The Legendary Rebuilding of a World by a Realist Demon King Chapter 39
The Beating of the Enemy General, Gabak
And that was how I spent the brief moment before departure.
The army of Deprosia had invaded Eligos’s army from the west, as was promised.
“And how are things going?”
I asked Eve.
She began to read the report from our Slime spies.
“Deprosia dispatched a company of knights and three groups of mercenaries. About two thousand men in all. Eligos’s western force is only seven hundred. We can expect Deprosia to be victorious.”
“How very grand. I would like to command such a number of soldiers one day.”
I admitted. Then I asked her,
“But Eve, why are you here?”
We were traveling on the road to Eligos’s castle. I was currently on horseback.
And Eve so happened to be riding behind me.
“I am your maid-cum-strategist. How could I not follow you to the battlefield?”
“But I wanted you at home…”
“I believe Gottlieb is more than ready for that task.”
I couldn’t exactly deny that. Besides, I needed a personal servant.
And she was much better than your average goblin.
And so I decided to leave it at that.
It was all business now.
“How many soldiers await us at his castle?”
“Usually there would be over one thousand, but Deprosia has attacked him from the west. And we will come from the south. Furthermore, there will be an eastern invasion. The castle will surely be quite unguarded.”
“From the east, you say?”
“It seems that he has made an enemy of a Demon King there.”
“I see. What an absolute fool he must be. Perhaps there is something wrong with his head.”
“Yes. To attack the dwarf settlement and then anger such a great kingdom as Deprosia at the same time as he began hostilities with an eastern and western Demon King. Completely inept.”
“Could he really be so foolish?”
“Well, he had previously been known to be rather wise. It seems that things only changed once he took Sharltar, the Necromancer, under his wing. After all, Sharltar had succeeded in expanding his lands and bringing him wealth at first. Though, it came with the ire of his neighbors, as we know.”

“A genius in business then. Well, at least in terms of purchasing. However, losing the trust of others will result in an unfavorable end. We can certainly learn from his bad example.”
“Indeed. And Sharltar is no longer here to aid him. This is a great opportunity.”
“I agree. While we have expanded, our army is still small. We would not have had a chance had circumstances not become so favorable to us.”
As I talked with Eve, Toshizou joined the conversation.
He was riding a horse as well, but he did it very poorly.
He hadn’t always been a warrior, and he disliked horses.
Even Jeanne, the farmer’s daughter, was a better rider.
“By the way, Master Demon King, do you have a particular scheme for taking the castle?”
“Scheme?”
“A secret plan. Something similar to when you defeated Demon King Sabnac.”
“I hope you won’t expect something outrageous like that from me every time we go to battle. But well, I won’t say that I have nothing.”
“That is good to hear, Master. I am all ears.”
“Of course.”
And so I was about to tell him, but Eve stopped me.
“Master, I don’t think we have time to talk so leisurely.”
What did she mean? But I didn’t ask. Eve was not one for idle talk, and she wouldn’t have interrupted me without good reason.
There was always a reason for everything she did.
I looked ahead at what she was looking at.
There was a dark shadow.
I had to use ‘Farsight’ to realize that it was an army of goblins.
I counted them as well, but there were barely even a hundred.
Still, they had clearly not come here to befriend us.
I suppose Eligos was sending his weakest first.
But why so few?
We outnumbered them easily.
Was he underestimating us? Or did he lack manpower?
It made me hesitate. Toshizou offered a suggestion.
“A hundred goblins, eh? Perfect. Master Demon King, will you give me the honor of drawing first blood?”

“I don’t mind if you do.”
“Unless we somehow struggle, I would like it if you could leave it to me and my unit.”
“I’m not fond of taking chances.”
“Taking chances? I don’t know what you mean. I won’t play with them. We have a great chance of winning this.”
“Fine.”
“Thank you. I have no complaints about the roles we’ve been given. Jeanne’s led the humans and I the monsters. But they are very different. I want them to gain as much experience as possible.”
“I see. Well, do it then.”
“I will.”
And then Toshizou dismounted.
He struggled with that too. He was more comfortable walking.
And most of the monsters walked as well. There was little point in their general alone being on horseback.
Toshizou may have been a Hero, but that couldn’t always beat numbers.
Realistically speaking, the bigger army usually won…
But of course, there were always exceptions.
While Toshizou didn’t charge, he moved slightly ahead of the monsters.
First, he cut open a path of blood. Then came the werewolves, then the orcs. The strongest monsters moved at the lead.
That was good.
Werewolves were brave, but orcs were cowardly.
They would take flight the moment the tide turned against them.
In fact, the goblins were very similar in nature, and there were few in the enemy ranks who were running away.
With every step, Toshizou’s sword cut into their formation, with every second step, he shattered more of it.
As a spectator, I was starting to believe this would be an easy victory, but was quickly given a reason to doubt it.
Now, an especially large goblin was coming out from the back.
It was a hobgoblin.
Along with this name, these monsters came with both intelligence and incredible strength.
It looked like a demon covered in blood as it swung its metal club in the air.
It was like something out of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
“Ah, ah! I am the greatest of Demon King Eligos’s Heroes. The Blooded Demon. Gabak!”
Toshizou seemed very amused by this little speech.
And so he introduced himself in return.
He enjoyed the spectacle.
“And I am the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi, Toshizou Hijikata. They call me the Demon Vice-Commander. Due to certain circumstances, I now work for Demon King Ashta. But I was among the strongest in my country.”
Gabak heard these words and laughed boisterously.
“I have never heard your name or of your country. And why do you say ‘among the strongest’ and not ‘the strongest’?”
His reply was rather amusing.
“Ah, but we have a long history. Very long. There are plenty of swordsmen who are above me. Kamiizumi Nobutsuna, Ashikaga Yoshiteru, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and many others.”
“That is quite admirable.”
“Yes, but even in such numbers, mere goblins are nothing against my sword. You should not underestimate us.”
“I am not a goblin! I am a hobgoblin!!”
Just as he began to rage, his words were silenced.
His body would never move again.
This was because his head was flying through the air.
Toshizou caught it and showed it to the other goblins.
“I have taken his head. Your general, Gabak”
He shouted threateningly.
The voice, and the truth of the death, was enough to rapidly weaken their will to fight.
They scrambled to be the first to flee.
And once that happened, the battle was truly over.
I watched them run.
“Will you not chase after them?”
Eve asked. The answer was no.
I told her why.
“We could diminish their numbers if we wanted, but I would rather have them return to the main army and wreak havoc on their morale.”
“I see. That is very perceptive of you.”
Eve said with a bow.
“Now, this was an easy enough victory, but how will things go after this? I hope things will continue to…”
I muttered as we reorganized and continued our journey up north.

Long Island
Long Island was not the first virtual reality game or to say a VRMMORPG. Not the one which changed the world and became a legend. No, it was made when there were lots (quite a few) of virtual reality games already on the market. Each game had its own unique AI feature, its own unique adventure, promising everyone a chance to become King, if not a God. In such a time Long Island was made. Just a little different, just a little unique. A normal guy was starting his own adventure, in life and in game.Note - Adding a cover made by someone I connected through wattpad: @DameCarnelian. Just a warning, it is not an accurate representation. The ship is not Raka's ship so avoid any confusion in that regard.

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.
