Chapter 116: 116
Chapter 116: Vein Strengthening Hurts!
Lin Jin already felt he was getting results after just completing one breath. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call the effects immediate. Ignoring the fact that this unique breathing technique could raise his blood pact’s level, right after performing it, Lin Jin felt his mind grow sharper, his eyesight keener, and his head clearer. This was amazing and it seemed beneficial to practice this daily.
As if that wasn’t awesome enough, the name of this technique was ‘Daoist Taiyi’s Breathing Technique’.
Lin Jin was curious where the Museum of Deadly Beasts got all its info. But the museum itself was a mysterious existence so Lin Jin couldn’t seek any answers for now.
After three more breaths, the spirit energy in his surroundings was completely stirred up.
With relatively weaker senses, your typical human would never perceive such subtle changes, but the pet beasts in the room were clearly startled as they kept looking around confusedly.
Xiao Huo who was laying beside Lin Jin merely looked up at his master before falling back to sleep.
He was quite tired after cultivating the Beast Energy Formation Part Two so Xiao Huo was keen on napping whenever he got the chance.
Lin Jin could feel himself absorbing spirit energy and breathing out foul air. Feeling encouraged, he continued doing the exercise.
This truly was spirit seizing.
To maximize efficiency, Lin Jin used the pulse-seeking technique on himself, piercing several acupoints on his body to enhance the effects of the technique.
Ten breaths.
After just ten breaths, all the spirit energy in the Spirit Library was ‘swallowed up’ by Lin Jin.
There was no more spirit energy left in the air.
The spirit energy here was now sparse and this place was considered to have more of it. Other places might not even have one-tenth of the spirit energy here.
Lin Jin could sense the diminishing returns he was getting from this technique.
Using the same fishing analogy, as all the fishes in this part of the sea had been captured, no matter how skilled the fisherman, there was nothing left for him to catch.
Feeling helpless, Lin Jin stopped.
The breathing technique was amazing. Perhaps in ancient times, it was considered an impressive immortal cultivation technique, but it wasn’t as effective anymore in today’s world.

The limited spirit energy in the entire Spirit Library couldn’t even fill up ten breaths and the situation only got worse outside. Hence, relying on this method of cultivation wasn’t the wisest choice right now.
However, the effects of ten breaths were plenty visible. Lin Jin could feel his strength improving even though he couldn’t quantify how much of an improvement he had experienced. One could imagine that in ancient times when spirit energy was abundant, by using this breathing technique, the user would easily be able to achieve the ninth realm of their blood pact in just one night.
Since this didn’t work, Lin Jin would have to switch to…
The vein strengthening technique.
Previously, when Lin Jin declared this method to be most suitable for him, it wasn’t said without rhyme or reason. By using pills together with the pulse-seeking technique, the vein strengthening method requires tearing down and mending the user’s veins, restructuring them completely to achieve advancement.
Without the pulse-seeking technique, it was impossible to even make this method work.
Looking up, Lin Jin realized that the occupants in the west wing’s first room had increased and it was getting crowded, so he planned to relocate.
With Xiao Huo in tow, they left and entered the west wing’s second room.
Although this place was also occupied, there were still more empty spots.
Lin Jin found a book to hold in his hand. He took out a thin needle with his free hand and began cultivating the vein strengthening method.
The human body had hundreds of acupoints, but more specifically, it had a hundred and eight main points. Veins were the intermediate canals that connected all internal organs to these acupoints. Vein strengthening required remolding the veins bit by bit, sections by sections.
It consumed time, effort, and the process was excruciatingly painful.
Lin Jin was trying to reconstruct the veins around the Sea of Qi acupoint. As a result, his forehead glistened with sweat and he almost yelled in pain in the beginning stage of the treatment.
However, once vein strengthening began, it had to be completed or there was the chance of the user getting hurt. So, no matter how painful the procedure was, Lin Jin had to endure it. He still needed to use the pulse-seeking technique to mend his own veins.

