Chapter 1678: Senior Supreme Venerable
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
Jiang Chen was one of the youngest people to try out the test on the Supreme Venerable Stone. He was also one of the ones with the lowest state ranking.
However, he had come out on top according to the amount of attention he’d received. And this was basically only because of the conflict that had arisen between the beauty Li Churan and him.
Shen Liu, the new Junior Supreme Venerable, stood with his hands behind his back. He was looking down at Jiang Chen, full of pride.
Although he hadn’t gotten the result he’d wanted to get, he certainly didn’t think Jiang Chen would achieve anything greater.
But he certainly didn’t mind seeing Jiang Chen make a fool of himself. He was going to find that very entertaining.
In the crowd, Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster was smiling malevolently. He couldn’t wait to see everyone’s shocked faces, which he was sure were going to come very soon.
“Humans are so interesting.” This Extraordinary Supreme Venerable of the Monsters was acting on behalf of the Monster race of the Endless Continent. He felt free here, not as restricted as he was when he was among Monsters.
…..
Jiang Chen put his hand on the Supreme Venerable Stone.
“One! Two! Three…”
Some people started to count immediately.
Those who didn’t qualify would usually be sent flying within three seconds.
However, when those people had counted to three, their voices suddenly got very quiet.
It was because an unexpected thing had just happened to the Supreme Venerable Stone.
A golden light had emerged from the dark surface of the stone.
Everyone’s hearts started beating wildly. As citizens of the Sacred City, this was a familiar sign for them. It predicted the appearance of an Extraordinary Supreme Venerable.
Even Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster, who had been expecting that everyone was going to get a shock, couldn’t help but open his mouth wide.
However, the golden light didn’t get brighter. It dimmed down instead.
Not until then did Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster feel relieved.
But none of the others could stay calm. Even though the golden light had not exploded, it still meant Jiang Chen had the strength of Supreme Venerable.
If it was below Extraordinary Supreme Venerable, it was certainly Senior Supreme Venerable.
Exactly!
Two lines emerged on the Supreme Venerable Stone very soon.
“Senior Supreme Venerable. First.”

“Oh, my!”
The whole crowd was shocked when they’d seen the result clearly. Some people were holding their heads with both hands, as if they felt they were going crazy.
“Ha, ha, ha, ha.”
Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster laughed at those people’s reactions. He felt joyful. However, while he was laughing, he also felt shocked.
He had thought about the possibility that Jiang Chen would be graded as a Senior Supreme Venerable. That was why he was laughing because he had anticipated the result.
However, the First that followed Senior Supreme Venerable seemed incredible to him.
“So, I underestimated him too.”
Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster had told Jiang Chen he was at most a Senior Supreme Venerable or a top Junior Supreme Venerable when they had been chatting earlier.
However, to his surprise, Jiang Chen turned out to be the number one among Senior Supreme Venerables!
“He is really convincing indeed.”
Jiang Chen had lost a practicing body while fighting an extraordinary Wizard, so the strength he’d just exerted was one-third less than his normal strength.
That was also why Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster had underestimated him.
Taking his hand back, Jiang Chen found a shining token that looked like a stamp at the center of his palm. He didn’t feel any pain and he could use his hand just like he normally did.
“May I know your name?”
At the moment, no one was laughing at Jiang Chen anymore. They just felt curious about him.
“Jiang Chen.”
Once they’d heard the name, it had the same effect as the first-ranked Senior Supreme Venerable had had.
Numerous people looked as if they’d seen a ghost.
“Jiang Chen, Leader of the Heavenly Palace?”
“Jiang Chen, who fought on the Alien Battlefield?”
The news about Jiang Chen’s return had spread as a rumor, but very few people had seen him with their own eyes.
“Isn’t he…?”
All of a sudden, people threw Jiang Chen a glance and then they threw Li Churan a glance. At the thought of the incident that had occurred just now, they smiled maliciously.
Li Churan and Shen Liu had been up on a high horse long before Jiang Chen’s arrival. After all, one of them was ranked fourth on the Beauty List and the other was a reincarnated Sovereign Soul.
However, the guy they’d despised and been rude to had turned out to be Jiang Chen.

