《How am I Supposed to Save This World with No Power?》Chapter 56: Initiation

The canteen was barren when Olivia took them through it earlier, but by the time they returned for the initiation, what could only be described as a full-on banquet had been set up along the rows of tables and long benches that lined in between. Ita did manage to wash away the most obnoxious of the mud patches in the one bathroom that was located right next to the two of their rooms. Wu offered her his jacket to at least cover it up, and Ita instinctively said no. Knowing that she's likely to change her mind, Wu held onto it before noticing her constant glances towards it from the moment they went into the canteen. "Aha! Ita! I hope our little test out there didn't dirty your dress that much!" Charlie joked, waving a hand towards the two as he positioned himself in the middle of the rows of tables. There were a pair of open spaces right next to him, one on each side. The entire canteen was filled to the brim with other students, all of them dressed in the same way with white shirts, dark trousers or dress for boys and girls respectively, and a gown with crisscrossing red and black patterns over the left chest. In comparison, Wu's in his full black casual 'adventurer' outfit as per usual, and Ita's in her white dress with linings and patches of decorative mud patches. Ita snarled at Charlie underneath her breaths, though she still forced herself to walk towards the middle of the room alongside Wu as the idle chatters slowly died down around them. All eyes were on the two, and Wu can't say he exactly enjoyed the attention. He looked towards Ita briefly, and the princess stood tall and proud with her chest puffed out and her stride tightly paced, a true mark of royalty and one that has seen enough high society social occasions. However, if the sinking feeling within Wu's stomach is anything to be trusted, then things are about to take a turn for the ominous really quickly. "I am fine!" Ita said, her hair done up nicely too and her face cleaned. She clearly noticed the special treatment when it comes to the disparity in outfits between herself and the rest of the students, though she acted as if it didn't bother her at all. "You are fine indeed." Charlie smiled mysteriously before he stood up on the bench, his boots imprinting onto the shiny red wood surface. Besides them, the crowd ushered Wu and Ita to seats right beside him, "Today! We celebrate Wu and Ita! As our new brother and sister into the big family of the Ville!" The crowd cheered as Wu instinctively looped his fingers around the cup that's already filled up. Then, everybody in the room started clapping and shouting, "Drink! Drink! Drink!" Here it goes again. Wu now wished that he had installed drug-sensing capabilities into his gauntlet, but regrets are for yesterdays as he came to learn in Season 1. The drink tasted like a mix of apple juice and vodka, strangely enough, and it swiftly changed in temperature during its journey through Wu's digestive track, leaving a path of spiced warmth behind. The crowd cheered when Ita slammed the cup down way before Wu did, and at that moment, Wu wondered what all his years of drink training at Oxford was for. In his defeat, he has brought shame upon the Somerville College, upon Oxford University, and upon the Earth and the human civilization. However, the little girl appeared to have already been drunk after a single drink as her cheeks became as red as the apples that made up the drink, Her eyes appeared unfocused, though she's stubborn enough to sit perfectly upright despite the inner turmoil. "Hah!" Charlie laughed and slapped Ita in the back as she glared back at him angrily before nearly falling forward faca-first onto the table. "Burp-When do we...burp...get our uniforms?" Ita asked, a stream of drinks leaking out of her mouth despite her deadpan look, and that was when Wu realized she's absolutely gone. Though, it was a funny enough sight. "You get it once you become a member of the Ville family, and my army. Properly." Charlie smiled, his voice slow and steady so that Wu can also hear it as clearly, "And you do that after doing the shoe." Oh no. Charlie maintained his grin as Ita stared at him. Then, the crowd started cheering and repeating the single word of "Shoe". Then, as Charlie reached down and took off his boots, Ita's eyes slowly became widened and filled with rage. "NO!" Ita screamed, jumping up onto the table and shaking her head, "I am not doing the Shoe!" "Then you mark yourself as an opposition of mine." Charlie said bluntly, "That means