Battling Records of the Chosen One Chapter 212: Reemergence of RFS (Reaching for the Stars)
The sturdy middle-aged man was Lu Zhong, a military practitioner who had just retired from the empire's battlefront.
He had a deep temperament, as a battle-seasoned fighter, with a strict style of fighting. Thus, the moment he joined Azure-light Pavilion, he was valued and became an important follower as Chang Henshui.
He had originally disapproved of the operation tonight and thought that a teenager in the realm of Human-gang didn't deserve him to assassinate in person.
However, after a head-on fight with the teenager, he found the teenager at ease when facing the strike from him. He then suddenly realized that the teenager was indeed different, especially at the moment.
The teenager had dodged the hidden danger a step ahead of time while he didn't even notice it at all, which made Lu Zhong subconsciously feel shocked and become grave.
The strong power of the teenager in the realm of Human-gang exceeded his expectations. He even felt he was threatened!
But, as a veteran in the battle, he responded to this so quickly by blowing a whistle at the time when he noticed that Lin Xun hit the wall to escape.
Buzz~
A wisp of strange sound seemingly made by a Xiao (a vertical bamboo flute) arose and abruptly spread over in the dark stormy evening.
That was a signal for help!
Afterward, Lu Zhong took a deep breath and chased after Lin Xun toward the direction where Lin escaped with the dark golden spear in his hand.
If the other practitioners saw this, it would cause a stir. As a powerful practitioner in the Earth-gang Realm, Lu Zhong unexpectedly sent out a signal for help, which was a strong proof that he also felt great danger in the pursuit of Lin Xun!
…
In the meantime, a gray figure, which was rather obscure, lay prostrate on the top of a towering building more than 3,000 meters away from the place where Lin Xun met Lu Zhong.
The figure was almost invisible to everyone because of the stormy night.
"What a powerful little thing! He's much stronger than the ordinary Earth-gang-realm practitioners in the perception of soul. It's so unbelievable…" murmured the gray figure when sitting up.
His voice was ghastly weird and chilling as a viper hissing.
When a flash of dazzling lightning passed across the night sky all of a sudden at the time, you could see clearly that the gray figure was a young man with dreadfully pale skin and long cheeks.
His eye pupils were abnormally grayish-brown. His lips were as thin as blades, and seemed heavily rouged. Wisps of gray spiritual light surrounded his body, making his breath barely detectable.
What was the most terrifying was the longbow in his arms. It consisted of skulls at the size of fists, with its bowstring as red as blood, releasing a breath of ferocity.

He was Residual Wind!
A creepy assassin who loved walking in the dark and was totally loathed and feared by many practitioners of large forces in Mist City.
Residual Wind felt a little surprised that the two rounds of assassination targeted Lin Xun both ended up with failure. He experienced for the first time that it was even more difficult to kill a Human-gang-realm teenager than an Earth-gang-realm practitioner.
It was unusual!
"This won't happen again, your little thing. You'll die the next time I launch the attack…"

As he spoke in a muffled and chilling voice, he stood up, threw a glance at the distance, and rapidly coasted in the night sky like a bat. He silently flashed in the rainstorm in a strange arc.
…
Lu Zhong ran forward by following Lin's breath in the stormy evening.
As time ticked away, he gradually frowned, for the heavy rain made him barely possible to detect Lin's breath that was obscure.
He even doubted that Lin had broken out of the encirclement and fled successfully by this time.
He seemed to feel something right at the moment. He thereby stopped suddenly and looked at one house on the side of the street.
The door of the house closed tightly, but he still incisively sensed that a much familiar breath hid therein.
He stomped on the ground, and his body like an arrow rose to the sky without hesitation. A ray of dazzling spiritual light gushed from the dark golden spear and chopped the house.
He planned to use the force to dismantle the house and force Lin Xun to come out!
Boom!
As soon as he made a move, the door was abruptly smashed into pieces, and hundreds of arrows were fired out therefrom and lit up the night suddenly like the burning sunglow.
Burning Sunglow Crossbow!
Lu Zhong narrowed his eyes and remained calm as before. Bang! Bang! Bang! He waved the spear to successfully stop those arrows coming at him.
The power of the crossbow was so strong that he, even in the Human-gang Realm, was forced to take a few steps back with his Oi and blood rolling inside his body even if he blocked this round of arrows.
When he just found his feet and split the last arrow, he instantly heard a saber's roar out of the blue.
Misty and ethereal, the roar, like the sounds of nature, seemed powerless but made his mind blank. A devastatingly desperate scene unfolded before him that stars fell down in the eternal night and everything was on the verge of destruction as if the doomsday ws on its way.

