The Great Ruler Chapter 605
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
The black column slammed down as if a demonic dragon were roaring, carrying a terrible power that even the heavens could not tolerate. Under the direct gaze of countless eyes, it crashed into the wind dragon’s gigantic body with immeasurable force.
Boom!
A deep blast coupled with the collision hammered on everyone’s eardrums as it rang through the sky. Immediately afterwards, indescribable storms raged. Even the shimmering battle stage, which looked as if it were made from gold, suffered tiny cracks from such a strong attack.
The battle stages were obviously made of special material, which was no doubt extremely strong. Even the pros who had overcome the difficult Spirit Stages could cause little damage to the battle stage. However, the impact from this battle clearly did, showing how powerful Mu Chen and Liu Qingyun’s attacks were.
Roar!
The terrible wind rampaged and the green wind dragon broke out with a shrill roar. The green light, originally dazzling, became suppressed by the black light.
The look on Liu Qingyun’s face had also slightly changed.
Crash!
Mu Chen was calm and composed. He held out his arms as if he were actually holding the Great Meru Demonic Pillar. He then waved his arms down, and the pillar crushed all the air around it.
Boom!
The green wind dragon could not withstand the frightful power of the demonic pillar after all. With the force of the attack, the dragon flew backwards and shattered into a million pieces. A green light shot backwards and formed itself into a green halberd that fell into Liu Qingyun’s hands.
Liu Qingyun gripped the Divine Wind Halberd tightly, but the terrible force that came with the weapon still made him stagger backwards. He only finally came to a stop after using spiritual energy.
“Hmph,” Liu Qingyun grunted under his breath. His spiritual energy surged into the halberd and with that help, the halberd shook off all the invading demonic power. He looked up to see Mu Chen standing at a distance before him, the gigantic demonic pillar floating above. Demonic force billowed from the black pillar, as if it were the pillar of a demon king.
“What a weapon…” The many chiefs of the Spiritual Academies stared at the Great Meru Demonic Pillar in slight surprise. They naturally could feel the astounding amount of demonic force coming from the Great Meru Demonic Pillar. What’s more, the pillar seemed to have more shocking origins. The deep and ancient aura of that pillar was certainly not something that just any Divine Artifact could match up to.
However, the Great Meru Demonic Pillar appeared to be under a seal at the moment. Had it not been, Liu Qingyun’s Quasi-Deity Tier Divine Wind Halberd would have suffered serious damage.

Countless onlookers marveled at the battle. It was no wonder that these eight teams had emerged from the numerous Spiritual Academies to compete here in the finals! Their power was truly frightening. For their age group, that could be counted as one of the highest levels of confrontation.
“I see why even Ji Xuan has his attention on you…”
On the battle stage, Liu Qingyun’s gaze stayed on Mu Chen. His eyes were ice cold and he slowly tightened his grip on the Divine Wind Halberd. He knew that if he were to completely defeat Mu Chen, he needed to attack without reservation.
Whew.
Liu Qingyun took a deep breath of cool air and with that, his eyes gradually began to glow with an emerald light. Green spiritual power poured out like a sweeping river, covering the world in the blink of an eye.
The green spiritual power filled the air, seemingly quiet and gently flowing like a stream in the sky. However, it was the kind of quietness that made a lot of students with good perception feel something different.
They could feel chilly waves spreading quietly in the sky.
Those waves of green spiritual force gathered as if to form blades, and exuded an indescribable sharpness, even to the extent of slightly distorting space.
At the same time, a very strong sense of overpowering spiritual force spread out on the field.
Because the people watching had their share of experiences in spiritual force oppression, they raised their eyebrows. This level of spiritual strength definitely belonged to someone who had passed through the Three Grades of the Spirit Disaster. This Liu Qingyun was indeed worth something.
“Mu Chen, you are really good.”
Liu Qingyun’s body slowly ascended off the ground. Surrounded by the majestic green spiritual force, his green eyes fixed on Mu Chen as if he were summoning tornados.
“So, to show that I think highly of you, I will defeat you with the strength of our Wind Spirit Clan.”
Mu Chen’s gaze stayed on Liu Qingyun. He could also feel the fierce waves that lingered around Liu Qingyun’s whole body. That spiritual force pervaded all corners of the area like blades.
The spiritual force cultivated by Liu Qingyun was different from ordinary spiritual force. His was clearly more aggressive. It was obvious that the martial arts he practiced were of no simple background, either.
“That’s the spiritual force of the Wind Spirit Clan. It is said that only the people of the Wind Spirit Clan can cultivate that. The attack power is so dominant, that ordinary spiritual force is just no match for it.” Some chiefs of the Spiritual Academies nodded as they watched in the sky.

