Common Sense of a Warrior Chapter 36

First part is similar to the previous Chapter 31, latter part is new material.

“Parx-sama, welcome back.”

When I returned to the mansion, I happened to bump into elder brother.

For the time being, since we were within sight of other people, I greeted him in my guard role.

“The one saying that shouldn’t be you, but me, isn’t it? ……you went out to town again, didn’t you?”

“Uu……”

Because I encountered him while still disguised in my appearance for going out to town, it couldn’t be helped that I was exposed so quickly.

I couldn’t make any excuses either.

Even though that was precisely why I chose a route where I wouldn’t encounter anyone……how unlucky.

“Even though I told you so many times not to go out to town carelessly without bringing any soldiers with you. Since father possesses the title of ‘hero’, there are bound to be plenty of nobles envious of him. I know that you are strong, but as expected, we don’t know what would happen if a whole bunch of assassins were sent after you. If you as a guard were to fall because of something like that, it’d be putting the cart in front of the horse…….well, what’s done is done, but at least try to do it in a way so that father won’t find out.”

“……ahh……I’ve already been discovered by Gazelle-sama.”

It was a little hard to say, so my eyes began to swim.

“What?”

At my words, elder brother’s gaze became sharp.

“There was a big uproar about some noble’s daughter going missing when she went out to town……and when I found her while searching and thought to send her back, I happened to bump into Gazelle-sama.”

Lately when I was free, I would go into town.

In the past there were times when I went to town on my own, but that was only using the main street to get to the tower.

Right now, I didn’t just do that, but would also wander around every nook and cranny of the town.

When I was taken around by Kuroitsu-san, there were numerous things I saw and heart for the first time, and because of that, I felt that I wanted to learn about various things……that was one of the reasons why I was wandering.

And the biggest reason was so that the resolve within me wouldn’t weaken.

Just watching from afar atop the tower……that alone wasn’t enough, I felt.

I wanted to learn more about their way of living, and wanted to sense and experience more about them up close.

The citizens that I had always been keep at a distance up until now.

By experiencing things close up, my determination became even firmer……thinking like that wasn’t necessarily wrong.

……my wish that no one else would experience the same kind of suffering that I had.

The more I experienced near them, the stronger I felt that wish get carved into my heart.

That being said, today’s incident was a complete coincidence.

When I was exploring the town, there was a small commotion at the street corner.

Just out of curiosity about what was happening, I poked my head in, and well, it seemed that a young girl had gone missing.

Not only that, but since she was a noble’s daughter, it couldn’t be helped that the commotion became even bigger.

When I decided to search around a bit, I tried guessing the thoughts of the girl whom I had never met before……if we were the same in that we didn’t know much about the outside world, then the places that would attract my interest might……-as a result of walking around with that in mind, I found her.

The young girl who was wearing cute and simple clothing was, by the time I arrive, already being chased by men that one would probably not want to become acquaintances with.

Now that I think of it, that girl was completely silent when I was escorting her back.

……as expected, she was probably scared of my appearance when I was driving off the men.

Elder brother let out a deep sigh. Seeing his state made me feel apologetic, but even as I felt that, the sense of satisfaction from being able to rescue that girl continued to occupy my heart.

“Even though father is a general, he does like to be at the actual scene……so when that upper class noble girl was kidnapped, he probably thought that it’d be best for him to go out himself. Well, you know. Just give up and get ready to be scolded.”

“Although I’ve already been scolded……”

“Too soft. Some hard training to prevent you from going out to town is probably waiting for you.”

“Well, that’s good in its own way.”

“The only one who would think of that train as a reward is you.”

Elder brother laughed emptily, patting my head as he began to walk once again.

I then returned to my room and changed.

“……Mel. The Master is calling.”

Around the time when I had finished changing, Granny came into the room and told me thus.

“Haa……Mel. Please don’t do such dangerous things. This old granny’s body won’t hold up.”

Just when I thought she was making a strangely stern expression, she let out an extra-large sigh and said that.

……I’m always worrying Granny, aren’t I?

“I’m sorry. But, it’s just like me, right?”

When I said that exaggeratedly, Granny appeared to have given up as she let out another sigh.

“……you mustn’t keep the Master waiting. Hurry up and go.”

“Okaaay.”

I obediently listened to Granny’s words and started walking.

It seemed that Granny wasn’t coming with me, as she remained standing in her original position.

“……it is because you act in such a way that I am troubled. For me, who is supposed to be remonstrating you, to look at your figure as you walk while looking forward and think that doing that is ‘just like you’.”

Such words could be heard coming from behind my back.

It was truly a tiny, tiny voice.

Yet, at those words that I could clearly hear, I involuntarily let out a smile.

When I went to father’s room, father was sitting on a chair in the middle of the room.

Like Granny, he was making a stern face.

However, as expected, there was a remarkable difference in intensity with father compared to Granny.

“……do you have something to say to me?”

“I apologize for doing things selfishly.”

The first thing that came out of my mouth was an apology to father.

Because the fact that I had worried him was an undeniable truth.

However, for some reason, father let out a grand sigh at my apology.

“Honestly, you are……no, it’s fine. You did well in protecting Count McLain’s daughter. I am thankful.”

I lowered my head at father’s words.

“However, it is true that you went against my instructions and went into town on your own. Starting tomorrow, for one week you will be doing strict training as a punishment. Don’t think that you’ll be able to go to town for a while.”

“Yes.”

Like elder brother said, it was special training.

……lately, I’ve been going out to town a bit and decreasing the amount of training I’ve been doing.

This is a good opportunity to resume my tempering……-thinking such a thing, I turned towards father and lowered my head once more.
