《New Path》Chapter 53- Exploring and Finally hunting

A few minutes after disgesting what happened to them, Chris group, as well as the survivor and the military man, started once again to advance feeling no safe for staying so long in an open area even if if it seemed pretty safe the horror of the suburbs still fresh in their mind, they knew that if they were attacked the first to die were those that were evolver having at least killed a beast by chance or bravery during the last beasts' horde.
Either to protect their loved ones or just to become stronger knowing well that things would be more dangerous in the incoming days, weeks, and months.
watching at the Silver watch on their wrist all of them received information about its use, with it they were able to exchange different things from animals they killed and other things but those names were so strange that no one took the pain to memorize them as it didn't seem at all coming from Earth just by their names, so far the only useful things they found was the Energy core in the Evolved beasts body.
it worked like a universe exchange market tool, as the group of survivors checked quickly their watch they still kept attention to their surroundings the last few days of walking from the suburbs had made their survival instinct stronger even for those normal humans that had taken shelter first in the military camp the first hours of the Apocalypse.
it was during the horde beasts that some of them with tremendous luck were able to grasp anything that looked like a weapon to fight back their way out of the besieged camp as most of the beasts were focused on the evolver who had stronger energy useful for their evolution that they sensed instinctively, after that it has been a constant living in the open wide street of the suburbs for almost a day as they kept running to enter city, as they took highway so that so many people could stay as close as possible not split all over the city thank the soldiers to each side of the group of two to three hundred people grouped close to each other.
even if most of the city roads were enough large with the fact that some huge beasts could walk properly but fighting was another thing and if any of those beasts came too close they would first die from the debris of the building falling on them that being eaten alive.
Everyone wasn't sure about what to do, Chris hearing something about the bloodline limit made him feel surprised as so far he didn't meet any kind of limit and rather felt that his body became stronger each day although very slightly to make it almost unnoticed.
But he was strengthening as his body absorbed naturally the surrounding energy that he could sense being sucked through his pore and little after he could small tickle in his body as the blue points scattered in his body absorbed the energy.
" so does it do anything else no not sure though, it's just the same information I told you it works as a market system since we are unable to use it properly "
Clement who was talking with George said as a hologram list of different types of list of products appeared with a price next to it as he thought of how worked this watch and it seemed like they needed to just focus.
But with a single glance it was easier to know that most of those names weren't at all from earth fauna and flora there wasn't any image to at least explain to them what looked like the product to get a hint of what was its use.

" let's go we can't waste time we will talk about it later this night for now focus on surviving and get stronger "
I said to them my voice filled with excitement at the idea of fighting once again to feel this feeling of being able to fight in close contact with a sword that with a small error and it would be the end but the thrilling of having my brain thinking faster than my body was incredible.
looking one last time at the survivor's cortege he followed the others as they entered the alley leading behind the hotel.
As they started to advance in the now open street in parallel of the cortege of survivors from the others of the buildings, they started to look for beasts roaming around, birds cry could be heard above them from time to time but only some of them attacked and when they did, they were met with Sarah Ice cone that was smaller the size of a baseball bat and length but the control over it was incredible.
since when two birds that looked like craw with their black feather and long beak that was shining proving that if they got impaled by either the beak of the claws of the two birds they can survive except maybe Lisa's snake with his thought scales.
as they came down at high speed, Sarah's ice cone at the last seconds changed its trajectory and hitting the second bird's throat and pricing through the weak feather like a bullet rifle, and few seconds behind the first bird was killed by Emily's arrow energy piercing its eyes easily.
" yes with that I just need two to three more kill of level seven beasts and I could level. "
Emily said with excitement, in a low voice knowing that they weren't invincible even with Chris now healed and taking most of the battle burden, her past gloomy face while hunting was gone, replaced by a small smile on her lips the same could be Said of Hector that smiled stupidly with his shield slightly raised in front of him to be able to react at any surprise attack.
And it seemed Sarah wasn't the only one having made some progress as Emily started to have a stronger control and comprehension of distance and weak spot of the beasts using her Agility thrice that of a normal human ( human normal sta:10 points ) and with her strength and stamina a little behind she was able to fully grasp the path of an archer she got from the system at a small price of ten energy points.
The city was still the same as before as they continued their steady walk toward the city center once again.
and the fact that they weren't near the forest proved that they rarely met beasts able to satisfy the group's need for energy points.
" Should we go near the suburbs, it's been a long time we met a huge pack of beasts and most of the beasts in the city are close to level seven or eight but with our number we can easily win, their pattern being too predictable "
Stella for the first time since in the group proposed her idea looking wearily at Chris, Lisa, and Edward for their reaction, thinking that she didn't deserve to propose to take a risk since although she could provide support those that take most of the risk are Chris and the others.
But hearing her suggestion everyone stopped advancing her looked at Chris they planned to level up and if they wanted to grow stronger it's the only solution available for now.
It should take them two to three hours max to go from the city center to the Suburbs.
