The Deity of War Chapter 98
Chapter 98: The Fall of the Duan Family
Gu Tailai, Duan Xilai, Duan Hongxue, and the others were all struck by the feeling that a massive mountain had crashed down upon them. The two massive Battle Spirits shrank slightly in stature, and the weapon-type Battle Spirits wielded by Family Leaders Sun and Wang also dimmed significantly.
“Who’s there?!”
Everyone’s expressions changed drastically.
There was no one who possessed such immense power in the surrounding counties!
‘Just who was the true owner of the Colosseum?’
‘Could it be… that they were unfortunate enough to have actually stumbled upon a spy from an enemy kingdom?’
All of them were rooted to the spot as chills ran down their spines.
Finally, an extremely thin and slightly hunched-over figure appeared before everyone.
Everyone’s eyes widened in disbelief!
Gu Tailai shuddered as he exclaimed, “Master Nine?!”
The man who had just appeared was none other than one of the important figures, that they had seen at the Mist Willow Mountain Villa the day prior; he was Yan Nine from the Yan family of Yun Xiao City!
Duan Xilai, Duan Hongxue, and the other two family leaders were also astonished.
‘What’s going on?’
‘Why is Master Yan Nine here? How is he related to the Colosseum? And how is he related to Yan Thirteen? Wait… Yan NINE? Yan THIRTEEN?’
The similarities in the names finally led them to an abrupt realization!
Yan Nine and Yan Thirteen were definitely closely related to one another!
Yan Nine strode slowly over to where everyone was. He appeared to be quite thin and frail, but his mountainous aura struck them with a sense of asphyxiation.
“Hehe, my little brother here may not have done many great things in his lifetime, but I can assure you that he is no foreign spy.”
Yan Nine wore a smile on his face, but that smile somehow only made him even more menacing!
‘Little brother?’

Even if they weren’t blood brothers, for him to refer to Yan Thirteen as his little brother was telling everyone all they needed to know… Gu Tailai and the others were on the verge of tears. They had completely and utterly screwed up!
Gu Tailai trembled uncontrollably as he said in a panicked voice, “Master Nine… I wasn’t aware of your relationship with Master Thirteen… This is all just a misunderstanding!”
Duan Xilai and the others hurriedly chimed in, “That’s right, it was a misunderstanding!”
Clang!
A red scimitar fell to the ground.
Yan Thirteen chuckled coldly, “So that assassin you sent yesterday was also a misunderstanding?”
Gasp…
Cold sweat began to pour down Duan Xilai’s face. That was Xue Yuesha’s scimitar… There was no mistaking it; he had most definitely been killed by Yan Thirteen the night before!
Just as he was scrambling for an explanation.
Thud thud!
Two more people scaled the steps and arrived at the second floor.
They were the two Spirit Martial Stage warriors that Duan Xilai had invited from a neighboring county.
“Family Leader Duan!”
“Has the battle already begun?”
“Die, Yan Thirteen!”
Boom!
The two people were greeted by the sight of everyone with their Battle Spirits summoned, and they immediately entered the fray, blasting powerful battle techniques at Yan Thirteen.
“Piss off!”
Yan Nine suddenly raised a hand.
All of a sudden, an invisible wall of energy appeared in mid-air. A vast burst of power kept both of the Spirit Martial Stage warriors’ attacks at bay, before sending them flying!
Thump!
The two of them made two deep human-shaped indentations in the wall.
Yan Thirteen glared intently at Duan Xilai as a cold smile appeared on his face. “Family Leader Duan, you sure are keen to kill me!”
“No, it’s not like that! Let me explain…”
Duan Xilai wanted to invent an excuse, but Yan Thirteen cut him off, “What is there to explain, after the events that unfolded at the Celestial River Academy a few days ago?”

“…”
Duan Xilai’s expression darkened.
He knew that there was no way he could talk himself out of that hole!
At that moment, Yan Thirteen suddenly said, “Brother Nine, I want to kill someone.”
Yan Nine replied indifferently, “Go ahead.”
“Don’t you dare!”
Duan Xilai let loose an explosive roar. He wasn’t just going to sit around and allow himself to be killed! He activated his Black Winged Tiger Battle Spirit with all his might, and yelled in a loud voice as he charged toward Yan Nine, “Everyone, attack! Those two won’t be able to take on all of us!”
However, before anyone had time to react, Yan Nine had raised his hand, and what seemed to be a length of rope appeared from thin air. The Black Winged Tiger was then instantly bound, and completely immobilized.
Whoosh!
The other end of the rope also tied up Duan Xilai! No matter how much he struggled, he couldn’t break free.
“Save your energy. My Brother Nine’s God Binding Rope Battle Spirit has managed to immobilize even Earth Martial Stage powerful beings…” Yan Thirteen sighed as he strode over to Duan Xilai, “Your Duan family has been far too arrogant for far too long. You’re always trying to stomp everyone beneath your feet, and now, you reap what you sow; you’ve finally stepped onto a nail…”
Duan Xilai finally began to beg for mercy, “Master Thirteen, I was blinded by my greed! You can have any treasure you like from our Duan family!”
“Treasures? I’m not interested in those… However, I really do need something from you to give to my friend.”
“What is it?”
“Your head!”
Before Duan Xilai even had a chance to react, his head had already been detached from his body and was rolling around on the ground. Throughout the entire process, he didn’t even know how he had been decapitated.
After that.
Splat!
Duan Hongxue’s head also fell to the ground.
Gasp…
Family Leader Sun drew a sharp breath. At the same time, he noticed that there was a barely noticeable object sitting on Yan Thirteen’s palm. It was a blade as thin as a cicada wing, and it most definitely wasn’t a weapon; it was a Battle Spirit!
He came to a sudden realization. “God Binding Rope? Life Harvesting Blade? I remember now; you two were the prince’s…”
“Keep it to yourself!”
Yan Thirteen cut him off.
Family Leader Sun immediately shut his mouth.
“As for the rest of you…” Yan Thirteen appraised Gu Tailai and the two family leaders as if they were his playthings, “If you don’t want to end up like them, then you’ll have to do something for me.”
“What is it?”
“Destroy the Duan family!”
…
“Gasp…”
Sun Changyu’s eyes widened with shock upon hearing his father’s recount of events. “That’s way too cruel! So the Duan family was destroyed just like that? And the mayor was involved as well?”
In his eyes, the Duan family was an almighty colossus!
How could they have been destroyed that easily?
Furthermore, the Duan family had several hundred members; killing all of them was a heinous crime!
Family Leader Sun heaved a faint sigh, “In their eyes, our supposed major families are no different to underprivileged warriors… How do you think the seven major families were able to dominate the capital for over a millennium? They’ve done it through being decisive and heartless. Anyone who offends them will suffer devastating consequences… Their reputation is one that is forged upon countless dead bodies!”

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
