Complete Martial Arts Attributes Chapter 7

Chapter 7
After practicing sword skills for some time, Wang Teng placed the sword back in the weapons room. He then focused on his fist skill.
The student practicing sword skills shook his head when he saw this. Martial arts relied on quality, not quantity.
It was better for Wang Teng to choose one skill instead of practicing two skills for a short time. In the end, he wouldn’t be skilled in either.
“This newbie is hardworking, but he’s a little stupid.”
1
Wang Teng didn’t know that someone had called him stupid in his heart.
Even though he practiced his sword skill only a few times, he felt that his understanding had increased a little. The results were not bad.
He turned around and saw the tall and muscular figure standing at the side with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
It looked like he had been standing there for a while.
“Teacher, when did you arrive? Why didn’t you say something? You frightened me.”
This was the instructor who had taught Wang Teng the ninth set of radio exercises yesterday evening. Now, he was staring at Wang Teng so intently that he felt goosebumps on his head.
“Young man, I have been watching you for a while. Your fist skill is not bad.” The instructor gave Wang Teng a thumbs up.
“Thank you for your compliment.”
Wang Teng felt embarrassed. He continued, “Teacher, I’m Wang Teng. How do I address you?”
“My name is Peng Hai. You don’t have to call me a teacher. You can just call me Senior Brother Peng,” said Peng Hai.
1
“Senior Brother Peng.” Wang Teng reacted naturally. Then, he asked, “Do you always come so early?”
“I’m not talented. I’m twenty-plus years old, but I’m still merely an advanced stage martial disciple. I can only work harder.” Peng Hai was a little upset.
For an instant, Wang Teng didn’t know what to say.
“Hahaha, there’s no need to feel awkward. I’m just running my mouth. Wang Teng, you are smart. As long as you work hard, I believe that you will become a martial warrior within three years. All the best,” Peng Hai encouraged him.
Three years?

No, three days was enough!
2
This was what Wang Teng thought. But on the surface, he just nodded and replied, “Senior Brother Peng, I will work hard.”
“Okay, I will be going to the third floor for my practice. There will be another advanced stage martial disciple in charge of guiding you today. Of course, if you have any questions, you can come and look for me,” said Peng Hai.
“What a devoted senior brother!”
Wang Teng exclaimed when he saw him walking up the third floor.
More and more students had started arriving now, making the scene lively.
“Senior Brother.”
“Good morning, Senior Brother.”
“Senior Sister, you look beautiful today!”
…
Friends greeted each other before starting their personal training. Time was precious for everyone, so they couldn’t afford to waste a single second.
Wang Teng stared at the students and suddenly felt that they looked like sheep walking on two legs. There was an endless amount of fur on their bodies.
3
“Great!” The corners of Wang Teng’s lips lifted slightly, and he gave a fatherly smile.
Once the sheep were fat enough, he could kill them—wait, he mustn’t kill these good-quality sheep. He needed to cherish them so that he could collect fur from them continuously.
3
As everyone started practicing diligently, all kinds of attribute bubbles dropped down. Very soon, the lobby turned into a bubble sea, and Wang Teng happily swam in it.
“I love wool. Let me collect some wool…”
He didn’t dare to sing this song aloud, afraid that he might get beaten to death. Thus, he just sang it in his heart and quietly collected the attributes.
If there were notifications now, it would be like this:
Dropped Strength*2, Speed*6. You picked it up. Your strength and speed have increased!
Dropped Basic Fist Skill*2. You picked it up. Your Basic Fist Skill has increased in proficiency!
Dropped Enlightenment*1, Physique*3. You picked it up. Your enlightenment and physique have increased!
…
More people were training on Saturday as compared to the night before.
Wang Teng had underestimated the number of potential attribute bubbles. Or rather, one could say that he underestimated how hardworking everyone was.
The harder the students trained, the higher the probability of them dropping attributes.