the Ville has no place for you." "I thought we are brothers and sisters here." Wu said, and Charlie chuckled earnestly before resting his knuckle on the table and leaning towards Wu, imposing his presence over him. "The disobedient family members need to be taught a lesson." Wu glanced around the room, and those that sat closest to Wu and Charlie's tables, clearly his accomplices in this bullshit, started booing at Ita's response. However, those who sat further away simply watched on with curiosity and...hesitation. So things aren't as homogeneous as Charlie had hoped. Wu thought, turning back to Charlie as his boot was filled up with a mix of cooking sauces, rice, fruits, alcohol, and water. Then, like a pint of beer, it was slammed onto the table. "Do the shoe, and I will grant you protection within this college, and outside of it." Charlie said. "What gives you that power?" Wu asked, drawing Ita's attention too as she gagged at the sight of the fluid mix in the boot. "Power, of course." Charlie laughed, "In this Academy, the strong rule, and the weak follow." "You don't look like the strongest." The room became dead silent, and Wu waited patiently for Charlie's response. If he had even the slightest sense of insecurity about his own power, then it is likely that he will flip out and react violently. Those that are truly strong rarely need to flaunt their strength, and Wu watches Charlie closely as he was caught off guard by Wu's response. "Thank you~" Charlie smiled, "I take that as a compliment." Wu's expression sank slightly, and Charlie turned before wrapping his arms around both Ita and Wu's neck, bringing the two together, "Don't you worry. Even in the entirety of the Academy, I still have the backing of one of the Boarded...my older sister." Ita's eyes darted open, and she bit onto her lips before lowering her head in temporary defeat. Charlie smiled with even greater satisfaction and let the two of them go, "Now. Are you ready to join my army and my family?" Wu looked at Ita as her mind forced her hand towards the shoe despite her body rejecting the very thought of drinking that disgusting cocktail. A teardrop escaped down the side of her cheek, and Charlie leaned in before wiping it away with a finger. Ita's body trembled at his touch, though she couldn't resist someone that has ties to a Boarded member. Not this soon, and not when she's not strong enough... Unlike Wu who doesn't seem to know a thing, Ita knew exactly what the Boarded represent within the Academy. Right before Ita's little fingers wraps around the boot, Wu bumbled forward and fell right on his face, knocking aside the boot and pouring all of its contents out onto the table. "Argh! Damn! I am drunk already!" Wu exclaimed as Ita watched in shock. Wu pressed himself up sluggishly as his shirt became dirtied by the rice and sauce before he hugged around Charlie and transferring the shoe's contents onto his uniform, his expressions a complete mess though his eyes sharp, "Sir Charlie! Sir Charlie! Why is the drink of the Ville so strong~" Rubbing the sauce in deeply, Wu continued probing Charlie's limits with a big drunk smile on his face, though Charlie simply held onto his hands with an iron grip and forced him back onto the bench. "Looks like we got a pair of lightweights here!" Charlie declared as the room exploded in laughter, "Let's forego the drinks for now, and eat!" Ita watched as Wu planted his face onto the table, and the fallen boot sat still on the table on its side. Later... "You thought you were smart?!" Charlie cursed, tossing Wu right into the wall of his bedroom before commanding the bricks of the wall to wrap around his hands, "You wanted to die?!" "What...do you mean, Sir Charlie?" Wu laughed as Charlie conjured up a Cast and propelled himself forward, kneeing Wu right in the stomach as the latter went ahead and vomited all over him. "Don't play drunk with me." Charlie said, backing off and swiping off the junk off his face, "I will make your days here hell. Count on it." Turning around, he slammed the door shut and left Wu pinned to the wall. As he felt for the pressure coming from all around him, a victorious smile floated up to his face. Now that his limits are found, Wu just has to calculate his next steps carefully. The rest of the party went on without much fuss, though right after when Charlie volunteered to take both Ita and Wu back to their rooms, he knew that the storm is coming. Somehow, Charlie seemed to have direct control over Ville college's internal architectural structures, and that's why he is positioned as the one in charge. If