What was this?
He felt scared, and his sense, which was developed by years of war, immediately made him feel the fatal danger hanging over him.
Under the stimulus of such a danger, he abruptly shouted and brandished his spear to slash everywhere.
Boom~~
The air was in disorder, and then the exceptional scene scattered into pieces like a piece of paper. All the illusions disappeared accordingly except for a ray of saber light.
Like from the eternal night, the saber light pierced through the chaos and unstoppably slashed at him.
Puff! Lu Zhong only felt the pain all over his body and couldn't help screaming in pain. His chest was torn open with his blood gushing out as if his internal organs were crushed.
Subsequently, he was blown away and hard hit the rainwater-covered ground like a drowned mouse.
"Is… Is… Is this the Will-Insight Power!?" asked he in terror.
His pale face was full of unbelief. The strike filled with unimaginably magic power was so similar to the Will-Insight Power that only those legendary practitioners in the Tao Insight Realm could own!
Lin Xun showed up at the moment and walked to him.
"No! No way! How could you own such kind of matchless power since you're just in the Human-gang Realm?"
The scene was so terrible a blow to Lu Zhong that he almost got crazy. As a matter of fact, he had been in a state of panic.
As an Earth-gang-realm practitioner, he was severely injured and even dead because of the strike from a teenager in the realm of Human-gang. How could he live with it?
What kind of strike was that?
Lu Zhong still trembled and felt scared at the thought of it.
However, Lin Xun stayed calm from start to finish and didn't give a damn about Lu's abnormal emotion. He suddenly stopped about 10 meters away from Lu Zhong.
Bang!
A series of arrows were fired out of the left sleeve of Lin Xun and enveloped Lu Zhong.
Lu Zhong, an Earth-gang-realm practitioner, couldn't be looked down on even if he was heavily wounded. Lin Xun thereby chose the crossbow, which was the best option, in case Lu Zhong pounced on him again before death.
When Lu Zhong screamed in pain, his whole body was pierced by numerous arrows and looked like a sieve, and he fell onto the ground dead with his eyes wide open.
Swish!
As Lin Xun was about to relax with relief, noise caused by a tiny fluctuation arose in the air. Subsequently, his expression changed immediately, and he dodged aside suddenly.
Puff! An arrow soundlessly brushed against his shoulder and stuck into the ground, leaving a bottomless hole on it.
It was that son of a bitch again!
Lin Xun felt angry about the tingling pain on his shoulder. This was the third time that he had been ambushed by the same guy who was like a ghost following him and made him feel disgusted.
Unlike the former two times, the hidden enemy didn't make a stop when the arrow failed to kill Lin Xun!
Swish! Swish!
Slight noise arose in the air again before Lin Xun could stand steadily. Two arrows from different angles soundlessly hurtled at him trickily and ferociously with precision.
Lin Xun remained exceptionally calm in the instant. He huddled himself up like a meatball, sprang from the ground, and rushed at a house on one side of the street all of a sudden.
Puff! He felt the tingling pain on his back as if a sharp cone punctured his skin, and his blood gushed out.
Lin Xun staggered, rolled up on the ground like a gourd, and rushed inside the house.
However, he wasn't safe yet!
He heard a series of noise first. Subsequently, a round of arrows as dense as drumbeat pierced through the air, easily penetrated through the walls and dashed inside.
The small house seemed to be shrouded in the rain of arrows with the holes left on the walls.
It finally collapsed.
Dead silence reigned there after the rain of arrows, and only the heavy rain poured down, washing the broken walls and debris.
Residual Wind showed up in the rain, came to the ruins, and stood there in silence.
His grayish-brown pupils glowed with abnormal luster, and his gaze drifted around the ruins.
When he decided to suddenly ambush Lin Xun, he had locked onto the surroundings of the house. Thus, he was sheer sure that Lin Xun couldn't escape from here.
In other words, Residual Wind believed that Lin Xun definitely died in the rain of arrows.
"You should force me to use all my tricks. Your little thing can die without regrets…" murmured Residual Wind.
He walked into the ruins, because he needed to cut Lin's head off to claim his reward.
He quickly dragged a corpse out of the ruins. To his surprise, the body was a middle-aged man with a panic expression on his face, who was covered with arrows and beyond recognition, instead of Lin Xun.
Damn it!
Residual Wind changed his look suddenly.
Boom! A blade came out under the ruins, shining with the earth-shaking luster as if a star rose from the earth.

Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
