Monster Pet Evolution Chapter 166
Gao Peng didn’t stay at the dormitory. He moved in with Old Ji straightaway.
Old Ji was living in a large villa that was about one meter away from the Southern Sky Group’s headquarters. It was located in a very convenient location because the Southern Sky Group had constructed several highways that went directly to the city center.
After chatting with his grandfather, Gao Peng went downstairs with Liu He.
They took the elevator to the human resources department.
In the human resources department, Gao Peng met someone unexpected.
A man in his 30’s dressed in black.
When he saw Gao Peng, he quickly walked over. He completely ignored Liu He and looked at Gao Peng with a look of relish. “Young master Gao, I’ve been too presumptuous in the morning.”
In Gao Peng’s data frame, the man’s status was shown as [Healthy (Calm)].
This caused a large ruckus in the human resources department.
A large number of workers there were shocked. All of them knew who the man dressed in black was. He was the head of the Southern Sky Group’s marketing department. He was at the same level as Liu He, the head of the human resources department.
He was a very calm person. Gao Peng looked at Cao Xiang, who had his head lowered. News of him bowing down to Gao Peng would definitely spread throughout the entire Southern Sky Group.
He had definitely thrown away some of the respect others had for him. But in truth, he had not lost anything at all. Cao Xiang was very good at grasping the correct timing to do things.
Gao Peng was actually somewhat confused. He wasn’t angry because of what happened that afternoon. If Cao Xiang hadn’t come and apologized to him, he probably would’ve forgotten about it.
Wait a moment… Gao Peng suddenly felt shocked. A department head had suddenly come to him, bowed to him, and apologized. This was very uncool. His identity as the chairman’s grandson had been revealed.
Gao Peng felt that this wasn’t a good thing.
Gao Peng did not know why he felt that way. After all, he hadn’t experienced office politics yet. This was just too high profile for him. It made him look like he was some sort of strongman. A department head apologizing to him in public right after he came.
This was his first day at the Southern Sky Group, after all.
Gao Peng walked forward two steps and lifted Cao Xiang up. He said warmly with no hint of arrogance, “Department head Cao, you must be joking. It was just a small matter. In fact, what you are doing now is making me even more nervous.”

Cao Xiang got up and said that he would buy him a meal. He then left.
Gao Peng was paying attention to Cao Xiang’s emotions. Besides being calm and experiencing a slight sudden shock during the conversation, he did not display any other emotions, such as hatred.
He didn’t know if it was because Cao Xiang was very good at controlling his emotions, or he was actually this calm of a person.
However, Gao Peng’s identity was revealed through this incident.
When he looked around the department and saw the expressions of his future colleagues, Gao Peng felt tired.
Liu He did not anticipate this incident would occur. He thought for a while and said to Gao Peng, “How about this. You go to Baiye District and handle recruitment there. It is a bit of a mess over there, but in terms of management, you will have an easier time there.”
Gao Peng nodded. He just started here, so he would just do as Liu He instructed him.
…
Baiye District was a district in the northern part of Yuzhou City. It was relatively remote, and most of the buildings there were old. Some of the old wires passed through the gaps in the houses, and the electric poles stood on both sides of the road. There were layers of advertising on the poles.
The air on the street had a foul stench. Gao Peng furrowed his eyebrows. There were big sacks of black plastic bags at the corners of some of the houses. It was a hot day in June, and Yuzhou city was like a steamer.
The stench of the garbage spread very far. A large number of flies were flying around the garbage bags. When pedestrians passed by, the flies would spread and fly around.
Every shop on the street had their doors wide open. They couldn’t stand this ridiculous heat. They had to absorb the relentless heatwaves.
“It seems to be a bit hot.” Gao Peng wiped the sweat from his forehead.
“It is much better now. In the past, before the Cataclysm, Yuzhou City would become a giant steam basket! It is because the Yangtze is right next to the city. Summers here would be wet and hot. It is hotter indoors than outdoors. After the Cataclysm, the amount of forest near the city grew, and the Yangtze also got bigger. The summers now aren’t as hot as before.” Next to Gao Peng stood a spectacle-wearing man. He was a senior worker from the human resources department who had been sent along as Gao Peng’s assistant.

