Monster Pet Evolution Chapter 399 – The White Monkey
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
Outside of the Jinsha Region was what had once been the Jinsha Kingdom before the Cataclysm, because there was a prominent desert in the Jinsha Region—the Golden Sea Desert.
The sea of sand in the Golden Sea Desert was rated as a fabulous place to go. The golden sand was soft, fine, and smooth, as if it was made out of gold.
The Golden Sea Desert occupied close to a third of the Jinsha Region. Moreover, tourism was one of the flourishing industry here.
However, after the Cataclysm, the number of tourists had decreased gradually. On the other hand, there were more and more monster trainers and monster hunter groups who came by to explore the Golden Sea Desert.
According to the information received, there were three main clans in the Jinsha Region—the official force that represented the allied government, the sacred Lotian religion, and the Golden Hands.
Among the three of them, the official force and sacred Lotian religion were the closest. Many of them in the official force were either pseudo-believers or true believers of the sacred Lotian religion. However, there were plenty of fanatic believers. Those fanatic believers weren’t allowed to become official personnel. The difference between the true and fanatic believers was that they would produce different results in handling given tasks.
Compared to the Lotian followers, the reputation and scale of the Golden Hands were weaker. After the Cataclysm, especially under the sacred Lotian religion’s suppression, the Golden Hands had suffered difficulties in expanding their clan.
Although strange laws had prohibited them from completely eliminating the Golden Hands, there would definitely be plenty of petty games being played under the table. Due to the suppression faced in the local areas, the Golden Hands were wretched. Therefore, they started to spread fire throughout nearby areas.
They had stirred up innumerable issues in the areas nearby, which raised hatred for them. The Golden Hands were known to have a few smaller strongholds, however, their main strongholds were hidden in the dark.
“But how did they manage to hide from everyone? There’s no way they could hide from everyone underground. It’s not like they were only a multi-level marketing team with dozens of people.”

According to the information, there had once been people who found numerous suspicious individuals with strange pasts living in Harrington Town. Furthermore, after an in-depth investigation done by a spy, something was found to be wrong with the whole town. The town could possibly have been an important division of the Golden Hands.
Of course, not everyone in the town was a part of the Golden Hands. There were normal civilians living there. The members of the Golden Hands had infiltrated and mixed with the civilians. Through this way, they could prevent other forces from attacking them with large weapons.
Gao Peng took out a detailed hardcover world map from Silly’s bag. He flipped the pages and compared his current location with Harrington Town’s location carefully.
“This should be it…” Gao Peng came out with an answer in his mind.
“Gao Peng. Are we going to kill everyone in the town? I think I, Goldie, alone will be enough,” said Goldie in a savage way while popping up its head.
“Huh…” Gao Peng’s expression went dull.
“Why are you being so cruel?” Gao Peng patted Goldies’ feet. “There are innocent civilians there. Please don’t say anything like that ever again.”
“Oh…” Goldie nodded.
“We only need to separate the members of the Golden Hands from the innocent civilians.” Gao Peng was trying to teach the familiars about his philosophy.
“An eye for an eye” will always be the way we, the Gao family, handle tasks.
The familiars were listening attentively to Gao Peng’s talk, like little kids sitting next to each other, while eating apples. Gao Peng was growing more excited as he talked.
Da Zi, which laid in the front row, moved hundreds of its small claws unsettlingly. “Here comes Gao Peng with his signature skill again…”
A town with white-roofed houses suddenly appeared at the edge of the horizon.
“Gao Peng, there are houses in front of us,” Flamy immediately reminded Gao Peng.
“At last, there are other people here.” Gao Peng closed his mouth sadly. He cleared his throat and tried to recall the desert language he had learned in the past.

