《Monstrous (Rewrite)》Ch42. Javelin

I had moved to the sentry’s shoulder before it could even get up and began to quickly move towards its exposed neck. With an odd squelch, my claws sunk in deep, and I began to pour copious amounts of magic into it. To kill a sentry, you must destroy its heart, but to reach the heart you need to remove the flesh. On my command the pestilence entered the last stage, the smaller worms began to congeal and transform as the already mutated variants began to eat away at the flesh. Soon the muscly sinew around my claws decayed and withered as the pestilence began to consume. The sentry, unknowing of the sudden change within its body it looked over at its gun in confusion, not understanding why it misfired.
Not wanting to just sit by as it was consumed from the inside, I thought it would be fun to return a favor for having to clean up this guy’s mess. I carefully reached out to the weakened and fractured vail of the spirit and mortal realms and began to tug at the cracks. Like fabric, the cracks began to tear and widen, rapidly extending towards me, and in extent, the sentry. A metallic screech sounded out as the unstable space met the sentry’s armor. The golden metal began to twist and warp as the cracks tried to suck the material in as well as trying to push it away. The armor was made to only temporarily withstand spatial effects, choosing to focus more on magic and physical protection. Soon holes were drilled through and the flesh beneath began to shred.
I was beginning to feel some strain under the energy requirement to physically and magically control so many spatial cracks. I could control just one with the same ease as it takes to toss a pebble, but to calculate and control thousands of cracks is a whole other beast. Realizing that its chest was quickly looking more and more like swiss cheese the giant quickly jumped out of the way causing even more armor and flesh to tear. I released my control on the cracks and allowed the fabric of space to repair itself as I abandoned the giant’s shoulder. Just in time to, as I sailed through the air a wave of flesh exploded out in a blind attempt to expose any enemies.

3rd person (I feel it’ll make more sense in third person and I’m too lazy to go back and alter it)
A massive wave of flesh and bone spikes spread throughout the massive flesh golems surroundings, sinking into the surrounding stone and trees. Hidden to the eye, the spikes dissolved into tendrils and spread out thinly to create a sort of web to detect the one that dared to attack it. Its prized armor was broken and shredded along with one of its holy weapons. It flew into a rage when it found nothing, smashing any and everything it could get its flesh on. But as it raged it failed to notice that its web of bloody flesh was already gone, devoured by an ancient plague. That’s not the only thing it failed to notice, a shadow steadily stood upon its head, watching on as one would do with a toddler’s tantrum.
This continued until the shadow noticed something interesting lodged in the second, undestroyed, gun. Two feet of a grey wooden shaft stuck out of the cannon’s gearbox locking it in place. With an almost inaudible whistle of delight, the shadow seemingly blipped out of existence before reappearing right beside the object. With a hand adorned with ghastly claws, it easily ripped the object out of its metal sheath, revealing it to be an old decrepit javelin. Despite the weapons state of disrepair, a gleam of interest could be seen. The shadow meticulously inspected the javelin, the tip seemed to be made of a spiral horn with the base being a silver metal and the rest of the body being a strange glossy grey wood.
With a small humm of happiness, the shadow tested the weight and balance of the weapon before abruptly disappearing. Noticing the sudden ability to move its second gun the giant looked over suspiciously but saw nothing, but before it could go back to its rampage a sharp ghostly whistle made it look back and found the insect that escaped it before. With agility and speed unbecoming of its height of over 250 feet, it leapt and brought its arm down with immense speed to grab the insect that dared escape it. But as it got close enough to almost taste the insect's flesh a sudden pain assaulted its body. With a thunderous crash, it collapsed as its four legs dissolved from beneath it. It tried to stop its fall with one of its large sausage-like arms but that to collapsed into nothing but a pile of useless flesh.

It was barely able to keep its torso together thanks to its armor acting like an exoskeleton, but as it laid there, defenseless like a newly hatched duckling, a predator was about to make its killing blow. With an unhurried movement, the shadow hoisted the javelin up and took careful aim before hurtling it with enough force to cause a sonic boom. Like a drill, the spiral tip of the javelin pierced the armor like butter and easily through flesh. Suddenly an explosion echoed out as the projectile hit its intended target, the heart, with enough force to send the mass of flesh flying back. With the very source of its power pierced the giant was no longer able to hold form, letting a flood of viscera trail behind its flying form. With a thunderous crash what was left of the giant splattered, leaving behind only its armor and a mass of chains.
With slow steady movements, the shadow approached its fallen prey, eyeing the ball of chains hungrily. The shadow moved without a sound, with only its faint shape being the only evidence it was even there.

The Five Series - redemption
Book 1 - Redemption Three generations have passed since the last near-apocalyptic war. Civilization is beginning to thrive again at an ever increasing pace. The burden of society has been once again placed on the back of a massive robotic workforce, creating a huge divide between industrial glory, and those forced to live in its shadow. Many have stubbornly held onto the old ways of self-governance from back when the government fell, but with its return, life in Welan City is changing. Aaron, a middle-aged man, who is stuck in the rut of daily life, witnesses a murder and finds himself in trouble, love, and the middle of a highly secretive robotics project. Aaron stakes his life on helping a prototype survive, and pays for it dearly. Passionate hate, love, and indifference send life in Welan City spiraling out of control, leaving no one innocent in the end. The Five Series is, well, a series. I've completed 3 of the books so far and will finish with a fourth, maybe fifth book. Book 1 is heavy on the character development side while the following will be much more decision and consequence oriented. This story reaches into the soul of a person and the universe we live in. Some people deserve a second chance, and some do not. With that im mind, no one really ever gets what they deserve though, do they? Always tell the people you care about that you love them as often as you can, they could be gone tomorrow. Would that change if you could always bring them back? I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. Cody
