XG 54 - But the advice came too late
At 3 a.m., a laptop suddenly let out a shrill alarm.
The closest to it was Ta Kei, the owner of the device. He immediately woke up from his light nap with a confused expression. Flinging his body out of the couch, he quickly checked his laptop as his sleepiness rapidly disappeared.
The gang members that were on the night patrol naturally knew where the alarm came from and were immediately worried. They send someone to go to Ta Kei to inquire about the problem while the rest continue to guard the villa.
“Motherfucker! There’s a report of human rabies detected in the Sea Lake View residence!” Ta Kei yelled as he ran out of his room with his laptop in hand. He had silenced the shrill alarm, replacing it with a soft beeping.
Tonight was Kang Xunsu’s turn to patrol inside the villa and was one of the first to encounter Ta Kei. “Report it to the boss. Have everyone tighten the security! Keep your voices down and move as quiet as possible! Keep most of the light off!”
It was understandable why they were alarmed because Sea Lake View residence was the place where they were currently staying. They were truly unlucky!
When Ta Kei reached his boss’ room, Charles Wong had also woken up from the alarm and stepped out of his room with his gun. After a brief explanation, he gave his order. “Check where it came from. Notify Madam Lok.”
“Tsk, at this time, most people are asleep and not guarding against the danger at all,” Hong Yan grouched and rubbed his twitching left eye.
Fully dressed, Lan Yan kicked her younger brother’s shin as she passed by. “Go and wear your shirt. Where’s young miss?” she asked Kang Xunsu.
“Nana is going to her.”
Nana, followed by Smoker, had rushed to Wong Xue Guo’s bedroom as soon as they heard the news, but only to find her missing. Feeling her throat stuck with rushing anxiety, Nana immediately looked around the corridor while calling out for Wong Xue Guo.
“Nana? Why are you looking for Xue Guo?” Chen Yibo, who trained himself to sleep lightly these days, had woken up from Nana’s voice and opened his door to see what happened. His room was on the second floor, a distance away from Ta Kei’s laptop so he had not heard it.
“She’s not in her room. There’s a zombie attack near our villa,” Nana said tensely as she continued looking into each room.

“She’s in my room.” Chen Yibo opened his door wider, letting Nana see Wong Xue Guo sleeping on the long couch.
Wong Xue Guo had also woken up from the noises and her hand immediately grabbed onto her sword. “What’s wrong? Are we under attack?”
Nana gave Chen Yibo a stern look but did not say anything as the time was not right. “Get ready. There’s an attack near our villa and might spread to us.”
“Do we need to start packing then?” Wong Xue Guo quickly got up from the couch.
“No. Sir had said we would not leave until Madam arrived. We will need to defend this place until then,” Smoker answered.
Wong Xue Guo’s lips twitched as she thought, ‘This is crazy!’
But she does not dare to say anything about her father’s decision, because she believes he must have his own plan that will guarantee their safety.
The young duo quickly gets dressed, not that they need to change as they went to sleep without changing into pajamas in case of an emergency such as now.
Rushing to the living room, they arrived just in time to hear Ta Kei’s new report.
Ta Kei connected the CCTV video of the street to be streamed onto the wide TV screen in the living room. “The police force is already moving, but they are still quite slow. We might need to prepare for the fight. The first sign of the infected seems to be coming from the Sui family.”
“The Sui family is the one that arrived yesterday. Did they not undergo a strict examination?” Kang Xunsu frowned.
Brother Lam snorted. “As long as money is involved, those bribed will slack off. But from what I’ve investigated, the parents are clean. The possibility lies in their newborn son that refuses to calm down. Someone said the father had to hold down his son tightly and because the mother was crying, they just think the son was influenced by his parent’s emotions.”
“Obviously it’s the son that’s infected! Shit! Those no-brainers dared to carry around an infected!” Luo Si, the eye-patched gang member, scolded fiercely. His friend quickly slapped his back and shushed him up.
“Will we lend a hand?” Smoker asked.
“No. We will stay here and wait,” Charles Wong said.