And Stella saying no one rejects her hide sighed heavily as even if The other didn't notice it she was somewhat felt suppressed by the two beasts from each side of the road looking at them and the surroundings and when Chris looked at her, and his eyes with blue iris with faint raid light in his pupil made her gulped without her knowing, she felt like if looking at beasts in human form little did she know it was another kind of bloodline pressure working instinctively on people Weaker than the owner of the bloodline.
Even more fruitful against those without bloodlines with a strong mind, or a Skill or path that helps them fight back this instinct of knowing they were prey.
...............
...............................
One hour later the group had already left the west district and passed from where they had fought yesterday the foreign invader, and were now in the business district just after crossing the city center plaza with one or two skyscrapers from huge companies.
With some residential buildings around the area of the skyscrapers, for the employee as it was easier closer to their workplace and with most of the commodities close to them with high school, college and mall a few kilometers of each other, and with the transports like tram and buses all over the city going to one place to another was pretty easy.
But now it was different unless someone was enough strong to fight alone a group of beasts or had a group to fight with him, the beasts in the city would crush them in few seconds, with most of the beasts gaining at least one meter in height, their metabolism also changed they needed to eat more than before to stay in form unless it was a prey of their level with sufficient Energy they wouldn't be satiated, so they had to fight for food and evolve further, the law of the jungle amplified By the Energy in their body that makes them want to be stronger to not be erased of the planet forever.
And crossing a street was like trying to travel one or two-kilometer at foot, having to walk in the open street now starting to be engulfed by the nature with grasses and some trees that were planted along the road becoming bigger, now the smallest tree was at least four-meter tall with thick leaf hiding the light from the buildings near them making some of the survivors still alive in their apartment to have their mood even more reduced.
they couldn't believe that not saying the sun could miss them so much, since now in the street although there was light it was barely letting sunshine pass through, like if it was afternoon unless the sun was high in the sky, which was the time when some group of survivors used to go out scavenge food and maybe kill some beasts having more visibility in the smaller alley they used instead of the open street.
And Chris and his group were one of the few groups in the city that could so brazenly walk in broad daylight.
They were still starting to adapt to the always-changing city becoming slowly a jungle in itself, and if it wasn't for the tall building leaving some semblance of landmark to know where they were or what distance they have walked, one would have thought of it as some kind of ancient ruins, at least it was intended to go that path, with how fast grasses and other plants were growing, reaching now almost their knee and covering all the road like some kind of soccer field but to a bigger scale.
And if it wasn't for Chris Energy's perception that he used from time to time as they entered a new street, to make sure there weren't some crawling insects under the grasses it would be hard to think if even they would want to take the risk.
as they already had an encounter yesterday with a swarm of insects, coming out from the sewers and other disgusting places that attacked them, and they only survived thanks to Lisa's that circled them but he paid the heavy price as they almost entered through his eyes and nose with how fast they were if he hadn't shaken his head in time.
One hour later they were able to almost leave the city skirts to enter the suburbs, meeting some group of beasts, but those beasts were different from the ones they fought within the city.
those ones quickly found the weak members of our group and tried to kill them first but With Sky and Lisa's snake protecting they could only dream to get closer.
And seeing more of their comrade dying they tried to retreat noticing they couldn't win, but with Emily and Lisa, they couldn't escape even more With Lisas's snake and Sky not too far.
But Lisa's snake and Sky were quick to eat some of level eight beasts corpses near Chris and the other, and once they were full they only took the Energy core from the body with some meat around the core as they swallowed it, but it did little to no nothing on them they were already level 7 beasts and were close to level up and after eating the part of the beasts that had still energy in their flesh and blood they only needed to have a catalyzer and a good sleep to level up.
And the other like Lester, Adrien with Goerge and Clement group didn't mind giving 50 percent, of the energies core of the level 7 beasts they killed, as they didn't have any use for them yet and also because they would have been severely injured without their help a few time during the battle.
" Are we still far from the suburbs, shouldn't we go back so far we only met the usual group of beasts dogs, rats, and other domestic beasts make me think how many domestic animals the people in this city has "
Alex complained as she hammered the head of a cat the size of leopard that was leaning to the ground in a pulp staining her clothes at the same time not that she cared, with dislocated front legs and jaw, the cat was completely unrecognizable
" Can't you already stop, what's the use of crushing its head "
Eillen who was next to her said gritting her teeth in anger, her legs were shaking barely standing on her own, as she received some brain matter on her cheeks she looked at the culprit wanting to slap the girls on the face, it was as if being soaked in blood was enough now she had to have flesh and brain matter on her, she had to take a long time yesterday in the shower to make the smell of flesh leave her body.
her Son's behind the group was looking at the scene with innocent eyes now accustomed to the scene happening in the street as he looked at surroundings buildings amazed by the scenery of the city it was not sure what was going through the boy mind after witnessing so much bloodshed, he was protected by the two beasts as he stayed with Sarah and Emily in the back like always.
And Alex seeing that she indeed went too far apologized with a wry smile scratched her cheeks embarrassingly the timid girl and the bloodthirsty one fighting fiercely against the beasts, contrasted completely like if she was two different people when fighting, and Eilllen could only sigh shaking her head helplessly accustomed to her behavior, having to fight with this kind of weapon makes the maybe the woman more violent was the only things she thought as it one the only reason she could think of.
