XG 19 - Jump if you dare to eat my bullet
Among their group, only Nurul Hanani and Low Lin Ya will be leaving with the helicopter. Mr. Kwan's gaze was full of vigilance towards Nurul Hanani, but he did not do anything other than stare.
Suzie Yap stopped Nurul Hanani before she got onto the helicopter. “Do not panic once you remove your tudung. That color is one of the side effects and will not harm you. Eat more food while you still can to regain your vitality, before food becomes scarce.”
Nurul Hanani resisted the urge to touch her head that suddenly felt itchy. “Thank you, Mrs. Wong. You saved my life and I will repay it if I can.”
Her father always told her that she should never forget those that helped her and remember to help them back.
Suzie Yap smiled, her eyes flashed in anticipation. “These days, find out what your ability is and train yourself. Stay low-key if you can. Remember, not everyone could survive the bite like you, and it's best not to share that tidbit with anyone but your father. If possible, hide that you have been bitten to avoid trouble. I will contact your father one of these days.”
She did not hide the information from Nurul Hanani that those who survived the bite tend to have a supernatural ability. They will need more fighters if they want to win against the army of zombies and avoid humankind from extinction.
Mood subdued, Wong Xue Guo waved as she watched the helicopter soared from the rooftop and flew away. The helicopter brings away the great gush of wind and ear-piercing sound, leaving the danger behind.
“You will meet them again in the future,” Suzie Yap soothes her daughter.
“Mhm.” Wong Xue Guo lowered her hand. “Mother, we need to leave quickly. They are getting louder.”
The helicopter had landed on the rooftop without the engine switched off, hence the sound of the fan had been loudly transmitted for a long while. They could distantly hear the faint restless scratching and growls coming from at the other side of the door, causing their heart to stay on edge.
Those zombies’ hearing was truly sharp.
Fortunately, none of the zombies tried to break the windows on each floor and climb up to the rooftop. If that happens, the outbreak will spread even further once the zombie slipped during their climbing adventure and fell down to the street.

No one knows if the zombie could survive from the fall and still be able to move even with great injuries.
“Suzie, your car is in the parking lot?” Vihaan looked troubled. His own car was also in there and he hoped it was not damaged.
“I’ve asked my bodyguard to drive out,” Suzie Yap sighed. “Hopefully they managed to do it before the army blocked the entrance.”
Vihaan also sighed, knowing that the chances of getting his car out were slim to none. He should have already been content to be able to find a way out of this building, but the thought of his car that he had just finished paying off the installments hurt his heart very much.
“Do we know how to use that carriage?” Wong Xue Guo asked, her eyes landed on Chen Yibo, who was examining the buttons.
“I will try,” Vihaan offered, since it does not matter as none of them know how to do it.
“No, let Yibo do it. He has a better response speed,” Suzie Yap said.
“Yeah, Yibo could do it!” Chen Jiang An remembered his cousin was indeed good in reaction speed, which could contribute to his karate and Taekwondo lessons. He had also followed his cousin to learn, but he was stuck in the white belt, unable to chase after his cousin.
“I will try,” Chen Yibo agreed, without any sign that he was troubled by their expectation. Disassembly and reassembly of a gun was tougher than figuring out how to operate the carriage.
Luckily the remote control was on the carriage, and none of them needed to stay behind for the second round of ride. With only six people, none overweight, they hope that their total weight could be supported by the carriage.
The carriage had parked at an inch lower than the rooftop level, so they had to be careful when stepping down into it. Chen Yibo was already on it to examine the remote earlier, which was then followed by Suzie Yap. A little embarrassed, Wong Xue Guo allowed herself to be lifted up into the carriage by her mother, who had done it without signs of struggling with her weight. Vihaan did the same to Kim Sung-Ho, and Chen Jiang An was the last to climb in by himself.
Once they were sure their weight would not topple the carriage, Chen Yibo pressed the button to let it start descending. The speed was not as fast as the elevator, which helped Wong Xue Guo to contain her fear of height, especially without any wall around her.

