《Deepest Depths》Chapter 1: Gods and Light

“Awaken, Lost One.” The soothing disembodied voice ushered.
Max slowly fluttered his eyes at the sound. He was groggy and tired but soon Max felt at total bliss. His eyes fell upon a humanoid figure of light. The light thing was sitting at ground level, legs crossed, back hunched over so that the face was able to see him. Such as a person looking at an ant. If Max was in a better state, he would be afraid of the skyscraper sized being, but he was in fact calm and collected. Max looked around; he was in an infinite white landscape. No grass, no trees, no buildings, just an endless white void.
“What is going on? Where am I? Who are you?” Max questioned.
“Be at ease Lost One, you are safe for the moment and all answers will come in time.” A voice said not coming from the light being.
Max looked around trying to find the voice. After seeing his confusion, the being spoke.
“I am talking directly into your mind. Do not be alarmed, this is just easier for me since I do not have vocal cords.”
“Obviously” Max chuckled. Why did I chuckle? He wondered. Why am I even calm right now?
The voice came again and with it came the feeling of utter bliss.
“I am using a calming effect on you currently. I have found that without it your kind tends to… Well… Freak out. I have always loved that phrase, freak out HA!”
Max couldn't help but just stare. The light was not burning his eyes, but it was so bright. Max knew that whatever was before him was something that he could not understand.
“You are correct, Lost One. I am known as Ofes, Goddess of Light and the “Heavens”. Please refer to me as Goddess Ofes. Or just Goddess. Or Light Goddess… Hmm, the mortals of Nava come from many cultures and backgrounds and thus I have many titles. Sorry for the confusion.”

Max continued to stare. After a rather uncomfortable few moments Max coughed and began to ask more questions.
“Why are you calling me Lost One? My name is Max. Also, can you explain what is going on? Where am I? I was supposed to work in the morning, but I get the feeling that that is not going to happen anymore….”
Max worked in IT for a large building, his job required him to fix technology related issues. But that hardly seemed important now.
“Max. Yes, Max Fowler. That is what the system has down for you… Alright Max of Earth, please try and remain calm while I speak. This is going to upset you, it always does. You are no longer on your planet.” She waited for Max to “freak out”, but it never came. She continued.
“Earth is unconceivable far away and by some freak accident or cosmic paradox or something…” She thought for a moment, “No matter. You are now here, currently you are in my throne room. Soon you will be on the surface of Nava, the planet that I along with my brothers and sisters preside over. I understand that Earth has no system and no gods that show themselves. You have the concept of religion and gods but nothing in fact?” The Goddess rambled along, but Max soon found himself not paying attention.
I’m not on Earth anymore? Gods? Space travel? What about my family or friends? I have to pay rent in a few days. What's going to happen with my stuff? Max’s mind was quickly falling apart as he thought about his current situation.
Goddess Ofes took notice of this and recast the calming spell. She mentally shrugged thinking; Mental magic is so handy. Max visibly relaxed and he began to speak.

“So, I am not on Earth, but a world called Nava. You rule over it with your siblings, there's something called a system.” He stopped for a moment, before adding, “Can I go back?”
“I’m not going to lie to you, Max. All of what you said is true, and it is unlikely that you will be able to go back to Earth. I’m not saying it's impossible since your existence here is proof enough that moving between those distances is possible. But it is unlikely. Hmm maybe that can be your end goal. Here.” she gestured out with her hand. The feeling of power filled the air.
Divine Quest: Getting home.
- Find your way home. 0/1
- Rewards: Varied.
“What the hell?!” Max literally jumped back only to find that the words moved with him. The quest was inside a box, a box that only he could see. A box that felt of nothing but everything at the same time. Max also could hear a low chuckle.
“Just will the box to move or resize or to simply go away. I’ve always found the Lost Ones' first experience with the system to be quite humorous.” She could see Max’s glare, ignoring it she continued to speak. “That is the system. It governs all, even me and mine. Although less compared to you and yours.”
Max moved his eyes from the Light Goddess and back to his box. Quest. A Quest. To go home. Wait… Lost Ones. With an s. Plural. Max thought.
“Are there more like me? From Earth I mean?”
“There are more Lost Ones, yes. But from Earth? No. Lost Ones are rare, maybe one every hundred years or so, but they do not have to be from Earth. There are other locations of life out there. The last Earthling died some one hundred and twenty years ago. He actually lived quite a long life at three hundred and seven.”
“What? three hundred and seven years old?”
“Yes, the system gives longer lives to those who become stronger. He was quite powerful, he could have lived another hundred and fifty, but one day he vanished, even to my eyes. He simply was gone… Maybe he found a way back? I am--” The goddess quickly went silent. She looked off into the distance. She quickly started to move her hands around to gather up the nearby power. She quickly spoke.
“My siblings have come for you. Listen well Max of Earth. Some of my siblings want to experiment on your mind and body. We cannot have that. I will leave you with a gift designed to protect you from their eyes for some time. You will also be receiving the normal “Lost One catch up pack” from the system. This will give you additional boons that will help you in the early and possibly the later stages of power. Become strong, Little One, for that is all that will protect you.” With that said she released her glowing fist, and the light took over Max’s world.

Rejected At First Sight
"Oomph!" The sound rushed out of my mouth as the door opened before I could reach the handle and my body hit a wall. I took a step back and realized that it wasn't in fact a wall, but instead a very attractive male. I looked up at his head to see a very messy, but sexy, mop of black hair on top of his head. When I looked closer, I noticed that his hair was a very deep brown that was probably often mistaken for black. My gaze traveled downward to his eyes, where I found two deep, ocean blue eyes looking back at me. My gaze travelled farther down to his crooked nose, to which I assumed came from too many fights. My eyes finally found his pink, very plump lips, which were turned into a sneer. "You have got to be kidding me!" His pink lips said in a very offensive voice. My eyes turned questioning as I looked back up into his eyes. "Whatever, lets finish this. I, Ashton Carter, reject you, as my mate." He, or Ashton, said with venom lacing his voice. He quickly turned and walked down the now vacant hallway with no glance back. Rejection? On my first day? The first person I make eye contact with at this school, rejects me. I guess that's how this school works, if the hottest boy in school rejects you, you're a nobody. So much for making friends, or mates, or whatever they call people at this school. I shake those ocean blue eyes out of my head and continue into the office to start my new life.
