right in front of Da Bai.
“Splitting Bat Palm!”
Green palm projections instantly began to converge on Da Bai, startling him into retreat as his body became swept up by a gust of wind. However, the palm projections somehow twisted the very air itself, and their power transcended through space before crashing heavily into Da Bai’s body.
Da Bai flew back like a rag doll, and his body crashed heavily into the metallic wall.
Right at this moment, heaven and earth were suddenly shrouded in darkness, and the sound of a sword whistling through the air erupted in the darkness.
An Lin used the Shadow Tiger technique from his Six Strikes of The War God, and the blade of his Evil-Slaying Sword instantly fell upon the Hundred-Beast Demon’s neck. The silent sword projection even managed to slash a huge rift on the metal floor beneath him.
His pupils contracted drastically as waves of shock crashed through his heart at the sight of the Hundred-Beast Demon’s neck.
The Evil-Slaying Sword was unable to cut even half an inch into the Hundred-Beast Demon’s neck.
How could this be…
No, wait!
An Lin realized upon closer inspection that there was a tiny sliver of space between the blade of the Evil-Slaying Sword and the green scales of the Hundred-Beast Demon. That small sliver of space was like an impenetrable steel board which completely stopped his Evil-Slaying Sword in its tracks.
“Dragon Cyclone!”
The Hundred-Beast Demon turned to An Lin with a violent, ruthless smirk on its face, revealing a row of razor-sharp shark teeth.
Boom!
A green cyclone burst forth from its body which transformed into countless sharp blades. These blades tore through the metal ground below and swept toward An Lin’s body.
Blood exploded forth under the ravaging attacks of the sharp blades, and An Lin made a frantic retreat as Wings of Wind materialized on his back. He was suddenly beginning to understand.
He could understand why the Hundred-Beast Demon was completely unharmed from copping a Mountain Quaking Lightning Fist as well as why the Evil-Slaying Sword was unable to even make contact with the skin on its neck…
This was all due to a spatial barrier!
Just like the Gundams suspended in the hall outside, the Hundred-Beast Demon also had a spatial barrier running all along its body, thereby granting it immunity to all attacks and invincibility!
If he wanted to deal any damage to the Hundred-Beast Demon, he would have to break through its spatial barrier first.
Generally speaking, only Return to Void Stage mighty figures were capable of breaking through spatial barriers…
How was he supposed to fight then? What the f*ck was the point of fighting!
His enemy possessed a vast array of powerful techniques and a suit of spatial armor which could only be cracked by a Return to Void Stage mighty figure; it was already invincible! An Lin wouldn’t be able to defeat it even if he used the Origin Energy of the Netherworld!
The Hundred-Beast Demon charged toward An Lin again with crimson flames gathered in its palms.
An Lin slashed out a black sword projection, but it was once again evaded by the Hundred-Beast Demon’s agile movement techniques.
A sense of confusion flashed through An Lin’s heart. The Hundred-Beast Demon was indestructible anyway, why would it even bother dodging?
Was this just a survival instinct?
Or could it be that the spatial barrier armor required energy expenditure to maintain?
“Phoenix Flame Mantra!”
It pressed its palms toward An Lin, where the crimson flames had already converged to become an extremely dazzling ball of fire. The ball of fire then exploded like a hand grenade, sending a powerful blast of energy fanning out around them.
Boom!
The entire chamber trembled in that instant.
The furious crimson flames engulfed everything and transformed the chamber into a sea of flames.

Trailblazer
The story of a man who accidentally wrote another world into existence. Everyone breaks away from their mundane daily life in one way or another. Our protagonist, an unfortunate consequence of circumstance, being no different, often escaped the harsh reality of life by writing stories of an alternate world of swords and magic. Though he recognized the difference between reality and fantasy, he could've never imagined what would happen, when the line between the two blurred as lightning struck down from the skies, and his escapism fantasy became all too real... After he came to, he would soon learn that things in the other world aren't quite as he remembered them to be. The world he wrote of had become but a shadow of its former self. Albeit hesitant at first, he sets off on a quest to find out the secrets behind the Trails, yet even then, he can't help but wonder... Can he really bring his world back to its old glory? —————————— I have never written a story before in my life and now I'm doing so in a language I don't natively speak. Groundbreaking quality is probably not something to be expected, but I do my best to keep things readable. With the necessities out of the way, both constructive criticism and other suggestions are very much welcome, and I'll do my best to take them into account when writing future chapters.

On that same note. If you leave a 5-star rating let me know what you like about the story. Between the two ill know what works and what doesn't. Mistwalker Xyn and the Cult of Eldritch Evil
[Participant in the 2020 Royal Road Writathon Challenge] Having just graduated to adulthood, Xyn is salty about how his lackluster Awakening has resulted in his current derided status within his clan and tribe, particularly when compared to the successes of his litter-siblings. The revelation of the truth about his heritage sets in motion events leading to him traveling to human lands on a secret mission for his tribe. Cringeworthy moments and awkwardness will ensue as young Xyn (an anthropomorphic tiger-kin), raised in the sheltered life of a martial artist, navigates human society with a trusty sidekick or two picked up along the way and might just save his corner of the world while he's at it. Gore will be minimally present as needed to tell a fantasy martial arts tale. There won't be any sexual content, but mild/vague suggestive themes may occur occasionally due to the nature of Xyn's mission and his insecurities. Story should be teen appropriate. Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
