Chapter 229: 229
Chapter 229: The Elder In Cell 99
This big bunch of keys slowly floated out from the guard’s pocket…
Although a martial warrior had Force in his body and could move objects that were some distance away, he would never be able to lift an item with such ease.
If that wasn’t the case, the martial warrior would have already noticed it based on his acute senses.
So…
Spiritual power!
Lin Zhan and the others’ eyes widened in surprise. A lightbulb lit up in their minds, and these two words jumped out almost simultaneously.
Before this, they were wondering what method Wang Teng would use to escape from the cell. Unfortunately, he kept them in suspense and just said that he was highly confident. He asked them not to worry.
Now, they finally knew that this was the method he was going to use!
They were flabbergasted.
This fellow is a monster. It’s fine if his cultivation speed is frighteningly fast. But, his spiritual power is awakened too.
They suddenly realized that they had never understood Wang Teng entirely.
How many trump cards was he hiding?
Wang Teng didn’t have the time to care about their thoughts. At this stage, he had no choice but to reveal his spiritual power. There was no point in hiding it anymore.
He enveloped the bunch of keys with his spiritual power so that it wouldn’t make a single sound. He controlled the keys and let them fly towards him.
Finally, the keys landed on his palm.
Success!
Lin Zhan and the others secretly heaved a sigh of relief. In their nervousness, they had clenched their fists tightly.
There were many keys, but it wasn’t difficult to find the right one. The cell number was labeled on the keys.
Wang Teng inserted the key into the keyhole and turned it gently…
Click!
The noise wasn’t loud, yet everyone held their breaths uncontrollably. They stared at the guard, who was sleeping soundly, without blinking. At the same time, they listened to the sounds around them.
This was so exhilarating!
Wang Teng had managed to keep his calm throughout the ordeal, but now, he also felt a little nervous.
Luckily, this light noise didn’t wake anyone up.

Actually, there weren’t many prisoners in this prison. Those that committed minor crimes wouldn’t be locked up here. Those with serious offenses had already been executed, so the cells around them were mostly empty.
Wang Teng slowly pulled the door of the cell open. Lin Zhan and the others immediately gathered around him.
Wang Teng was just about to execute his Wave Invisibility and dark Force when his body tensed up abruptly.
“Little brat, come to cell 99 and let me out!” An old and hoarse voice sounded beside his ear without any warning.
Wang Teng’s heart almost leaped out of his chest. He couldn’t help but curse in his heart. At this moment, all his emotions could be condensed into one word—F**k!
What else could he do?
All kinds of thoughts flashed through his mind. But, it was of no avail. He felt extremely frustrated.
“What happened?” Lin Zhan and the others asked when they noticed that he had suddenly stopped walking.
Wang Teng used voice transmission to tell them what happened helplessly.
Their expressions turned gloomy too. They felt so depressed that they wanted to vomit blood.
Accidents always caught them when they were unprepared!
Who would have thought that a life-threatening situation like this would happen after they had come up with such a great escape plan?
“What should we do? Should we release him?” Liu Yan asked through voice transmission.
“We don’t know what kind of person he is. If he is a ruthless and evil criminal, we will be committing a grave mistake by letting him out,” Yan Jinming said.
He wasn’t a saint. Everyone understood the hidden meaning behind his words. He was worried that the other party was an evil and extremely powerful person. At that time, even if they escaped from this prison, they would be entering another hell.
“We don’t have a choice. Let’s get him out first,” Wang Teng replied using voice transmission.
Lin Zhan and the others knew that this was their only way out, so they didn’t object.
Wang Teng felt his way around the prison. He hid in the dark and knocked the guard unconscious first. Then, he headed deeper inside.
His expression turned more serious as he walked further in. This was because he realized that cell 99 was the last in this prison.

The person who was locked up here must be extremely powerful!
Would it be a blessing or a calamity when he released this person?
He was already standing outside the door of cell 99. Through the gaps in the metal door, he could see a figure sitting cross-legged at the corner of the cell. His hair was hanging loose and his back was hunched.
“You’re here!” The old and hoarse voice sounded beside Wang Teng’s ear once again. It caused his heart to skip a beat.
He had already activated his Wave Invisibility skill and his dark Force. Yet, the other party could still discover him?!
Wang Teng felt that he had landed himself in huge trouble!

He sighed. He found the keys for cell 99 and opened the door.
In these final few cells, only cell 99 had a prisoner locked up in it. The other cells were empty, so he didn’t have to worry about someone seeing him.
Wang Teng entered the cell without a sound. Then, he looked at the figure whose hands and feet were locked with thick chains. For some reason, he found this scene a little familiar.
Ren Woxing!
Are you Sect Leader Ren?[1]
Wang Teng wanted to find the keys for the chains. However, the figure suddenly raised his head, revealing a face full of wrinkles. At the same time, his voice echoed beside Wang Teng’s ears once again.
“Don’t waste your effort. The keys to the chains are not there.”
“How do I release you then?” Wang Teng frowned and asked using voice transmission.
“Come over. Follow my instructions,” the elder said.
Wang Teng stood rooted in his spot. He didn’t move.
“Why? Are you afraid that I will kill you?” The elder laughed eerily. The laughter reverberated in Wang Teng’s mind.
“Of course, I’m afraid. Looking at this formation, you must be extremely powerful. Look at my thin arms and legs. I’m definitely not your match. Who knows? The moment I release you, I might go to heaven immediately,” Wang Teng replied.
“You are quite interesting, little brat. There are very few people in the world who admit that they are afraid of death.” The elder smiled and continued, “Alright, I will make a martial arts oath. If you release me, I will not kill you. If not, I will get struck by lightning and die a terrible death until none of my bones remain.
“What do you think? Is this enough?”
Wang Teng was slightly convinced. He trusted the elder a little.
He had heard of the martial arts oath before. This thing was a little mysterious. Some people didn’t believe it and went against their oath. None of them met a good ending.
Thus, in this martial arts era, you needed to be extremely careful when making a martial arts oath. Normally, no one would go back on their words.
Of course, if the other party wanted to die, there was nothing one could do. You could only admit that you were unlucky if you met a maniac.
“What should I do?” Wang Teng walked forward.
“I know that your spiritual power has been awakened. There’s a rune array on the chains. I’ll explain the method to you. Follow my instructions and find the node. Use your spiritual power to damage it,” as the elder spoke, he pointed a few nodes to Wang Teng.
Wang Teng didn’t hesitate anymore. He congregated his spiritual power into needles and stabbed them into the nodes.
A flash of white light was seen. The runes on the chains disappeared slowly.
The happiness on the elder’s face got thicker and thicker. When Wang Teng destroyed the last node, he grabbed the chains with his hands and squeezed lightly. The chains turned into a pile of scrap iron.
“Very good, very good. You did very well!” The elder stood up and patted Wang Teng’s shoulder. He praised Wang Teng three times repeatedly.
If he wasn’t in a cell, he really wanted to laugh out loud.
[1] Ren Woxing is a character in a martial arts novel. This character is very powerful.

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
