Chapter 1193: Drugging Him
She sent the note out. Tonight she was going to drug Xuan Ying and work with her father, North Duke.
At night.
Xuan Ying returned to the Snow Mountain Residence and the maids opened the doors. When he first stepped into the living room, he could smell the heavenly scent of cooked food.
“Young Master, Miss Feng used up an entire day’s time to prepare this sumptuous spread for you personally.”
The maids at the Snow Mountain Residence didn’t dare offend Feng Lingxue. They knew that she was Young Master’s new favorite and all addressed her ‘Miss Feng’ instead now.
Xuan Ying looked in the direction of the dining room. Feng Lingxue came out of the kitchen, holding a plate of stir-fried vegetables.
Today she wore a floral dress with her hair pulled into a low ponytail that revealed her beautiful neck. She put on an apron of the same color scheme, exuding an innocent charm.
As she stood beside the dining table, the lights shone on her and it was a heartwarming scene. She was just like a hardworking wife, preparing dinner for her beloved husband.
Xuan Ying’s gaze landed on her and he just couldn’t take his eyes off of her.
“You’re back?” Feng Lingxue placed the dish down and quickly walked over, lifting her hand to unbutton his coat.
“Mm.” He could already smell her fragrant body scent.
“Dinner is ready, let’s go and eat.” Feng Lingxue pulled his hand.
Xuan Ying looked at her, his eyes gleaming. “What’s the occasion?”
“It’s my birthday.” Feng Lingxue smiled at him.
Xuan Ying paused. “I didn’t get you a present.”
“It’s fine.” Feng Lingxue stretched her arm out, hugging his trim waist as she nuzzled her face against his warm chest. “Just let me hug you, there’s no better gift than this.”

Xuan Ying lowered his head, kissing her hair as he said, “Happy birthday, Lingling.”
Lingling…
This was his first time in three years calling her Lingling so gently.
Feng Lingxue thought to herself, the cable car ride he took her on, him calling her ‘Lingling’, she would never forget it.
“Master.” Ah Zhou walked over.
“You can start eating first, I’ll come down soon.” Xuan Ying pushed her away with light movements, turning around to go upstairs.
…
In the study room.
Xuan Ying leaned against the couch while Ah Zhou stood beside him. He was playing with an exquisite box in his hand.
Opening the box, a diamond ring was inside.
Ah Zhou was shocked. Who was Master going to give the diamond ring to?
It was Feng Lingxue’s birthday that day…
Master claimed that he hadn’t gotten her a gift, when in fact… he hadn’t forgotten about it at all.
Ah Zhou couldn’t figure out Master’s thoughts. Master was filled with ambition and certainly had the capability. He built himself this empire. Now Master hadn’t rejected Shi Xiaoxiao, he was being ambiguous and yet planning to give Feng Lingxue a diamond ring?
Was Master planning to marry Feng Lingxue?
Impossible.
Country A was a place where everyone had to be involved in power rivalry, politics, conspiracy. Ah Zhou thought to himself, at Master’s current status, he would be forced to make choices even if he disliked them. So what if Master really chose to marry Feng Lingxue?
Their relationship was already filled with cracks. Even if they were to get married, it would be like walking on thin ice and without any blessings, there wasn’t going to be any happy ending for them.
Xuan Ying didn’t have any expression on his face, he just lowered his eye, looking at the sparkling diamond ring. No one knew what was on his mind.

The LED screen was switched on and it showed what happened in the dining room. When all the maids walked away, Feng Lingxue took a sachet out, pouring its contents into a red wine glass meant for Xuan Ying.
“Master, Miss Feng has already acted on it. She has drugged your wine.”
Xuan Ying’s eyes were dark and dangerous. He lifted his hand, throwing the diamond ring out and it smashed into the LED screen.
The force he threw it at the screen was too strong. Under the onslaught, the screen cracked and the diamond ring fell on the carpeted ground.
His chest started heaving up and down.
He just wanted to see how ruthless she could be towards him.
He just wanted to see for himself, see her betrayal once again. But now that he had learned of it, his heart was broken again.
“Master…” Ah Zhou went forward concernedly.
After a few seconds, Xuan Ying slowly opened his eyes, the corners of his lips rising into a sardonic smile.
…
In the dining room.
Feng Lingxue heard some steady footsteps behind her. Xuan Ying had come downstairs and Ah Zhou left the Snow Mountain Residence.
“You’ve been waiting for a long time?” Xuan Ying sat down and smiled at Feng Lingxue.
“No.”
Xuan Ying picked up a red wine glass. “It’s your birthday today, let’s have a toast.”
He wanted to drink.
Feng Lingxue’s pupils contracted, she quickly said, “Hold on.”
Xuan Ying stopped, looking at her. “What’s the matter? You have something you want to tell me?”
Feng Lingxue’s face was completely pale. Under the lights, her veins could be seen and she balled her hands into two fists. “Nothing, continue.”
Xuan Ying retracted his gaze, hiding away his dangerous aura and he finished the glass of red wine in a gulp.
“This wine… is pretty strong…”
With that, Xuan Ying closed his eyes and collapsed.
…
Feng Lingxue looked at him dazedly. A few moments later, she held his face. I’m sorry, Brother Ying…
She drugged him.
It wasn’t poison, but sedatives.
She switched the poison out.
In half an hour’s time, Brother Ying would regain consciousness.
Feng Lingxue was guilt-ridden, she cheated him once again. But she really had no choice. She had to find out Mu Mu’s whereabouts, she was going insane soon.
Boom! The door to Snow Mountain Residence was kicked open and a gust of cold wind rushed in.
Men dressed in black uniforms rushed over, surrounding the entire Snow Mountain Residence and someone walked in.
It was the North Duke.
When Feng Lingxue saw North Duke, she walked over. “North Duke, my mission is complete.”
North Duke nodded his head satisfactorily and he was about to walk over to the dining room. “I want to check if Xuan Ying’s really dead.”
Feng Lingxue blocked in front of North Duke, looking at him with a cold gaze. “I don’t understand why must you harm Xuan Ying?”
“Lingxue, you really want to know? Fine, let me tell you the truth behind it. It’s because I’ve collaborated with someone and we both want Xuan Ying dead.”
“Who is that someone?” Feng Lingxue asked.
She suddenly heard a familiar voice. “It’s me!”
Feng Lingxue lifted her eyes, it was Xuan Mu.
“It’s… you?” Feng Lingxue shook her head in disbelief. She reached into the pocket of her apron, she kept a recorder inside and it was meant for Xuan Ying. “Xuan Ying is your biological younger brother, why do you want to harm him?”
An sneer crossed his face as Xuan Mu considered her words. “Younger brother?”

Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
