The Legendary Rebuilding of a World by a Realist Demon King Chapter 35
City Building Shift
There were reasons that construction was able to finish so quickly.
The first was that Gottlieb was a brilliant leader and planner.
The second was that the architects that worked under him were very capable.
The third was something that I had devised.
In this world, construction was generally done through human strength. There were no machines such as bulldozers or cranes like they had in some other worlds.
But on the other hand, this world had demons.
And so I gathered together some ingredients and put them in the Klein bottle.
I had to summon people who were very big.
Giants.
There had been a merchant in town who sold fossils that were said to contain the bones of giants. I added those along with the horn of a unicorn.
I imagined the giant as I sent my magic into the bottle. The ingredients went in, and a famous monster came out.
Rarity: Gold Rare ☆☆☆☆
Race: Giant, Cyclops
Job: Warrior
Combat Ability: 1788
Skill: Monstrous Strength
The thing that came out was so tall that I had to look up.
A cyclops that was about eight meters in height.
It reminded me of a small mountain.
They would fight as viciously as any demon on the battlefield, but they had other uses as well.
Yes, they were so large as to able to become substitutes for machinery.
Substitutes for bulldozers or cranes.
And that was a great thing to have in this world.
These cyclopes could carry large stones and materials and raise pillars as if they were nothing.
Demons tended to be proud, but the giant tribes were more simple and even preferred this kind of labor.
They silently obeyed the orders of the construction division and lay stone over stone.
There were other monsters that I summoned too. As well as those already summoned and even more humans that were hired. And so construction moved along at full speed.

The work continued for twenty-four hours a day.
Saint Jeanne frowned when she heard of this.
“You truly are a Demon King. Even the devil wouldn’t force people to work for twenty-four hours.”
“Well, neither would I. We have established a shift system.”
“Shift?”
“Eight hour work days. Each team works at different times.”
“I see. Well, that is at least fair.”
“That’s the way we are at Ashtaroth Castle. There is no overtime.”
There were eight hour shifts and a bonus for those who worked during the night.
Furthermore, I summoned many Salamanders, or fire fairies, so that the builders could work safely.
The tongues of the Salamanders kept their surroundings well lit.
There were also rest breaks during the eight hour shifts, and of course, food was provided.
Eve had selected the cooks herself and created a high calorie menu to keep the workers healthy.
And like that, three months passed.
To be precise, the city was completed in eighty-nine days.
Not all of the interior work was complete, but people now had places to live.
And so the residents seemed very happy as they entered their new houses.
Apparently, they were very comfortable, and people would bow their heads and thank me every time I walked through the streets.
“Lord Ashtaroth, it is because of you that we have a fine place to live.”
“Bless you for accepting such wanderers as us.”
“We are much more comfortable here than we were in Sabnac’s city.”
They told me.
Every time I would tell them that their words were best directed towards the planners and architects, however, the architects then told them to thank me.
Gottlieb would say,
“It was the Demon King who gave me the freedom to work as I please. He hired my architects with generous wages and increased their morale. Things would not have happened so swiftly without the Demon King.”

Eve would add,
“I happen to know that the Master has worked tirelessly without a single nights rest for these past months. Aiding Gottlieb, negotiating with the residents and managing the workers, all of this was because of my Master’s work.”
Eve lowered her head in admiration.
Saint Jeanne continued.
“Yes, the Demon King is not only adept during battle, but in governing. He is the greatest of the Demon Kings.”
I was grateful for their words, but taking them too seriously would cause me to puff up with pride.
So I accepted about half of it.
“With so many more people here now, you will make more in taxes as well.”
Gottlieb said.
“Yes, that is true.”
I looked at Eve. She pulled out some paper.
She had predicted that this subject would arise and was prepared.
That was my maid for you.
I said as much to her, and her cheeks flushed a little.
Then she coughed and read out a forecast for this period’s taxes.
Gottlieb listened to this with wonder.
“It is more than twenty times that of our old home.”
He said.
Yes, that was amazing. I would be able to strengthen my army with so much funds.
“Master. You will finally be able to make that army of humans that you have been planning.”
Eve said with a smile.
“Yes. I can now hire human mercenaries and give them weapons.”
“You will of course, allow us dwarves to make these weapons?”
Said Gottlieb.
I nodded and said I had every intention of doing just that. And so we quickly went about hiring human mercenaries.
It was not as if I hadn’t hired any before, but it was at a very small scale, due to a lack of funds.
However, that was no longer a problem.
We would not see the money for at least half a year, but with a city so big, we would also be able to borrow from human merchants.
They were all such sharp-eyed creatures.
They would not balk at the idea of lending to a Demon Lord who was expanding.
And so I had Eve procure the required funds and then set up billboards around the city.
Toshizou Hijikata looked at them and said in a low voice.
“Are you not being a little stingy?”
“It is eighty percent of what most mercenaries make, but I see no problem with it.”
I declared.
People tend to believe that mercenaries go where the money is, but such mercenaries were already hired by the wealthy countries or Demon Kings.
I could not outbid them even if I wanted to.
The only thing I could offer them was ‘insurance.’
“Insurance?”
Toshizou asked.
“Insurance for when they die or are injured. They will be granted a sum of money when they are injured and unable to fight. If they are killed in battle, their families will be paid. With such an incentive, even weak soldiers will fight bravely.”
“I see. So you have thought this through then.”
Toshizou was oddly satisfied with this. Then he added, ‘the Shinsengumi should have done the same,’ and laughed.
It was an honor to be praised like this by the demon vice-commander.
And my plan seemed to have worked. For while the people that came were not the strongest, they were all serious and looked to be of patient disposition.
I put Hijikata in charge of commanding and training them, so I could watch from afar.
I had actually wanted to be more involved, but Eve stopped me.
“The Ashtaroth Army will fail to grow if you insist on doing everything yourself, Master.”
Yes, that was true.
Gottlieb had said something similar. And so I left the training of the soldiers to my two strong generals, Toshizou and Jeanne.

2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

The Happy Village
Note: This story has ended. This is not the final version since it needs a lot of revisions, so this is a testing ground for a newbie like me. Note 2: This novel is also posted on justlightnovels.com. Surrounded by the beauty and grace of Mother Nature, there lies a little village. In serenity the villagers live without much worries except for their jobs and personal lives - after all, there seems to be no major problem at first. Everybody is happy, everybody is well. That goes the same for two girls, Neha and Sachen, who are friends since childhood, and who believe that they will stick with each other forever. But one day, the High Order of the Celestials announces that the gods are angry at the village due to the rise of sin and corruption. They will take extensive measures to ensure the village’s survival, though for the girls, things are not what they seem. A series of events will forever condemn the girls in agony and sorrow, and will tear apart their little hearts.
