Chapter 294: 294
Chapter 294: City Lord’s Fury
They couldn’t be blamed. Anyone else would have reacted the same way as the white ape was too scary. He managed to kill five beasts as if they were mere ants. Surely, it would have been effortless for the white ape to kill them if he wanted to.
It had only been moments since they felt confident enough to deal with the white ape, but now, they no longer felt the same.
“Huang Yan!”
After the longest time, Young Master Fan called out.
Huang Yan who had been standing dazedly seemed to jolt back to his senses, though his reaction was a tad exaggerated when he shuddered.
“Huang Yan, what are you doing? Help me up!” Young Master Fan shouted from the ground.
His leg was broken where a bone fractured. He couldn’t even move and was sweating profusely due to the pain.
Zhao Xi was also humming in pain beside him but he was able to struggle to get up. After all, it was just a broken arm so strictly speaking, he wasn’t heavily injured.
The two young men helped Young Master Fan up. Judging by the latter’s leg, he had indeed suffered a terrible fall. Not only was his bone fractured, the broken bone even pierced through his flesh, protruding out from his skin. That gory appearance gave the other two goosebumps. It goes without saying, Young Master Fan too.
Young Master Fan didn’t get a good look at his situation earlier. He only felt pain. And now that he saw it, the scion immediately screamed in shock.
This injury was too severe.
Even if he could be treated, he might become a cripple. Limping as he walked would soon be inevitable.
By now, the hunters regained their consciousness. Equally dispirited, they hurried over to help and the group carried and supported Young Master Fan as they quickly left the forest.
Once in contact with a fellow human in a nearby village, they had someone send out a message while letting the village doctor help with relieving their pain.
Young Master Fan’s injury was the worst and he had fainted several times during their way back.

The entire area of Mount Gua was under the jurisdiction of Fan City. Now that the son of Fan City’s city lord was in trouble, folks would obviously show him more attention. So in less than half a day, the people of the city lord manor showed up.
Everyone was surprised to see City Lord Fan show up personally as well.
But that was normal. After all, this protective City Lord only had one beloved son.
Despite being in his sixties, City Lord Fan looked much younger than his actual age. He was visibly furious right now paired with a heavy murderous intent.
His son’s leg was too badly injured. Just now, the physician he had brought along from the city lord manor stated after treatment that, although Young Master Fan’s fractured bones could heal, he would still be disabled.
Initially, if they used some blood contract secret arts to draw essence from the companion pet beast, Young Master Fan could make a full recovery. However, his son’s companion pet beast was dead.
This had also dealt great damage to the blood contract owner, resulting in insufficient blood energy and spirit, so now, they were out of options.
And who in the right mind would be happy to in such a situation?
City Lord Fan looked ominous. Standing before him were Zhao Xi, Huang Yan, and the two hunters.
“Tell me, who injured my son this badly?” City Lord Fan sounded hostile. Being artfully persuasive, Zhao Xi quickly explained the situation.
Of course, there were discrepancies in their version of the story.
For example, they hadn’t provoked the white ape of their own accord. Instead, the white ape had proactively attacked them.
This was an effective tactic they frequently used. That everything was always someone else’s fault, not theirs.
“Uncle Fan, that white ape was really vicious. You weren’t there to see it but we tried really hard to resist the creature. In the end, we couldn’t help it when our pet beasts got killed and we got ourselves injured.”
As he elaborated, Zhao Xi glanced at his arm.
His injury wasn’t considered severe as compared to Young Master Fan’s, but to feign a pitiful appearance, he had the doctor wrap six layers of bandages.

