You’ll See Her Again
Carl Smith sat down and sketched in his fifth-grade art class while his teacher, Ms. Lopez, lectured.
“You’re doing wonderful, honey,” said his mother as she knelt right next to him. “Such a beautiful drawing.”
“Oh, thank you, Momma. I’m drawing this bird just for you. Your favorite.”
She smiled and gave it a closer look. “It’s lovely.”
“Carl Smith!” Ms. Lopez stopped her lecture. “Who are you talking to?”
“My momma.”
“Oh, Carl, you poor dear.” Ms. Lopez walked up to him and patted him on the shoulder. “Pack your things and come with me.”
————
The school principal, Mr. Jacobson, called Carl’s father, Dr. Mark Smith.
“Dr. Smith. Please come pick up your son. You have my most sincere condolences. I believe the boy needs to speak to a grief counselor. He’s having hallucinations.”
“Oh, no! Mr. Jacobson, I’m very sorry about this. I’ll be right there.”
————
Mark spoke to Carl while they drove home.
“Carl, you only need to think your thoughts. Don’t speak them out loud. She can talk with you through your mind.”
“I’m sorry, Poppa. I forgot. I get so excited when she visits me.”
“I understand, son. Tell her how much you love her. And that she should only come to you when you’re alone. She’ll learn from you.”
“Okay, Poppa.”

Two weeks earlier ...
Dr. Mark Smith tended to his terminally ill wife, June, as she spoke to him softly.
“Mark, I’m afraid I’ll never see him grow up. Never advise him. Never show him all my love.”
“You will.” Mark placed a headset on June. “Concentrate and think about Carl with your every memory, every feeling, and all your love. Focus all of your thoughts on him in your mind.”

June passed away the next day.
————
Carl laid in his bed and sobbed into his pillow at the news of his mother’s passing.
Mark entered Carl’s bedroom while holding a glass of water then sat at the edge of the bed.
He opened his hand—“Carl, I need you to swallow this.”
“What is it?” Carl glanced up.
“It’ll make the hurt go away. You’ll see her again.”
Carl sat up, wiped the tears from his eyes, and swallowed the pill.

8 149The Gambit
The kingdoms have rarely experienced peace, with kings and rulers warring against each other on any percieved slight. With explorers riding the waves to find new lands and merchants eager to set up trade routes while profiting as much as possible. Would the status quo still hold up? The veil is already weakining as more magic and horrors seep through the gap. How would the world deal with the sudden increase in the limited resource of magic? With the times changing, barren lands become trade hubs and the power shifts. The system holding it all together, is in a fragile balance, would a single death break the balance and cause the most devastating war the people have experienced. The direction of the story : The story will not contain any main protagonist, rather multiple protagonists and antagonists with the protagonists having bad some character traits and the antagonists some good ones. I plan to make a story of flawed humans, so if you are looking for OP MCs you would not enjoy it. But I still hope you give it a try. This is my first time writing and I am doing it to get better, so any suggestion or criticism is welcome. I am a university student, so do not expect a robust upload schedule, I'll try to put out 2 chapters a week, but there might be some delays. I apologize for it in advance. P.s. English is not my native language, so there might be some errors, though I tried to mitigate them as much as possible.
8 101The garden of fear
"The garden of fear" is a fantasy novel set in our modern world where a man, Richard, will meet a surreal creature: none other than the living embodiment of fear. The terrifying creature occurred to him for the simple reason to offer him a "special" job ... but what can ever want the Fear from him, a simple human being?
8 135The Blue Path: Step 1
Reality is a prison. Zero Space is the only way out. The Haven - a fortified skyscraper. It's humanity's last stand, and it won't be standing much longer. Jay might not live to see the end of the world. Not in his condition. He’d rather spend his remaining time playing a VR game called Zero Space. At least there, he can be a gun-toting bad-ass named Shae. But when Jay finds a forbidden new power, it reveals a secret side of Zero Space, filled with sentient AI, scheming monsters, and murderous players. Zero Space may be more than just a game. It could be the key to saving the world. Or ending it. --- - New chapters every other Thursday at noon(ish). - Comments and feedback very much welcome! - Check out the Discord Server for early chapters and discussion: https://discord.gg/CKVGsCrMEX
