《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 109 – The Rest of the Ten Feathers

Following that, He Zhan quickly and briefly described each Feather’s cultivation, their appearance, their master, their title, their strong point, and unique trait. He started from Xiu Yao down to the Tenth Feather, not even excluding himself:
“First Feather: Xiu Yao. Four Talons. One of the four suns: [Dark Sun]. Aside from being a blindfolded brainless non-stop-talking bastard, he was Supreme Elder, Mei Hengkong’s disciple. Since you are also Supreme Elder’s disciple, you must already know this fact. While I can’t say for sure what kind of ability he got, I at least know that he can manipulate shadow and tend to get very strong under the shadow. As I have never seen him fight anyone seriously, I guess he must have something more under his sleeves. So, I can only say one thing – beware of his shadow.”
“Next is me. Second Feather: He Zhan. Three Talons. Also, one of the four suns: [Saber Sun]. As you heard from this dumbass, my sister and I are Peacock Lord’s disciples. And since you are familiar with my little brother, He Chen, you must have known something about my bloodline ability. With that ability, coupled with some of my skills, I can boost my attack from time to time. Not only that, but I also know the way of saber. I crafted this saber because I am also a forger. Let me tell you a secret. Because their mind and spirit will link together, creating a solid bond making them perfectly match with one another, a cultivator together with the weapon they forged will be much stronger than those who use borrowed or bought weapons.”
“Third Feather: He Chuan. My twin sister. Three Talons. One of the four suns: [Sword Sun]. Together with Sikong Jian, [Lightning Sun], makes us the [Four Suns]. She has the same bloodline, hence the same ability as me. She also forged her own weapon. Since she learned the way of the sword, the weapon she crafted would, of course, be a splendid sword. Actually, if we fight Xiu Yao together, we will certainly emerge in victory because we have a skill that when we activate it, we can tremendously increase the damage output. I won’t be explaining about how the skill works, though, as it is our secret.”

“Next one is there, the one with the dark green dress and blue hair tucked in a low bun. That’s Fourth Feather: Lian Fu. Two Talons. This girl is really mysterious. Even though we are in the same generation, we don’t know much about her ability or skill. We don’t even know if she has a master, but since she consistently rejected the invitation from elders, I guess she must already have one. That’s all I can say about her. In each of her previous matches, she only used barehand and close combat to beat her opponent down. No ability, nor skill. However, sometimes one could see a faint blue flame on her hands when fighting. That’s why some call her [Blue Hands].”
“Fifth Feather: Zhao Zedong. One Talon. There, a little guy with short silver hair who was only five-feet tall. But don’t let your guard down against someone like him. His small frame doesn’t represent his cultivation and fighting style in the slightest. Not only is he the youngest Feather entering the group at 18 years of age, but he also defeated the previous Fifth Feather with the cultivation of Two Talons when he was only a Nine Fangs Fighter at a time. His flame control is also unprecedented, hence his title [Ferocious Flame]. That’s why First Elder took a fancy to him and made him his first disciple right after the competition.”
“If you think the Fifth Feather is short in height, then Sixth Feather is even tinier. There! A little girl with purple hair and purple clothes with only three-feet-five, sitting on that tree branch. That’s Sixth Feather: Fang Qiqi. Two Talons. A disciple of an elder from the Formation Department. This girl specializes in formations and can write them incredibly quickly, making her a [Magic Doll]. Together with her phantom-like dodging ability, she can use the strength of the formations to increase her offensive and defensive power, making her difficult to deal with.”
“Next, Seventh Feather: Mo Qianqing. One Talon. [The Gladiator]. That 2.5 meters muscular titan over there. He is the Second Elder’s disciple, skilled in both physical strength and the art of healing. I know. You must also be thinking that his specialties are quite mismatched. Normally, a brute type would not be interested in learning mild and tender arts like healing. However, that’s what makes him very strong, being able to fight all he wants while healing himself at the same time. Coupling with his endurance, this guy is practically impossible to be beaten down by any cultivator with the same level or lower.”

“Eighth Feather: Cheng Hai. Two Talons. And Ninth Feather: Quan Yun. One Talon. You can see them at the corner of the garden, a handsome boy lying on a beauty’s lap. Cheng Hai is the boy, while Quan Yun is the girl. They are a couple from the same village, coming to take the Peacock School’s entrance exam about six years ago. They were both under the tutelage of the Peacock Lady. Cheng Hai specializes in aquatic skills, as Quan Yun in wind skills. Although they are much more powerful together than fighting alone, each of them can handle their own opponents quite well. Their title is called together as [Oceanic Cloud].”
“Lastly, Ten Feather: Zhuan Zemin. Ten Fangs. He is the one with a stalwart armored figure and manly facial hair, who just walked up to the Fifth Feather, Zhao Zedong just now, and chatted. Zhuan Zemin is Third Elder’s disciple. And since he is Third Elder’s disciple, he is also a forger. He personally forged that armor wrapping around him. [The Aegis] is both his title and his armor’s name. Like his title implied, he is specialized in a defensive measure. Although he can’t handle an attack from a cultivator with much higher cultivation, he can take one with one level above without a problem.”
Finishing the introduction, He Zhan turned to Feng Luotian: “One last thing to take note of is that every Feather can easily handle a cultivator with one level above their own. Some might render the suppressive principle from 2-3 levels difference totally useless. How is it, God’s Son? You think you can defeat any of them?”
He Zhan heard that Feng Luotian could trade a hundred blows with the Three Talons clone at the cultivation of Seven Fangs. That was six levels difference. Thus, not only Xiu Yao but He Zhan was also looking forward to fighting Feng Luotian.
As for Feng Luotian, he smiled in response: “I must admit that they are all stronger than I anticipated. I realize now that I have to prepare a lot if I wish to squeeze my name into the Ten Feathers. Thank you for the information, Senior Brother He Zhan. It is extremely constructive.”
He Zhan could tell that Feng Luotian was currently being awfully humble with his word choice. Thus, it did not dim his fighting spirit down in the slightest.
They talked about other things for a couple of minutes when Mei Yue’er and the team finished their herb search and came to greet them.
Feng Luotian told them about what they were talking about previously and summarized the Ten Feathers for the team to have an idea of what they were up against. Even though Feng Luotian was trying to finish the conversation as quickly as possible, Xiu Yao always presented his long preach whenever there was a chance, making the talk longer than it should be.
When they decided to part ways and were about to return to their own residences, another uninvited guest came to join the group.
It was the Gladiator, Mo Qianqing. His colossal build made it seem like an adult visiting a group of children. One hug from him could literally carry everyone away, but, in fact, he came for only one target. He stretched his hand toward Mei Yue’er and proposed: “Junior Sister Mei, there will be a Feather Ranking Competition in the next two weeks. At my Alchemy Center, there happens to be a new healing art that can restore your Theríon much faster than normal. If you come to train with us, your cultivation will surely increase at a much faster pace. Would you like to come with us after this event?”

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.

For the Hoard
Ergo the dragon is enjoying his seasonal hibernation when human explorers from another world invade his lair. Sucked into an unknown land, and reduced to a fledgling dragon by the loss of his hoard; Ergo must struggle to survive in a world that has been utterly subjugated by humanity. More importantly, will he ever get to finish his hibernation!? note: while I ticked the boxes for sexual/traumatizing content, I mostly did that to keep my options open. I don't currently have any planned, nor do I expect it to be a significant part of the story. After all, the main character is literally a dragon.