Generally speaking, only after one is promoted to the Supreme Realm will his spiritual force undergo a revolutionary transformation. Prior to this, most people’s spiritual force was of the same level unless they went through some special cultivation practices. As for those cultivating practices, they were all secrets of the different clans, which outsiders had no way of knowing.
Therefore, if ordinary people fought against these clans, they would be at a great disadvantage in terms of spiritual force. If an ordinary person wanted to gain the upper hand, they would need to use several times more spiritual force before they could suppress the special spiritual force.
“The special spiritual force of the Wind Spirit Clan…” Mu Chen mumbled and narrowed his eyes. His hands suddenly began to form a peculiar seal, the seal of the Great Pagoda Art.
The Great Pagoda Art was a mysterious method that his mother had left for him. It was so deep, that even the present Mu Chen could not fully understand the contents. However, judging from the spiritual force cultivated from practicing the Great Pagoda Art, this method did not have a simple background.
Since Liu Qingyun wanted a match of spiritual force, Mu Chen did not mind trying. So was the Wind Spirit Clan’s spiritual force stronger, or was his Great Pagoda spiritual force even better?
Boom!
The blended black and white spiritual force, along with the formation of Mu Chen’s seal, suddenly erupted from Mu Chen’s body like a tide. The black and white spiritual force, like yin and yang blended, flowed through the heavens.
Compared with Liu Qingyun’s fierce wind spirit force, Mu Chen’s Great Pagoda spiritual force did not appear too aggressive. A sense of mysteriousness filled the air as it quietly made its way.
“Is he going to do his Great Pagoda Act?” Outside the battlefield, Ling Xi’s beautiful eyes brightened as she witnessed the scene. Ever since she gave the Yin volume of Great Pagoda Art to Mu Chen, she had yet to see him display the complete Great Pagoda Art.
She knew the Wind Spirit Clan was a famous clan that had its place in the world, but when compared to the ancient clan that Aunt Jing belonged to, it would just pale in comparison.
Looking at the majestic black and white spiritual force behind Mu Chen, Liu Qingyun felt slightly tense. Although the former’s spiritual force did not seem to be very special, he could still faintly sense some unusual fluctuations.
Moreover, his own spiritual force started to waver, as if it had met with a scary enemy.
This spiritual force that Mu Chen has cultivated also seems like something unusual? This idea flashed through Liu Qingyun’s mind, but he did not think too much of it. He did not believe there was any way for Mu Chen to have spiritual force that could counter the spiritual force of the Wind Spirit Clan!
“No matter what you’ve got, I will win this match!” Liu Qingyun bellowed. In this confrontation between their two teams, his match was a very important one. Mu Chen’s team also had Luo Li, who would definitely win. The others may have been of similar levels in terms of power, but their chances of winning were not high, either. The two youths named Shen Cangsheng and Li Xuantong were both very strong. So unless he defeated Mu Chen, it was impossible for his team to advance to the top four.
He must win!
Liu Qingyun looked completely solemn now. He breathed out a white cloud of air and his hands formed a seal. He could no longer hold back!
“Mu Chen! Try this, if you can!”
Liu Qingyun formed another seal with lightning speed. The green spiritual forces behind him suddenly swept out and, as if turning into countless beams, gathered and transformed into a large and complex light pattern in the sky that was about a thousand feet wide. Those light patterns looked like Spiritual Arrays, yet there were no fluctuations that a Spiritual Array should possess.
Puh.
Liu Qingyun spat out a mouthful of blood essence directly into the huge array of light.
“Divine Wind Art, I pray for the presence of God of the Wind!”
Looking solemn, Liu Qingyun actually bowed down in front of the huge array of light.
Whoosh!
As Liu Qingyun knelt, sudden and terrible winds started raging between the heavens and earth. The audience looked on in astonishment at how tornados and storms formed and rampaged, releasing their terrible destructive power.
Mu Chen’s gaze, however, settled on the huge array of light, where green light suddenly shot up. In that glorious light, a huge green shadow started to slowly condense.
With the emergence of that green light, an indescribable sense of coercion suddenly filled the world.
In the sky, the chiefs of those Spiritual Academies could not help but be stunned at the change. Some stared at the green shadow and murmured, “To actually summon the spiritual shadow of the ancestor of the Wind Spirit Clan, the Wind Ancestor… That boy from the Northern Heaven Spiritual Academy is going to be in trouble.”

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.
