《Story of Vita》The Forest King? / Chapter 49

"My lord, I hope Im not getting in the way for your work. To bring you some good news, your daughter managed to tame a monster. And to give you my honest opinion, I dont think even a small army would be able to kill it." Sir knight left the dark office with sleepy eyes and with a sweaty body. The day so far for him had been tiring to say the least.
In the room, there was a shadow of a man. Softly writing with a feather dipped in ink. For a moment, it slowed down before coming to a stop. After a second however, the man continued to write on the paper. If the room was lit up, one would see the massive piles of papers stacked up around and behind him.
In Dianas room, she slept in her massive bed while hugging one of many pillows on the bed. Right next to the bed Vita squatted there without moving. You could only see the head, mane and cape while the rest of the body couldnt be seen. But from Vitas mouth, a small white ball fell out. It bounced once, twice, before stopping.
Hell yeah, the best baby ball is back! Rocky and shiny bug is here, now with controllable light levels and upgraded to see with different eyes. So now I got the 'King' body and the tiny little marble bug body. Wonderful stuff. Now, lets take a proper look at this place. Maybe find potential escape routes like secret tunnels and easy to break windows. You never know if something happens that one doesnt wanna be around to witness. Like naked old people. If I do meet any, I should put them out of their misery.
The small ball rolled towards the door before opening up. Six legs total, small mouth and big adorable eyes. Tentacles moved out from Vitas mouth and pulled on the doorhandle. The door opened without a sound and a small, white ball rolled out. Whenever a corner was coming close or when something made a noise, Vita would slow down and open up to get a better look on whats going on. There were mostly just maids or servants patrolling the halls, but none of them managed to spot Vita. Except for one maid.

This maid was clearly older than the rest, but her gaze was cold as ice. The moment she saw a small unknown creature peak around a corner, she immediatly powerwalked towards it. The creature immediately disappaered around the corner. When she got there, she saw a small ball roll away. The ball stopped rolling and it opened up to reveal that it was actually a strange bug of some sorts. It turned its head to her direction and a staredown started.
And then the chase started. There werent many moving around that early, but there were a few who got to see the spectacle of the head maid chasing a small creature. Some of the maids had even tried to stop the creature in its path but all of them failed. As if that wasnt enough, the creature would unfurl and shoot out tentacles from its mouth to knock vases and different objects out of balance. The head maid however would pick up the different objects and put them back on their pedestals.
The sound of a small group of maids and servants running around had started to wake up the people who were sleeping. Some woke up due to the noise and started complaining. Others actually saw what was going on and decided to run after the mod of people. One poor servant walked out of their room only to have a bowling ball hit them in the scrotum. The head maid didnt bother to help the man, but one of the maids behind her did while almost all of the other servants stopped moving to wince in the pain.
Diana slowly woke up, yawned and rubbed her sleepy eyes. The sun wasnt even up yet, but there was already so much noise in the manor. She smiled when she saw 'King' sleeping on the foot of the bed. The cape served as a sheet for it, but she could see its hooves poking out. She was about to run to her fathers office to show of her pet when a small ball rolled into the room. It somehow jumped up into the air as 'King' opened its mouth to let it in. Right as 'King' closed its mouth, the head maid and many other maids and servants burst into the room.

The head maid was clearly out of breath, breathing in out out heavily. When she saw the shocked expression on Dianas face, she quickly calmed herself down. She did a quick bow and looked around the room once more. She had seen 'King' and Diana some hours earlier and was still getting used to the massive beast of a pet.
"Good morning my Lady. Im sorry to have waked you from your sleep, but have you seen a small white creature go into your room?" The other maids and servants also collected their cool when they saw the young lady of the house being so rudely woken up. There was one servant who was a bit teary eyed, but other than that the crowd just seemed to be out of breath.
But when the head maid saw that Diana was still in her nightwear, she quickly shooed everyone out of the room. Although the odd creature was suspicious, it shouldnt be a threat with 'King' around. Diana looked at the group of people leave the room. It was only when the door closed that she crawled over to 'King'. The part of the bed that 'King' slept on was suprisingly enough not dirty. She looked into 'Kings' eyes as she toyed around with its horns.
"King, what was that weird ball that you ate. Is it your friend? Or is it a part of you. I know that a lot of creatures in the Worlds Tongue tend to be weird sometimes, but you arent weird. Your really cool." She continued to mumble odd things. All of which Vita didnt understand. But Vita did roughly understand it as something positive.
It was still early compared to Dianas usual sleep schedule. That together with the little time she spent asleep caused her to fall asleep next to Vita. She still held onto Vitas horn with her small hand.
Ooo, the little baby is sleeping while holding onto me. Isnt that just adorable. Im going to vomit blood from all of this cuteness.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