he wanted, he could literally cause Wu's bedroom to collapse onto itself when he's sleeping, though that would defeat the purpose of torturing Wu over the long run. And perhaps...there are other rules in place against him too. Sending forth a single pulse of the wave from his gauntlet, Wu broke through the bind from the walls around his right arm before blasting himself clear. After their little talk, Charlie then headed into Ita's room next door. Wu knew for certain what's going to happen, and he sat himself by the window, listening to the conversation within. "This person you know from the Boarded...who is it..." Ita asked, her voice shaking as Charlie pressured her into the corner of the bed. "Unlike that insolent idiot, you seemed to know the true power structure here." Charlie smiled, "Unfortunately, I am not in the mood of sharing for now. That information is reserved for only the best behaving family members~" Ita looked at Charlie, and she bit onto her lips as Charlie reached behind his back and took out a parcel with her uniform in it. He placed it on the table as Ita's eyes lit up in the dark. "You may have your uniform, after this." Charlie said, clearing his throat and taking off his tie, "This college, is my college. In here, I am the king, and all of you are my soldiers. You know what soldiers do with orders?" "I...I am a princess!" Ita shouted, the power surging within her when suddenly, Charlie snapped his finger and activated a Cast that was mixed into her drinks. Suddenly, a wave of disorientation caused Ita to fall backward, the glow of power in her hair completely going away as she struggled to breathe, her heart pounding. "Not anymore." Charlie smiled, "Not in here." Then, he moved forward, his hands reaching for the dirty dress of Ita before tearing it apart. A vortex pattern had formed over her flat stomach, and the pain from the Cast within Ita caused her entire body to cease up, yet her mind's still perfectly perceptive to what's going on. That was the worst part of it all. "...if you have had done the shoe, you wouldn't have had to do this. At least while you are conscious anyway." Charlie said, his eyes glowing with lust as Ita covered her breasts and looked away in tears. Then, as a figure obscured the moonlight from outside the window, Charlie looked up only to see an Orb of the Wave fired right into his face, the bright flash overwhelming everything else in the room. Ita closed her eyes at the light, and when everything settled down as the surge of power disappeared from her wave sensing capabilities, she slowly rolled up with Charlie nowhere to be found in the room. The shadow moved, and Wu jumped onto the floor before he turned and tossed his jacket towards her. "You okay?" Wu asked, looking away from Ita as she gripped tightly around his jacket and trembled in place. She held her tears and tried to wipe it away silently before swallowing hard and stilling her voice. "I am fine!" Ita said, her lips shaking before the whimpering started, "I am..."

There were 2 options: Fight the same war for countless more aeons. Shatter the Betrayer's undead legions time and time again until all was ground to dust. Because the endless legions truly never end. A hair's breath of ground in a century is enough if the war takes all of eternity. Or to choose Hope. To cast away his memories, his power, his very life. To wager everything on a chance to prevent their eventual end or to perish trying. Because if he were to return it would be with the power necessary to finally slay what remains of the Betrayer. Of the last Aspect. Only then would all things be right. And so, he chose the latter. Expect:Weak to strong quick-ish.Powerful MC reincarnates, gradually starts regaining memories.MC that is an actual character not a plot device. My original unique magic system discovered along with the MC.My original setting with mythos that have both been living rent free in my head for actual years.Opening arc will be less fast than the following story. Good writing (I think) and grammar. Upload schedulle: 2 chapters a week of 3-4k words each. I want to upscale to 3 in the future. Meant to be read in RR dark mode. For those coming here from my other stories, this is indeed a reimagining of my older story, CotM. I say reimagining because I have changed so much it cannot be called just a rewrite. Among the major changes, MC is fundamentally different in personality and background, I have actually planned the story out and changed it almost completely and I have adjusted my mythos so it no longer has as many holes as swiss cheese.