Not that someone would complain, a normal human would have already faint from saying the sliced part of the corpse of dozen of cats and rats and lying in the grass staining it in red the fact that they didn't throw up was already a miracle.
" I don't know but too many to count and by the way why are you complaining the last two hours we killed as many beasts in one day than the last three days if we don't take into account the beasts horde "
Fred Said not too far from her gasping for air swiping the sweat and blood on his forehead, as he looked around them at the pile of corpses of beasts forming a small mountain reaching their head, and hearing their discussion, he could only agree with Eillen as he fought with Alex most of the time, he could feel her slowly change the past days.
turning his gaze at the others around him they were all gasping for air trying to not collapse using their weapon to stand up, Only Emily and Sarah weren't exhausted though one had her fingers and hands hurting after shooting constantly energy arrows and the others sitting on the ground eyes closed leaning against Lisa's snake boy next to her.
They had been fighting constantly after going closer to the suburbs as once they entered a street they would meet a group of beasts about five of them, sometimes more but it was still the same beasts' wild animals were rare but not uncommon but most of them were alone.
and the fact that there were even some cats working together made them speechless compared to the inner city district, it was like a warzone as they get closer street after street among the buildings of the city to the suburbs from which a single mistake and they could die.
and so far it was beasts of level eight with the leader of the pack being level nine they fought, and those beasts' pattern attack although almost the same than those in the city the speed and strength in their attack were so huge and precise that they had to be in constant alertness to not get sliced or thrown away with just a little mistake.
" Chris it's time to go back we can't go further, maybe you can fight stronger beasts but you will die after defeating it with how those beasts came quickly after smelling blood "
John getting closer to Chris said trying to resonate with him as even he was starting to feel difficult to breathe close to him, the aura around the young man was suffocating even though they were both normally at the same stage like if every cell of his body was telling him to not go any further, making him wonder what could be the difference between their bloodline as even while he tried to control his aura, using his energy and at the same time mixing it with his Aura to feel less pressured it felt like if he missed something.
The man who didn't notice that his Aura was slightly changing becoming more suffocating after each Battle was tattered in blood, his muscular body being more like a kind of athlete heightening 1m80 almost two-meter, he looked like a small giant with chiseled muscle not the kind of the oversized muscle of bodybuilder, with corpses of ten to fifteen cats corpses lying around him with missing part of their bodies from their head or legs scattered not far from the main body, his body covered with several deep wounds he looked like some war god.
Later did they knew that the man in question was just thinking about what awaited him once they were back at the hotel if it wasn't occupied, and with his Adrelaine still high after fighting, the idea kept coming back to him, but he was still scanning the surrounding with his energy perception one last time making sure they took care of most of the beasts around here.
But even with his regenerative ability with so many wounds even for him now those wounds were becoming normal with the way he fought the fact that he was able to take head-on about four to five level seven with the remaining being at his level he was already an anomaly to not faint for blood loss compared to each time he had fought.
It seemed like his body was becoming stronger on its own, thank to his bloodline and the repeated high-intensity fight, just like after a workout but for him, the soreness of a good workout was replaced by wounds, and each time his body healed his skin became slightly tougher and elastic at the same time to withstand the intensity to which he used he stretched his muscles to fight several foes at the same time.
As he looked a few meters in the distance one last time thinking what kind of monstrosity was lying in the forest, but with some trees now growing even in the middle of the street it was hard to discern further away from the building, the suburbs had been completely engulfed by the forest.
" Ok let's go back it's still pretty early but we need to rest and I don't want to rest in those buildings I could feel some insects roaming inside "
Sighing I could only let it go but it was still good, we made for what we came exploring the city-state and gathering enough energy points to all level up.
the group made its way back but they didn't forget to take their backpacks that they left in one building a few streets away, as they realized the intensity of beasts becoming Stronger.
And they took almost three hours to go back, after fighting the low-level beasts they were all exhausted and wanted a good sleep, and therefore if they met some strong group of beasts on their way back they would avoid unless if they could taking another path.
it had only been more than forty minutes they fought after they were close to the suburbs, but as one has to know that normally a fight between people of equal strength could last more or fewer than five minutes and unless they had endless stamina it was doomed to happen that they would be exhausted after fighting at the same intensity successively with no rest for more than half an hours.
even more with their unbalanced Stat with all them putting two to three points in strength each level and adding the remaining two points, in the Stats they thought to correspond to their fighting style than life and death fight as they experience their need after each battle.
tired and wounded after fighting low-level beasts(for their team not so for normal survivor group), and going from one street to another through the city, which now looked like a labyrinth as nature make it harder to distinguish where they are with tall trees and only a few high buildings close to the suburbs it was harder compared to the center city to find it's way back, without losing their track in the slowly growing forest.
But as they entered the city center it was even easier to find their way back since the group of survivors with the military made a path from the grasses as they stomped on them creating a new road of grass on the ancient road.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