When they reached the fourth floor, Wong Xue Guo nearly let out a shriek when she saw faces pressed onto the window. Fortunately, they were not zombies, but survivors that hid in the dark corners in fear and could only wait for help.
Noticing the descending carriage, a man was saying something which they could not hear, but Wong Xue Guo had an inkling of what he wanted to say.
Coincidentally, they reached the third floor which also had more survivors noticing them.
Wong Xue Guo felt a sense of panic seeing their faces lit up upon seeing them. “Why do I feel something bad might happen…”
“Yibo, can this thing go faster?” Suzie Yap asked with a taut face. She was the clearest on what humans would do just to survive.
“This is the fastest,” Chen Yibo said. It was expected, as this carriage was designed for the purpose of convenience and safety of the worker.
Someone above managed to pry open the window and yelled, “Bring us too!”
“Shit!” Chen Jiang An cursed when he saw that person wanted to jump down.
“Don’t!” Wong Xue Guo yelled in panic as she grasped the metal sides tighter but the person had already jumped down. She could already imagine the wires supporting the carriage would break down from the extra weight added in rather forcefully.
Suzie Yap quickly grabbed her daughter, hiding her in her embrace, and stabilized them with her knees bent when the person landed roughly in the carriage. Wong Xue Guo’s scream was muffled against her mother’s torso as she felt the carriage swinging back and forth dangerously.
Unbalanced, Kim Sung-Ho smacked against the railing, which Vihaan quickly dragged him back to the center. Despite the fierce swinging, he still took the time to rub the boy’s upper arm that was hit.
“I don’t feel pain,” Kim Sung-Ho said to calm Vihaan down, but it only made the older man feel distressed. Once he knew Kim Sung-Ho was special, Vihaan could no longer view the young boy as ordinary and grew even more worried about him.
The carriage had not stabilized properly yet when someone above wanted to jump down after seeing someone succeed.
Suzie Yap's eyes went chilled immediately, which was in contrast to her soothing motion of rubbing her daughter's back. The carriage was already loudly groaning in protest from the extra weight that was forcefully added. Another will definitely break down one of the main wires and unbalance them.
The carriage barely passed the third floor, and their fall would definitely break their bones, if they were lucky that was the only injury. Suzie Yap could jump down from this height without much injury if she was by herself, but her fragile daughter was now with her.
She never thought she would need to show her daughter this degree of cruelty this early in the game.
Pulling out her handgun, she shot up at the sky and the loud bang successfully stopped that person from jumping.
"Jump, and I will kill you." Suzie Yap promised and the survivors did not dare to test if she could really kill them. "If you want to survive, find a rope and climb down yourself."
"How can you just leave without helping us?" A woman yelled, sounding righteous as she questioned them. "There is still space there!"
"Jump if you dare to eat my bullet!" Suzie Yap dared them with a sneer.
"What the f*ck! Murder is a crime!" A man yelled.
"Who cares what she says anyway? She is just talking big!" A college boy exclaimed and jumped down.
A loud gasp escaped Wong Xue Guo's lips as she watched the looming shadow grew nearly in horror. She hurriedly grabbed her mother as she reached out at the dangling rope with another hand. But Suzie Yap slipped away from her and charged towards the shadow. With a roundhouse kick, she sent the shadow off the course, and the college boy screamed as he fell straight down the building.
Covering her mouth, Wong Xue Guo shuddered fiercely when her ears caught the sound of body hitting the ground. She does not dare to look and ignores the terrified screams coming from inside the building.
Her mother murdered a person just to save them. But those people would not think so, just to argue for their own sake.
Even the first man that jumped onto the carriage trembled at Suzie Yap's cruelty and dragged himself to the corner, trying to keep himself out of her sight.
Suzie Yap stared up at those people gazing at her and smiled. "Any more coming?"
No one dared to try the crazy woman.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