Hong Yan nodded in agreement. “Yeah. It’s none of our business. We do not need to clean up other people’s mess! We will only move when those monsters reach us!”

Wong Xue Guo half agreed and half disagreed. If they do not contain the infection quickly, they will lose a lot. But she also was not willing to have her people risk their lives because Madam Lok did not properly check the Sui family before letting them in.
From their first meeting, they could see that Madam Lok was very demanding in checking whether they meet the entry conditions. So it must be either her family member’s words weighed a lot to have her listen to them or it was the guards that did the checking sloppily.
But it should also be taken into account that Madam Lok was actually the same as her family members, hiding her gluttony behind her righteous façade.
Charles Wong said, “Ta Kei, continue to keep an eye on it. Others will continue patrol, careful not to make large noises. Don’t let anyone in. Just shoot if someone suspicious approaches.”
“Got it, boss!” The gang members moved out with weapons ready, as well as updating their fellow members that were patrolling outside about their boss’ new command.
“I will keep an eye from upstairs,” L.L. informed Kang Xunsu and went upstairs with his sniper gun.
“I will go with you, senior!” Noodle rushed to follow L.L.
“Yibo, do you have a gun?” Kang Xunsu asked as he rechecked his gun whether his guns were fully loaded.
“I got it from Mrs. Wong’s… house.” Chen Yibo did not dare reveal the truth behind the portraits.
Kang Xunsu thought that Chen Yibo felt guilty for taking things, so he said, “No worries. Madam has tons of guns. You can take it without worry. Do you have enough bullets?”
“I only have one magazine plus six bullets.”
“Not enough. I will bring you more bullets.” Kang Xunsu did not ask if he knew how to use it when the young master always went to the military base to find his uncles during the school’s mid-term break. It was impossible for the elders to not rope in the talented Chen Yibo. “Get your sword too, just in case.”
“I will find it for him,” Smoker offered and went away with Nana.
“They are quite close…” Ta Kei had switched the TV screen to show the CCTV around their villa, leaving his laptop screen occupied by the CCTV of the infected area.
He found that the infected would not enter every house as long as those people inside remained quiet. At this time, many were still sleeping, so only those light sleepers would wake up. He also noted the zombies were not attracted when someone switched on the light.
They only moved when they heard loud movement, or when they saw humans.
“We might not need to switch off the lights,” Ta Kei murmured thoughtfully and then saw two vehicles coming from the corner of the screen. “The police have reached.”
Lan Yan watched the laptop screen behind Ta Kei. “Those monsters are running straight to the police cars.”
The police cars had come with their sirens blaring loudly, not at all low-key in their duty to rescue civilians. Everyone from two streets away could hear them clearly, including the zombies.
The curious Wong Xue Guo joined Lan Yan and watched the CCTV monitor, just in time to see the first police car swarmed by zombies. Luckily, there were only five zombies, but it was still scary with how aggressive they were acting. Even the officers do not dare to get out of the car with how zealous the zombies were smacking the car windows.
Seeing Chen Yibo return after being called aside by Smoker, Wong Xue Guo could not resist pulling him over to look at the screen and ask, “Do you think the police would run them down?”
Before Chen Yibo could answer, the police car that was surrounded lowered the passenger seat’s window. The officer behind it started to shoot, but it also gave the zombies a chance to attack. The zombies’ hands had inserted into the gap and blocked the officer’s view to shoot their weak points. Their gun was useless when they could not aim properly, with the hands blocking their view and focus.
There was no audio from the CCTV, but she could guess the police officer must be screaming, unable to dodge the zombies’ clawing attack.
“Idiot,” Wong Xue Guo mumbled unconsciously, but luckily only Chen Yibo and Lan Yan heard it.
Lan Yan tilted her face aside to hide her smile. She had never thought the young miss could be quite humorous.
Just as Wong Xue Guo feared, the zombies managed to forcefully lower down the window and tried to pull out the officer. The officer manages to resist the grabby hands and urges his partner behind the wheel to drive away.
But the advice came too late.