It was like squeezing milk. The harder one squeezed, the more milk came out.
5
An entire day passed just like that, and Wang Teng really became an intermediate-stage martial disciple.
His strength, speed, and physique all had reached the standard of an intermediate stage martial disciple. He was now a bona fide intermediate stage martial disciple.
Furthermore, he had reached the small achievement stage for his Basic Sword Skill, Basic Fist Skill, and Basic Footwork!
Based on proficiency, the understanding of a battle technique could be split into a few stages: basic understanding, well-versed, small achievement, big achievement, mastery…
At the well-versed stage, the martial disciple would be able to unleash the power of the battle technique. The small achievement stage would have an extra advantage, with the power at least doubling.
If he reached the big achievement stage or even mastery, the power of the battle technique would increase many times.
Besides that, Wang Teng had also received a Basic Blade Skill and pushed it to the well-versed stage.
1
All in all, it was a good harvest today.
In the evening, at dinner time.
The students were all famished after an entire day of practice. They packed up and slowly left the training lobby.
This chapter is scrapped from readlightnovel.org
Wang Teng was reviewing his gains in a corner.
He held the black steel sword in his hand and moved around by combining the sword skill with footwork. He waved his long sword and cut the air with it.
The youth, who was practicing his sword skill this morning, had just returned his sword and was walking out from the weapons room.
While walking past Wang Teng, he glanced at him unintentionally.
“This… this…”
He was dumbstruck. His jaws almost dropped to the floor as he rubbed his eyes furiously. He suspected that he was having an illusion.
“He isn’t at the well-versed stage. No, this is the small achievement. This is definitely the small achievement!”
His own sword skill was still at the well-versed stage. Although he hadn’t reached the small achievement, he knew what it felt like.
How was that possible? In the morning, when he saw Wang Teng practicing, he was just a novice. His sword skill was extremely crude.
Only a day had passed, and he was already at the small achievement stage!
Was this a joke? It must be a joke, right?
Was there really such a genius in this world?
He was starting to doubt himself. In the morning, he mocked this young man and had called him stupid. Thinking back, it felt like a sick joke.
1
“This is crazy, crazy.”
The youth shook his head with a bitter smile as he dejectedly walked out of the training lobby.
1
Wang Teng didn’t notice this person’s existence at all. He was wholly focused on practicing his blade skill, sword skill, fist skill, and footwork. After the session, he felt invigorated.
“Pant!”
He let out a long breath. Wang Teng then placed the weapons back in the weapons room.
The lobby was almost empty when he walked to the underground parking lot. Along the way, he pulled out his attributes panel.
Enlightenment: 28
Physique: 52
Strength: 455
5
Speed: 185
Battle Techniques: Basic Fist Skill (small achievement), Basic Footwork (small achievement), Basic Sword Skill (small achievement), Basic Blade Skill (well-versed)
“I made great progress today!” Wang Teng smiled happily as he drove home.
In the house, Li Xiumei was cooking as usual. Smelling the strong meat fragrance wafting out from the kitchen, Wang Teng’s stomach started growling.
“Mom, what good food are you cooking today? It smells delicious!” he walked into the kitchen and asked.
“Your dad specially asked me to buy some star beast meat for you,” Li Xiumei smiled and replied.
“Really? My dad is willing to spend the money?” That was unexpected.
Star beasts were animals that had mutated due to the influence of the Force. Since the Force was born from the universe and the stars, these beasts were named star beasts.
Their meat was highly nutritious. Normal meat couldn’t be compared to them. Hence, they were very expensive too.
“It smells amazing. Let me have a bite.”
He looked at the braised meat on the table and started salivating. Wang Teng couldn’t control himself anymore. He picked up a piece of meat and placed it in his mouth.
“Oh my god, this is delicious. Mom, your cooking is fabulous.”
“Are you a hungry ghost? Look at your smelly sweat. Hurry up and take a shower.” Li Xiumei chased him out of the kitchen.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