The people in the Jinsha Region and the Golden Sand Region communicated in Desert Language. Gao Peng was good in academics and possessed strong memory skills. He had also learned a few foreign languages on his own.
As they approached the town, Gao Peng found that the town was empty. There were “scars” on the white walls and also moss growing there due to the humidity.
“Hoo… Hoo… Hoo…” Gao Peng’s arrival had rattled the “owners” of the house. A group of white monkeys ran away frantically from the windows and doors.
While they were running away, some of the monkeys turned around and glimpsed Gao Peng. Their expressions went stiff like they were humans, and they ran even faster when they saw Stripey beside Gao Peng.
Some of the monkeys were wearing panties. Because of their tails, the panties didn’t fit them completely, making them look weird. And some of the monsters looked quite funny because of the colorful shirts they were wearing.
[Monster Name]: White-spotted Herbivorous Monkey (Herd)
[Monster Grade]: Normal (Excellent)
[Monster Attribute]: Water
[Monster Level]: 5-19
[Monster Description]: A type of monster that likes to imitate humans. Its favorite thing to do is wear human clothes. It possesses average IQ, and is active and full of energy.
“There’s smoke coming out of that house,” Gao Peng looked at one of the chimneys. Green smoke was billowing out from it.
“Do these monkeys belong to someone as pets?” Gao Peng got down from Stripey’s back and walked towards the house with a few familiars.
“Squeak… squeak… squeak…” When the White-spotted Herbivorous Monkeys saw Gao Peng moving closer to the house, some of them that were fleeing turned back to him. They grabbed the edges of the roof with all four limbs and screamed fiercely at Gao Peng.
Some of the more aggressive monkeys managed to suppress their fear and picked up bricks from the roof and threw them at Gao Peng.
The Desolate Frost Lion raised its head, and the cold air surrounding the brick in mid-air suddenly froze. With a flash of blue light, the brick was broken into pieces and thrown back at a higher speed!
The monkey that threw the brick instantly screamed in agony. It held its bleeding head and ran away hastily. It was so terrified that it even fell down, stepping on nothing while it was trying to run away.
Gao Peng didn’t pay attention to the bluffing monkeys. He continued to walk forward.
The house the smoke was coming out of had its windows, doors, and a gray iron gate locked. Moss was all over the floor in front of the door. It had rained here not long ago, and the moss on the floor was greener than ever with the moisture of the rain.
Gao Peng courteously knocked on the door thrice. Knock, knock, knock.
There wasn’t any response coming from the house. Probably the owner had gone out. Gao Peng was upset. The house owner didn’t open the door for him, and he couldn’t just break into the house.
It wouldn’t be a problem to break into the house if it didn’t belong to anyone. However, what if there was actually someone living there…?
“Hello? Is anyone home?” Gao Peng asked patiently.
After some time, an old man’s voice came out of the house. “No one…”
Gao Peng paused.
“Oh. I thought there was no one in the house. Thanks a lot.” Gao Peng spoke with a loud voice.
After a few seconds, a voice came out of the house again. “You’re welcome.”
Gao Peng signaled to the White Steel Bladed Beast with his eyes. It received the signal and nodded.
The next moment, the White Steel Bladed Beast disappeared and the iron gate was broken into pieces. Through a hole made in the door, Gao Peng could see a fat white monkey lying cozily on a sofa with squinted eyes. Its body was as fat as the Orange Cat. It opened its squinted eyes as wide as it could because it was shocked by the arrival of Gao Peng and his team. It showed a lively surprised expression in its eyes.

The Legend of Ghost
This is a quick novella origin story to one of fan-favorite characters in the ZERO universe, Sam Dobbs, a.k.a. Slade Gardner, a.k.a. the Ghost. I wrote it for current ZERO series fans, after many insistent, fervent, teary-eyed demands. Still, I think it pretty much works as a stand-alone, so I'll post it here. (He gets the name Ghost later, not as part of this story...this is just the why he decided to do what he did, being slightly insane and all.) Lots of easter eggs for current fans. 15k words total, chapters will be approx. 2.5k each. Oh, and if you get turned off by crazy, hyperintelligent antisocials being crazy, hyperintelligent antisocials, this isn't the story for you. ;)