Seeing how Zhao Xi was also pitiable, City Lord Fan’s expression mellowed slightly.
“If that white ape was so vicious, how did you guys escape?” City Lord Fan was no idiot. As the lord of a city, he could obviously tell that something was off in their story.
If it was as Zhao Xi described, that the white ape was a bloodthirsty beast, how could it have let the humans escape after killing their pet beasts?
It was impossible and illogical.
Upon hearing this, sweat began to roll down Zhao Xi’s chubby face.
“Uhm…”
He couldn’t answer.
City Lord Fan sighed and waved dismissively. “Doesn’t matter who, I won’t let anyone who injures my son go free. Zhao Xi, tell me the truth.”
Zhao Xi didn’t dare spout nonsense this time and told him what actually happened.
This latest version was much more believable. City Lord Fan even verified with Huang Yan and the two hunters so there should be no problems with the story.
“A speaking beast… Wouldn’t that make it a monster?” City Lord Fan’s expression darkened. His son’s pet beast was Rank 3 and that was considered powerful enough. Even his own pet beast was only Rank 3.
It shouldn’t have been afraid of a regular monster.
Unless that monster was a Rank 3, or maybe even Rank 4.
If that were the case, as a city lord, even he wouldn’t be able to afford the consequences of provoking such a monster. At least, not with his own strength.
Moreover, according to the hunters’ and Zhao Xi’s description, there was also a horrifying coffin other than the white ape, and finally, a man.
After the man appeared, he called the white ape back.
If they were not mistaken, the man should be this white ape’s owner.
Thus, City Lord Fan began inquiring about specific details about the man. After hearing Zhao Xi, Huang Yan, and the others’ descriptions, coupled with his son’s explanation, City Lord Fan managed to grasp a few important details.
It was a young man, addressed as ‘Master Lin’ by the white ape.
Meaning to say, that man’s surname was ‘Lin’.
In addition, that man had a two-ringed beast logo on his sleeve, making him a Rank 2 beast appraiser.
A young Rank 2 beast appraiser with the surname ‘Lin’. That reduced their target range quite significantly. At least he knew that such a person didn’t exist within Fan City’s borders.
The boundary next to Fan City was the imperial capital while on the other side, it was Maple City’s borders. Could the man be a beast appraiser from either the royal capital or Maple City?
City Lord Fan immediately dispatched someone to gather information.
He had to plan before making a move, and just as he declared earlier, he wouldn’t let the perpetrator go free. No matter who that person was, he would reclaim justice for his son.
Meanwhile, Lin Jin knew nothing about this happened. By now, he had entered Maple City’s borders.
Now that his traveling speed was much quicker than before, it only took him a little over half a day before he saw Maple City’s walls again.
“We’re home.”
Lin Jin smiled.
They had been gone for quite a while this time with too many things happening in between. His skill knowledge and cultivation, in particular, had undergone a drastic change since he last left home. Of course, the greatest change would be in his mindset.
After his strength improved, Lin Jin was no longer apprehensive as before, afraid of letting others know what he did. Now, he didn’t care if they found out. After all, even Jade Dragon Kingdom’s emperor couldn’t do anything to him.
‘I wonder if Zhao Ying, Lu Xiaoyun, and the others have worked on their cultivation. Has Shang’er and the others gotten used to things here?’ Lin Jin wondered.
Turning to look at White Ape, as the latter was carrying a coffin, he couldn’t well minimize himself. However, that no longer mattered because Lin Jin could use Camouflage to shield White Ape and the coffin. It was no problem at all.

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.

Despondent Divinity
There exists a Great Seal which split the world in two, one half ravaged by the Darkness, the other a safe haven of Light. Since the collapse of the old world, 20,000 years have passed, and the world watches on as their only protection from the Plague of Plagues slowly dissipates. Only the strong may survive the oncoming Demon horde, and the forgotten prince, Jack Calmira, fears he may not have what it takes. In a world where weakness is punished by death, what are weak men to do? Author's Note: Expect a chapter or two every month, but I'll get faster eventually. This story isn't a Wuxia, but it has a lot of eastern influence. The MC isn't OP and is flawed. Less action, more character driven. Constructive criticism would be appreciated as it's my first story. Chinese culture has inspired a lot of the novel, but much of it is an amalgamation of different cultures, some made up and some not. Think Xianxia + Shounen with a mix of western and eastern fantasy elements.
