The Great Ruler Chapter 1031 – Lake of Treasures
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
The jade bottle flew out and finally hovered in front of Mu Chen, who just glanced at it and gathered it in his sleeve, the corners of his mouth curving into a satisfied smile. Although it was not possible to leave all of Golden Sky Prime and his people here, his having a harvest of eight million drops of Sovereign Spiritual Liquid was already a great gain.
If one were to use this Sovereign Spiritual Liquid to practice his cultivation, he should be able to enhance and increase his spiritual powers and reach the peak of a Sixth Grade Sovereign!
“Brother Golden is generous indeed… In that case, may I ask y’all to leave first?” Mu Chen kept the jade bottle, then smiled as he looked at Golden Sky Prime and his group.
The group of people’s faces were gloomy, their eyes extremely sad. All of their eyes were fixated in the distance, where the Treasure Beast had fallen. They knew that there must be many precious treasures out there, but now, those treasures had nothing to do with them.
Since Golden Sky Prime had been severely injured and had lost his combat prowess, they were lucky to be able to get out unscathed in their powerless states. It would be extremely difficult for them, if they wanted to fight for the treasures again, as they were strong in will, but devastatingly weak in power.
“Let’s go!” Golden Sky Prime shouted.
As Golden Sky Prime was a decisive person and did not want to engage in a meaningless struggle, he glared maliciously at Mu Chen, gnashed his teeth, and turned away.
Behind him, Golden Break and the others followed, their faces clouded with disappointment. Today’s events were simply a disgrace in their minds, as they had originally thought that they would attain a certain victory, but a human, who was only a mere Sixth Grade Sovereign, had turned the tides!
However, the fact remained that, no matter how they dwelled on it, the situation had already happened. Thus, they could only hang their heads in defeat and follow behind Golden Sky Prime, leaving the arena in low spirits.
Mu Chen looked at Golden Sky Prime’s retreating figure, his tense body gradually relaxing. He had been really worried that the other party might want to engage in a life and death struggle. In that case, he would have certainly had to pay a price.
“This Golden Sky Prime is a formidable character indeed…” Nine Nether retracted her gaze and sighed. In the previous battle, even Mu Chen could only use his momentum to suppress him and find his flaw, before defeating him.
Mu Chen also nodded, obviously sharing her sentiments. Golden Sky Prime was indeed a difficult opponent, but he was not particularly afraid of him. This was because Mu Chen never cared about losers who had lost at his hands.

Since he was able to beat him the first time, there would be a second victory for Mu Chen, should they ever meet again. This was not arrogance, but a strong self-confidence, coming straight from Mu Chen’s heart. After all, the truly powerful characters were never afraid of the past!
Mu Chen’s physical body has just broken through the second level of the Dragon-Phoenix Scriptures, which belonged to the second level of power. Thus, he had only scratched the surface, so the space for growth was incredibly large!
In addition, Mu Chen’s spiritual energy cultivation had also undergone rapid refinement throughout the numerous battles. When he really attained the breakthrough to the rank of Seventh Grade Sovereign, if he wanted to defeat Golden Sky Prime again, it would just be a matter of effortlessly turning his hand.
Furthermore, he also possessed spiritual arrays, as well as a growing understanding of the Self-sacrificing Demonic Fist. Of course, his most powerful means would be his role as a war troop dispatcher.
However, he had to be backed up by a large army, and if the conditions were met, he might be able to fight head-on with opponents below the rank of an Earthly Sovereign. With such powerful means, he naturally wouldn’t regard Golden Sky Prime as a threat.
“My wisest choice ever, since I embarked on this journey to the Land of the Divine Beasts, was to work with Brother Mu.” Han Shan, who was beside him, sighed and said. “In this journey, Brother Mu has put in the most effort, and we enjoyed the fruits of your hard work.”
It was true that most of the journey’s crises had been resolved by Mu Chen’s power. In fact, if it had not been for him, they would have had to retreat in humiliation.
Mu Chen only smiled at this, as he pondered it for a moment. He then took out the eight million drops of Sovereign Spiritual Liquid that he had obtained from before, intending to divide them among the group. However, not only did Han Shan hurriedly refuse him, but even Nine Nether shook her head.
In the Body-refining Tower, Nine Nether and Ink Blade could share the Sovereign Spiritual Liquid that Mu Chen had obtained, as they would have done their parts by then. However, at this time, Mu Chen had earned it all on his own. Not only did they not contribute, on the contrary, Mu Chen had saved them! Thus, they were unable to receive it with absolute peace of mind.
Seeing their firm refusals, Mu Chen did not insist further, but kept the eight million drops of Sovereign Spiritual Liquid. He did this because he had decided to pay closer attention to spiritual cultivation and these drops would allow that education to be smoother.
“Let’s hurry up and go to the place where the Treasure Beast fell. If Golden Sky Prime and his gang were unwilling to leave and turned back, I’m afraid that something will happen again,” Han Shan suggested, then urged.

