Common Sense of a Warrior Chapter 99

After the meeting with Duke Maurice Grindal, I walked toward the Duke Ferring House.

Like Duke Grindal, he was at his villa in the Capital for the conference, and as such, it did not take very much time to walk there.

“Welcome, Romel-sama.”

The one who came to greet me in a calm manner was the current head of house, Bruno Ferring.

And next to him stood a woman making a gentle smile.

“My thanks for going out of your way to receive me. Bruno-dono.”

Taking his held out hand, I exchange a handshake with Bruno.

“This is my wife, Kelly.”

“My, my, for even your lady to come greet me……how do you do? I am Romel Jib Armelia. It is an honour to meet you.”

Turning towards her, I respectfully lowered my head lightly.

“Thank you for the polite greeting. My name is Kelly. It is a pleasure to meet you.”

Kelly’s smile deepened as she curtsied.

“Please, this way.”

The layout of the mansion resembled that of Duke Grindal’s house, but as there was more furniture with a wooden base, it overall gave a more gentle impression.

The place I was led to by the two of them was the salon.

“……how was your journey in coming here?”

After sitting down, Bruno started the conversation with such harmless and inoffensive chatter.

Kelly, who was sitting next to him, entered the conversation with superb timing.

And then, from the beginning to end of the conversation, we chatted with a harmonious atmosphere.

“Now that I think of it, Romel-sama. Have you drunk the alcohol from my territory yet?”

“Of course, I have. The beer from Duke Ferring’s territory is quite delicious after all.”

“I am honoured by your praise…….how about it? I have a valued one set aside.”

“By all means.”

“That is great…….well then, Romel-sama. I will guide you to a separate room.”

“I will excuse myself here.”

Soon after Bruno stood up, Kelly, who had been sitting next to him, also stood up.

“Thank you very much for this fun hour today. If there is another opportunity in the future, let us meet again.”

“That would be an honour. I would love to.”

And then Kelly left, and I went to another room together with Bruno.

The wall of the room was covered with books, and just by looking at the room, one could tell how much Bruno loved books.

“Please excuse me, it’s a rather dreary room.”

Having noticed my gaze, Bruno made an embarrassed smile as he said that.

“Not at all……you do seem to like books quite a bit.”

“Yes……I have been ridiculed as a bookworm, but that isn’t necessarily wrong.”

We sat across from each other on the sofas laid in roughly in the centre of the room.

As if to search for what to talk about next, or to sound out the other, we exchanged gazes.

Within the silence, it seemed that no matter how much time passed, there were no signs of the vital alcohol he had spoken of being brought to us.

“……seeing as you have determined it being worth hearing what I have to say, may I understand that as you approving of it?”

The one who broke the silence first was me.

Beyond my gaze was the door that we had passed through earlier.

As though to express his acknowledgment of that, Bruno gave a wry smile as he straightened his posture.

“Yes, that’s right…….the alcohol was just an excuse. I figured that it’d be best for our next conversation to be between Romel-dono and I alone. Of course, I was not lying when I said that I had a valued alcohol.”

“Is that so? ……for me, I do not have any particular problem with your wife being around though.”

Hearing those words, Bruno looked at me with a questioning gaze.

“I’m joking…….it just goes to show that there is nothing for me to feel guilty about.”

In response to that gaze, I made a bitter smile while continuing to speak.

“I see……then, Romel-dono. Let us move on to the main topic.”

Then, like when I spoke at Duke Grindal’s house, I talked about Duke Baskar’s impropriety and the signing of a treaty with Tasmeria Kingdom.

If I were to say what differed from my previous encounter, it would be that I did not question Bruno’s resolve like I did with Maurice.

Too many cooks will spoil the broth*……since Maurice had already declared that he would take independent action, there was no need for more instigation.

It was just that in order to make it easier for Maurice to move, I spun my words with the intent of sharing information regarding Duke Baskar’s matter.

“……well then, Bruno-dono. I will eagerly wait for the day that you come to visit our country.”

“Yes. Once the talks with our country have been settled safely, I shall visit. It will probably be busy at that time, but I would love to be able to speak with Romel-dono like this once again.”

“Of course…….at that time, let us have Kelly-dono join us as well. My wife will also be waiting eagerly.”

And then, I once again shook Bruno’s hand, and the discussions ended.

Translator Notes:

I wish I could say this part about Romel will come to an end soon, but I think things only go back to Melly at like…Chapter 108………*sigh*. I hope things will heat up a bit soon because I think I’m starting to get tired of translating narration about people walking through doors and looking at each other. >.
