Chapter 119: Shocking the Association
Chapter 119: Shocking the Association
The crowd began chattering.
There were also people who were speculating that Lin Jin might have passed the first realm blood contract assessment.
While the crowd didn’t find it plausible, it wasn’t entirely impossible.
Zhao Pi suspected that as well, and he was noticeably upset by it. Things were heading in the opposite direction from what he originally planned. And at the thought of losing more spirit stones, his heart throbbed in pain.
That would be over a hundred spirit stones.
‘F*ck! When that brat comes out later, I’ll mess him up real bad.’
Sensing that he had lost this battle, Zhao Pi endured his rage so he could vent his frustrations on Lin Jin when he re-emerges from the assessment room later.
He even thought of what he would say to him.
Time continued to trickle away and another long while passed.
“Why aren’t they out yet?”
The crowd was truly surprised this time while Zhao Pi looked extremely displeased. Despite wearing an unsettled facial expression, he was just as curious.
He was curious about what Lin Jin was doing inside.
He couldn’t possibly have passed the second realm assessment, would he?
At this thought, Zhao Pi felt his head spin.
If Lin Jin passed the second realm assessment, he was entitled to move on to the third realm. And no matter if he passed or failed, Zhao Pi would be the one to shoulder his assessment fees.
He was truly going to suffer great losses this time.
Zhao Pi was regretting it now but there was still an ounce of doubt inside him. Even if Lin Jin was a beast appraiser, he couldn’t possibly reach the second realm just two days after entering the Friar Association, could he?
At that moment, the door of the assessment room finally opened.
Zhao Pi got excited, musing to himself, ‘They’re finally out!’
His rage and grievances immediately swelled up and he was about to lash out against Lin Jin. However, he was surprised to see that it wasn’t Lin Jin who came out but one of the invigilating elders.

At that moment, the usually stern and indifferent elder emerged with an excited expression. Ignoring everybody else, he took out an amulet and tossed it upward.
Swoosh!
The amulet formed a ray of light and shot into the sky.
After releasing the amulet, this elder turned around and hurried back inside the assessment room.
Now, everyone, including Zhao Pi, was dumbstruck.
What was going on?
Something interesting was obviously going on inside, but exactly what was happening, no one knew.
And what would shock them even more had yet to come.
Soon, a silhouette swiftly swooped over the crowd and landed.
Upon seeing this person, the crowd quickly paid their respects.
He was none other than Mr. Huangfu. Ranked at least top three among Maple City Friar Association’s mentors, an expert with seventh realm blood contract.
In the Friar Association, upon reaching the fifth realm, one could begin their teaching career. Most mentors could only reach the sixth realm while a handful of prominent figures like Huangfu Ming and Ye Yuzhou could reach the seventh realm and above.
Huangfu Ming hastily made his way into the assessment room without another word.
The crowd started discussing why Mr. Huangfu had shown up here for no apparent reason.
Before they could even end their discussion, another expert flew over from above.
This time, there was more than one person.
“It’s Teacher Luo Beihe and Mr. Yi!” the disciples exclaimed.
Luo Beihe was a female mentor dressed completely in white with a steely expression. Mr. Yi wore black robes while his long white hair and beard swayed handsomely in the slight breeze.
Embroidered on both their robes were six cloud patterns.
“Miss Beihe!” Mr. Yi took the initiative to greet her. Luo Beihe nodded and asked, “Did Mr. Yuzhou come as well?”
Mr. Yi quickly answered, “I heard that Mr. Yuzhou has gone into seclusion yesterday so he might not have time to come over.”
Luo Beihe nodded but there was a visible hint of excitement in her eyes. Then, both of them entered the assessment room in rapid succession.
The huge crowd of disciples outside fell dead silent, no one daring to say a single word.

Next up, a few more other mentors of the Friar Association arrived, all in a hasty manner. Some of them even look flustered as if they had run all the way here.
Right, it looked like it was almost time for recess. The canteen was open and everyone was flocking over in fear of losing out.
It was an insane situation.
Large beads of sweat covered Zhao Pi’s forehead.
He mused, ‘What in the world is going on?’
Simultaneously inside the assessment room, Lin Jin was still in the middle of completing his assessment.
He was standing in a spot surrounded by three large stone pillars. These stone pillars were covered in tightly-packed runes and spells. It was easy to tell that all three stone pillars were ancient structures.
The blood contract assessment was rather simple. The candidate only needed to stand in the center of these three stone pillars and someone on the outside will generate a special force field.
The various symbols invoked on the stone pillars would show which realm level the candidate’s blood contract was at.
Right now, half of the symbols on all three pillars have lit up.
Not too far away, Huangfu Ming who had entered earlier looked shocked.
“Who would’ve thought he could last so long in the fourth realm blood contract’s force field. If he continues making progress at this rate, he’d pass the fourth realm in just a short while.”
The other mentors of the Friar Association nodded in agreement.
One of the invigilating elders commented excitedly, “He’s a great seedling, achieving the fourth realm on his first assessment! His future is limitless I tell you!
“What matters is the fact that he’s not affiliated with any mentor yet. A person of his talent shouldn’t be wasted. He must be guided by a good teacher, and this is the reason why I’ve gathered all of you here.”
The elder began his explanation.
The mentors present agreed wholeheartedly. There were even traces of passion as they stared ardently at Lin Jin.
Given the current situation, there was a high chance he could achieve the fourth realm, making him a fourth realm beginner disciple.
And how many disciples in the Friar Association were at the fourth realm?
Not many.
Just three.
Even Yang Jie, who was deemed by many as the association’s number one prodigy had to cultivate for several years to achieve his current level. Now that a newcomer with such a high starting point had arrived, if they could take this disciple under their wing, all future achievements made by this disciple would only bring honor to their name. They might even get incredible rewards in return.
As a mentor, what could be more attractive than this?
They were rubbing their hands with glee, ready to fight over Lin Jin once he was done with his assessment.
With Ye Yuzhou absent, they had a much better chance of getting Lin Jin under their mentorship. On average, half of the best disciples in the association were affiliated with Ye Yuzhou and there was nothing they could do to prevent it. Old man Ye’s level of cultivation was much higher, and with his status and caliber, the other mentors couldn’t stand a chance against him.
However, today, the heavens had answered their prayers. Old Ye had gone into seclusion.
With this, they now had a chance.
Still, besides Ye Yuzhou, there was another huge mountain for them to cross to obtain their goal. And that was Huangfu Ming.
Ye Yuzhou’s blood contract was on the eighth realm while Huangfu Ming was slightly weaker, belonging to the seventh realm.
But that still made him stronger than everyone else here. Moreover, among Huangfu Ming’s disciples, Lu Yunhe was ranked top three among all disciples and he also had quite a few good seedlings under his care. Hence, it could be said that their largest competitor here was Huangfu Ming.
The mentors stole glances at Huangfu Ming, making notes to themselves that if they wanted to win against Mr. Huangfu, they had to offer more advantages to Lin Jin.
Little did they know that Huangfu Ming had already rejected Lin Jin once.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri).