Hearing this, everyone perked up. They had worked so hard, just for the treasures of the Treasure Beast! They had conquered so many obstacles, so they figured that it was time for them to now reap the fruits of their labors.
At this point, even Mu Chen’s eyes had some heated excitement in them. He was clearly anticipating finding the treasures of the Treasure Beast. They didn’t know if the Quasi-Divine Artifact would surface yet, but if it really did, it would mean an immense profit for them!
“Let’s go!” Han Shan grinned at the excited crowd, then took the lead, heading to the innermost part of the murky basin terrain. Mu Chen and the rest immediately followed closely behind.
A group of people scurried past. Perhaps it was because the previous Spirit Tide of beasts had caused all the beast spirits here to move, but the journey was quite smooth. Even if there were beast spirits, there were only a few of them, which Mu Chen handled effortlessly.
After traveling swiftly for an hour or so, Han Shan began to slow down gradually, his expression turning solemn. This occurred because the death-gas around the world had become thick and dark all of a sudden.
The death-gas was so chilling, even the white flames on their shoulders had become much weaker, the death-gas having eroded it. In fact, the death-gas here was horrific!
Sensing this strong death-gas, Mu Chen and the others were also on their guards, as such a death-gas would only be produced by the decay of a powerful entity’s flesh!
Besides the fallen Treasure Beast, who else could produce a death-gas of such magnitude?
This was a clear indicator that they were getting very close to the land where the Treasure Beast had fallen. The gang crossed the land of the dark and ominous death-gas gingerly and cautiously. After a few minutes, their dim visions suddenly began to brighten, and the thick death-gas showed signs of dissipating.
Their swiftly moving bodies gradually stopped, then they all looked in surprise to the front of the group. Just before them, in the deepest part of the forest, which was full of death-gas and decay, there was a clear-watered lake. The lake was so huge, its edges couldn’t be seen at a glance.
The lake water was clear and transparent. Not only was it not polluted by the death-gas, but a glittering light surrounded it, isolating it from the toxins of the death-gas. Moreover, there seem to be remnants of a powerful mind power guarding the place.
“This is the place where the Treasure Beast fell. We call it the ‘Lake of Treasures.’” Han Shan’s gaze was heated, as he looked at the crystal lake.
“Lake of Treasures?” Mu Chen repeated, as he looked at the lake in amazement.
He looked into the lake, trying to see through it, but made a startled discovery that, no matter how clear the water was, he could not perceive what its depths contained. It seemed to have a strange power, blocking external attempts of people peeping and investigating.
Han Shan nodded, and with a wave of his sleeves, a current of spiritual energy poured into the lake, causing a hurricane to roar and waves to roll. As the waves rolled, Mu Chen’s gaze suddenly froze. This was because he had seen that, when the great waves rolled, there seemed to be gleaming white bones in the lake!
“That is the carcass of the Treasure Beast…”
Han Shan looked at the bare white bones, a grave expression on his face.
“What do we do next?” Nine Nether asked.
“The lake here looks clear, but it contains the will of the Treasure Beast, from when it was alive. Once contaminated, it will certainly cause a backlash in our spiritual energy, so we can’t go deep into it,” Han Shan warned.
“How do we get the treasures then?” Ink Blade asked, puzzled.
“Using spiritual energy to trigger hurricanes, as this can help blow up waves to reveal the bones of the Treasure Beast. Then, as long as you draw on your willpower to summon the bones as a bait, you would be able to sense the myriad of treasures within the lake. Of course, whether or not we can sense such powerful artifacts will depend on our respective opportunities,” Han Shan explained.
Understanding finally dawned on everyone, as they realized now what they had to do in order to obtain the treasures. Mu Chen stared closely at the lake.
Even if the lake had the ability to conceal one’s perceptions, he was still vaguely aware that, in the depths of the lake, there seemed to exist some extremely powerful mysterious fluctuations.
That was not the existence of a living being, but was more reminiscent of the fluctuations from Divine Artifacts. Thus, within the depths of the lake, there must be a Quasi-Divine Artifact!
Blazing anticipation surged in Mu Chen’s eyes, but whether or not he could actually sense the Quasi-Divine Artifact and summon it out, all depended on his luck and opportunity. He hoped this journey would not end up an entirely fruitless endeavor.
After all, having undergone such a gruelling journey, it would be a true pity to fail to obtain a Quasi-Divine Artifact!

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.