By the time he was done remolding the veins in the aforementioned area, as if his soul had been sucked out from his body, Lin Jin’s complexion was deathly pale and he was drenched in his own sweat.
He clearly overlooked one important detail.
Lin Jin shouldn’t be performing the acupuncture on himself for this method. Even in ancient times, another person was required to help work the needle while the target focused on the cultivation process.
After all, enduring the intense pain was a hard enough task itself. To perform acupuncture on himself was practically torture.
But the vein strengthening method’s explanation inside the museum didn’t mention this detail so Lin Jin had no idea that he was overexerting himself.
Realizing that Lin Jin was in pain, Xiao Huo could only pace around nervously, feeling worried for his master. But there was nothing the beast could do to help Lin Jin.
Simultaneously outside the Spirit Library.
Chen Cheng was standing in a faraway corner surrounded by his confidants.
“Are you guys sure it was Lin Jin who entered there?” Chen Cheng asked.
One of his confidants nodded. “We’re absolutely sure. We’ve seen him before so there’s no way we would be mistaken.”
Chen Cheng nodded in response.
He had weaved the previous rumor, hoping that Lin Jin and Yang Jie would get into a fight. But for some reason, Yang Jie had gone into seclusion with their mentor, Ye Yuzhou, since yesterday to cultivate.
The fight he was looking forward to didn’t happen.
Chen Cheng was infuriated and envious that Yang Jie could get a solo lesson with their teacher.
Chen Cheng had never experienced such privilege before, not even once.
Oh, how jealous he was!
But he didn’t dare to provoke Yang Jie. Feeling annoyed, he decided to give Lin Jin trouble to vent his frustrations.
“This Lin Jin doesn’t know his place and has been rude to Senior Yang Jie. We, the disciples of Master Ye, share the same spirit, honor, and disgrace. How could we let ourselves be bullied by a newcomer like him? Zhao Pi, you’re great with ideas. Can you think of a prank that would embarrass him?”
Adept at scheming, Chen Cheng intentionally used rumors to his advantage and sowed discord between Lin Jin and Ye Yuzhou’s students.
With this, he wouldn’t have to dirty his hands in the process of stirring up trouble. Other people would only assume he was being thoughtful of Senior Yang Jie and considerate of Master Ye’s faction.
Moreover, Lin Jin was recommended by Huangfu Ming, who had always been at odds with Master Ye’s faction.
This person named Zhao Pi with a rat face constantly helped others come up with ploys. He sniggered before saying, “That’s easy. I can guarantee that Lin Jin will be shamed and humiliated without us having to put in too much effort.”
Chen Cheng believed in him.
Among Ye Yuzhou’s disciples, Zhao Pi wasn’t the most talented student, nor was he very highly cultivated. His blood contract was only at second realm but when it came to scheming, Zhao Pi was second to none.
“Junior Zhao, I’ll leave this to you. You know that I’ve met Lin Jin before, so…” Chen Cheng said.
“I understand. You’ll just have to watch this time, Senior Chen.”
Having said that, Zhao Pi led several people into the Spirit Library with great confidence.
At that moment, Lin Jin was contemplating if he should continue with the ‘vein strengthening’ method.
It wasn’t because he was spineless, but this cultivation method was way too agonizing. It was like performing an operation on himself. What pure torture.
Lin Jin had yet to notice any results. The Sea of Qi he had chosen was considered one of the more important veins. After reconstruction, it did feel tougher. Road-construction would be a great analogy for this. Prior to the reconstruction, only two horse-drawn carriages could pass through at the same time, but now, this highway could support up to six horse-drawn carriages. In other words, the method paid off.
Too bad, before he had the chance to recover from the excruciating pain he had put himself through, Zhao Pi and his group found Lin Jin.

Haven in a Dangerous World (Old)
Devin McMullen. Female. 18. Single dad. Dead mom. Good in fights and little else. No friends. Or, at least, that's what she's always been. Now, she's not sure exactly what she is. She's never been one for reading fiction, or anything for that matter, but this feels like something straight out of a fantasy. Her newly acquired instincts, however, scream dungeon core. Whatever that is. Unlike most dungeon cores, though, she's missing something very important. A dungeon. Stuck out in the open, above ground where she's definitely not supposed to be, with not a cave in sight, or any other land form besides miles and miles of ice and snow, Devin's not sure if she can survive. Update: Big caveate, though, just so you know. Started with this one idea and ran with it as far as I could. Characters and plot suffer from it, but I'm proud that I wrote as much as I did. I will rewrite this at some point and make it so it actually has plot. Check out my wordpress © [koallary] and [Haven in a Dangerous World], [2017].