Gao Peng nodded. It wasn’t just Yuzhou City. Before the Cataclysm, the summers were hot in every part of the nation. This could be counted as a small benefit of the Cataclysm. At least the summers weren’t as hot anymore.
“Young Master Gao, we are about the arrive. This is the Southern Sky Group recruitment department in Baiye District.” Wang Liang nodded his head and bowed. With his golden spectacles hanging on his nose, he looked like a modern-day henchman.
Gao Peng was speechless. “Don’t call me Young Master Gao.”
“As you wish, Young Master Gao.”
Gao Peng didn’t bother correcting him anymore. He had already corrected him a few times while on the way there.
He left Da Zi and Stripey with his grandfather for two days. He couldn’t take so many familiars with him all the time. Because Da Zi was the only familiar that had been passed down by his parents, Da Zi was extremely happy.
In the beginning, Da Zi was not happy. He wasn’t happy that his master didn’t want to take him along even though he was his master’s first familiar. It took Gao Peng a long time to comfort Da Zi before he was willing to go with his grandfather.
This is the master’s grandfather!
His Grandfather!
Dumby was Gao Peng’s current strongest familiar, so of course, he would accompany Gao Peng. The five-meter-tall figure stuck to Gao Peng like glue wherever he went. On Gao Peng’s shoulder was the green Silly. On his right was a fat crane that was hopping along.
Although Flamy was still a bit fat, he did not look like a penguin anymore. At least he somewhat looked like a crane. His fat body, shiny feathers, and thick neck all made him look like the spoiled son of a rich man.
“Actually, Baiye District is one of the districts in Yuzhou City that… is lagging behind economically,” Wang Liang whispered to Gao Peng. At the same time, he also observed Gao Peng’s facial expression when he told him that information.
“How far are they lagging behind?” Gao Peng asked. One couldn’t tell whether he was happy or angry.
“A lot of people died during the Cataclysm. The social makeup changed drastically. Many people here are not able to adapt to the changes.” Wang Liang lowered his head and sighed.
“Why is this place called Baiye? It is because the people who were waiting for jobs came from all sorts of professionals and industries before the Cataclysm. Some of the people were unwilling to resign themselves to their situation, so they worked hard and left this place. The ones that remained were…” Wang Liang laughed. What he implied went without saying.
Gao Peng nodded and looked around him. There weren’t a lot of pedestrians in Baiye. He hadn’t seen many pedestrians while walking on the streets.
They turned a corner in front of them. Wang Liang pointed to a two-story building and said, “Young Master Gao, this is the Southern Sky Group’s branch in Baiye District. It is responsible for the human resources management in this district.”
Gao Peng’s attention was drawn to a hall opposite the building. There was a large awning in front of the hall. A dilapidated flap extended from the hall to the outside. A large black fan kept making a loud, Buzz, buzz, buzz.
Under the awning, there were people sitting down and lying around. It was crowded with people. Their clothes were old and their hair messy. They were there to rest. To get some air.
Sometimes, someone would walk into the hall or come out of the hall. People inside were moving around. Many were frowning, and they looked like they had a chip on their shoulder. The way they walked look like they were afraid of stepping on a mine. They moved around very hesitantly.
“What is that?” Gao Peng was somewhat shocked.
“Oh, that is Baiye City’s recruitment hall. The people inside there are Baiye’s best.” It was unclear what kind of tone Wang Liang was speaking with.
“Baiye’s best. What is that?” Gao Peng was somewhat suspicious. The people inside didn’t look like they were the best at anything.
“It’s just sarcasm. Many people here have lost loved ones, their houses have been destroyed, or they are unwilling to sign the Blood Contract. They think it is the curse of the devil. Who the hell knows. They are just trying to get by. They live their life one day at a time.” Wang Liang shook his head.