“Ranked fourth on the Beauty List, so what?”
“Ye Xue, ranked first, was Jiang Chen’s woman.”
“There was also something going on between Jiang Chen and the Red Cloud Venerable, who was ranked second.”
“And rumor had it that Man Tianyin, ranked third, had betrayed the Sovereign Spirit Palace for Jiang Chen’s sake.”
“Ranked fourth on the Beauty List? It was an open question whether Jiang Chen would be interested in her at all.”
“It’s impossible! There must be something wrong with the Supreme Venerable Stone!”
Shen Liu had been disappointed in his own test results, and now he was finding that he couldn’t accept the gap between Jiang Chen and himself at the moment. He strode forward and put his hand on the Supreme Venerable Stone once again.
However, one couldn’t take another test until a certain interval of time had passed.
Consequently, there was no reaction from the Supreme Venerable Stone.
“Hateful!” Shen Liu finally lost his temper in exactly the way a Divine Recluse would. He said unhappily, “How is it possible that you defeated a god?!”
“Here it comes…”
This scene reminded the onlookers of an incident that had happened several months ago.
Jian Yi from the Heavenly Sword Continent was graded as an Extraordinary Supreme Venerable. All of the warriors from all the powerful races on the spot believed the Supreme Venerable Stone had chosen wrong.
“Fight with me. If you can take me, it means I’m not qualified.” At this moment, Jiang Chen said something similar to what Jian Yi had said.
As to whether the results would be similar as well, they all needed to wait and see.
“Okay!” Shen Liu didn’t give it too much thought. He flew into the air and adopted the strongest defense he could adopt to resist Jiang Chen’s sword attack.
The weird thing was that Jiang Chen didn’t seem to have any intention of flying up to fight him. Instead, he grasped the handle of the Heaven-Punishing Sword with his right hand.
He did not even look at Shen Liu. Instead, he stared at Li Churan, who was traumatized at the moment, and smiled mysteriously.
Then he unsheathed his sword and threw it into the air.
The Heaven-Punishing Sword flew up and whooshed at Shen Liu.
“You are really underestimating me.” Shen Liu was irritated at getting such treatment.
The flying sword was even more casual than a sword movement without force. Besides, it had been thrown from so far away, while at the same time Shen Liu had turned to his strongest defense. It was really an insult for him.
“I’m being merciful to you.” It was exactly because they were so far apart that Jiang Chen had the time to speak before the Heaven-Punishing Sword hit its target.
BOOM!
The Heaven-Punishing Sword chimed like a thunderbolt the minute Jiang Chen had finished speaking. The Du Tian Holy Thunder, like a ko of thunder, broke out. It snarled from the sword blade.
Shen Liu was scared out of his wits. He turned to the Armor of Divinity, which the Divine Recluse was very proud of, and crossed his arms over his chest.
In an instant, the Heaven-Punishing Sword hit him.
The Heaven-Punishing Sword, without the accumulation of force, was not too powerful. But it was powerful enough to knock Shen Liu down.
The blade crashed into the Armor of Divinity with a loud noise. Shen Liu lost control of himself. He swung his arms backward.
The onlookers immediately understood what Jiang Chen had meant. This attack didn’t hurt Shen Liu too heavily. It had only caused a minor wound.
The Heaven-Punishing Sword fell away after it had successfully hit its target. It whooshed across the sky and fell into its sheath automatically.
“Remember, don’t bring shame on the human race ever again,” Jiang Chen said to Li Churan.
He was proud to be a human, despite the fact that the race used to be weak and had many defects and natural weaknesses. Actually, this was exactly why this race had countless possibilities.
Then, ignoring Li Churan’s facial expression, Jiang Chen and Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster left the Sacred City.
“You surprised me once again. Did you do this intentionally?” Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster exclaimed.
“If I’d done this intentionally, you would’ve reacted the same as those other people,” Jiang Chen said mysteriously.
At first, Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster didn’t believe him, but at the thought that it was Jiang Chen who’d said it, he felt he had to believe it. Then he asked, “So you could be an Extraordinary Supreme Venerable?”
“Maybe. My state will have a breakthrough soon.”
“From the preliminary stage of Martial Arts Saint to the middle stage?” Stepping Heavenward Venerable Monster doubted how big the influence of this breakthrough would be.
Jiang Chen smiled without replying to him.

The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.
