Chapter 250: 250
Chapter 250: Old Taoist’s Lightning Amulet
While this breath of Old Taoist’s seemed average, the truth was far from it.
A tempest immediately swirled, trapping the blood bat inside. No matter how large in size it was, it couldn’t break free from the strong winds for a moment there.
Seeing his attack succeed, Old Taoist quickly escaped.
It wasn’t because he was a terrible friend, rather, he didn’t know White Ape that well. Moreover, Old Taoist knew his own capabilities. He’d be alright against normal people but not this Blood Bat.
Having traveled for decades and experiencing so much, Old Taoist was certainly knowledgeable enough to have heard of villainous experts.
The villainous community had its own set of rules. These villains weren’t classified by city or country. Instead, there were individual rankings for them based on continents, and Blood Bat was quite well-known in United Continent as a villainous expert.
That monk controlling the python was the same, stronger than Blood Bat even.
He was ranked within the top twenty in this world’s worst villains.
Old Taoist naturally didn’t want to provoke either of them because both their pet beasts were Rank 4. While Old Taoist had some skills, he didn’t have a pet beast of his own. The monkey demon disciple he had taken in was only Rank 2. Although he could speak and have learned Transfiguration, he wasn’t capable of offense.
So, running was the best option.
Yet, the other party wouldn’t let him.
Blood Bat’s expression darkened and she invoked a spell. Her pet beast immediately increased in size as a crimson light surrounded it.
It broke free from the tempest at once and flapped its wings, sending a gust toward Old Taoist who had run more than a hundred feet away, causing him to fall.
Old Taoist fell down hard, even knocking his head, unable to pick himself back up. As the blood bat closed in, Old Taoist shouted, “My life is over!”

Suddenly, a rock came smashing over, hitting the blood bat’s head and shattering to pieces.
Then, there was another and another.
The one throwing stones was the monkey demon.
Old Taoist mused, ‘You have some conscience, after all, traitor.’
He was clear that this wouldn’t end nicely. The attackers were obviously aiming to kill and Old Taoist knew that the strongest among them was the Rank 4 fire wolf in the yard who was covered in flames. However, that creature was currently being restricted by a jade dragon.
No doubt, that jade dragon must be Rank 4 too.
This was Jade Dragon Kingdom so it wasn’t strange to see a jade dragon here. But for it to collaborate with those villainous experts meant that highly-ranked officials were trying to deal with this fire wolf and white ape.
This was a tricky situation.
Based on Old Taoist’s character, he would never want to get involved. But now, he already did despite his reluctance and that blood bat showed no signs of wanting to let him go.
Old Taoist wasn’t some saint though. He had done good things but wasn’t completely guilt-free either. If someone wanted to take his life, he wouldn’t just go down without a fight.
‘I don’t want to die yet!’ Feeling determined, Old Taoist withdrew a wrinkly amulet.
It seemed like an average amulet but the inscription was written with great intensity and gave off an air of righteousness.
“Dragon of thunder, in the holy name of your master, send forth crashes and sparks, heed my command!”
Old Taoist was practically gritting his teeth as he chanted the edict.
His reason was simple. This was a lightning amulet.
The last one from Cloud Sect. It would be gone after use so Old Taoist treasured this amulet greatly. He wouldn’t even take it out whenever he came across dangers.
But today, the situation was clearly lethal so if he didn’t use it, he would die.

Between life and death, it didn’t take much to figure out which to choose.
So Old Taoist used it, even though his heart was bleeding.
The next instant, a bolt of lightning came crashing down, striking the blood bat. The sound was loud but the might of this lightning was much weaker than Old Taoist had imagined.
He thought it would have been rolling thunder.
Speaking of which, this was his first time using it. His senior in Cloud Sect had mentioned it before but who knew this lightning amulet would be so insignificant.
Still, despite the weakly powers, it was still a bolt of lightning.
The blood bat was struck to the ground, electricity still running through its body making crackling sounds. A huge part of the blood bat was scorched. Even if the lightning amulet wasn’t that strong, it was enough to paralyze and torture the blood bat for a moment.
The woman standing on the rooftop was shocked. That bolt of lightning emanated an incredible air and it clearly hadn’t come from a pet beast.
This was spell-casting.
An orthodox spell-casting by cultivators.
The woman was subconsciously frightened and scared. However, she soon regained her senses after seeing how battered Old Taoist was. The man must have borrowed external strength to cast that spell. He shouldn’t be very strong, otherwise, that bolt of lightning earlier wouldn’t be so flimsy.
“How dare you hurt my pet beast! You’ll pay for this!” the woman roared and cast a spell. Out of nowhere, a cow flew over. The blood bat immediately darted toward the cow and bore its fangs, sucking the cow dry in just moments.
The burns on this blood bat began to heal quickly.
Old Taoist was shuddering. He was out of ideas. Even the strongest lightning amulet in his arsenal didn’t work so he didn’t know what to do now.
Since he couldn’t fight back, nor run, what was left was to wait for death.
Inside the royal capital, there was an inconspicuous and somewhat unknown tea house. The business was slow but they had been in operation for several years now, making the shop an old name.
Hu Tea House.
The owner’s surname was Hu. He was an old man who lived peacefully and would open his shop no matter if business was good or bad, rain or shine.
At that moment.
Old Hu was a little afraid.
The reason was simple. Since yesterday, there had been four odd-looking people sitting in his shop.
They weren’t really that odd. One of them looked like a scholar and that was quite normal. Right, the woman holding the swaddle didn’t look strange too.
She was quite a beauty too. Tsk, tsk, definitely one of the most beautiful women Old Hu had ever seen. She was so much better than his plain-old housewife at home.
As for the other two, one looked fearsome as a devil while the other was worst. The man was tall and dressed in thick cloths, emitting a strange smell, and even had a coffin placed beside him.
What kind of normal person would take a coffin along with them?
However, these four had been sitting there for a day and night now and this was weird. Even if the scholar and beautiful woman with a swaddle looked ordinary, they no longer seem so to Old Hu.
Fortunately, these four didn’t make any sudden movements. They just sat there. The scholar was drinking tea, the beautiful lady was coaxing her child, and the other two were like statues, neither spoke or so much as grunted.
Old Hu felt so much pressure.
The only consoling factor was how these four customers were very generous. The amount they paid yesterday was worth one month’s profit so if they wanted to sit there, let them.

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here.
