Sam marched into the room.

“If you had a door, I would slam it.” She said, taking up a spot in between the open entrance and the two male otters.

Sam took a long minute, searching her two friends with her eyes.

“I can see that there’s something going on and I wanted to just spell this out. Chip, you have a crush on Sela, right?”

Chip nodded.

“And Sela, you also have some sort of affection for Chip, correct?”

Sela blushed and smiled.

“I like both of you.”

Sela and Chip cocked their heads at her.

“Do you mean like like?” Sela said.

“She means like like, you beautiful dense otter.” Chip said.

Sam grabbed the bow above her high waisted skirts nervously. The thin silky material gave a flowing look to the already sleek otter.

“I think that we could make something out of this.” Sam said.

Sela and Chip looked up right behind Sam. River loomed over her.

“I think that we make a great team, and that this conspiracy could turn into … she’s standing right behind me, isn’t she.” Sam said.

Sam turned to get a full body hug from River.

“Well that answers that.” Sam said.

“Oh you three were having a moment, weren’t you.” River said in a singsong voice.

“Well it depends,” Chip said, “Sela are you into this?”

“Provisionally,” he said, stroking his chin.

“Well I’m in if he’s in.” Chip said.

“Oooh! Are you guys finally forming a raft?” River watched in rapt glee.

“Provisionally.” Sam said.

“Provisionally.” Chip and Sela said.

Sam, Chip and Sela all joined hands.

A gruff voice came from the other room.

“If you’re all done playing raft, then can you start on dinner?”

River smiled as the provisional raft giggled.
