《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 102 – Third Elder

After waking up the next morning, Feng Luotian headed straight to the school’s forging department which was now managed by the Third Elder of the Peacock School and also of the Mei Clan.
At first, when Feng Luotian acquired tons of Diamond Shell Spider’s shells, he intended to sell them off to the most famous weapon shop in the city to exchange them for monster cores for refining thereafter, but after some consideration when he lectured his friends about speed and skill, Feng Luotian realized that he was still quite lacking in term of skill number. That was why he decided to exchange the spider shells for the school contribution points instead of monster cores.
With contribution points, Feng Luotian could gain access to various skills in the school’s library and use contribution points to rent out skill books from it. These skill books could not be bought or rented with monster cores, which were the common currency in this cultivation world, and could only be done using contribution points instead.
One could gain the Peacock School’s contribution points by doing service for the school, and for this case, giving forging materials was also one of the services you could do to gain contribution points.
After entering the forging department, Feng Luotian saw a bare-top hulky man with tanned skin and full of beard. His muscles were so large that they could smash everything in one blow. This massive figure was repetitively slamming a hammer down onto a hot plate of steel that was still bright red from the heat, creating a thunderous noise in every swing.
Name: Mei Changji
Level: One Wing
Bloodline: Thousand Illusion Aurora Peacock
Bloodline Ability: Illusion Clone
The user can create an illusion clone with the cost of Theríon. The higher level of the clone, the more Theríon it costs. Creating an illusion clone at the same level as the user will cost their maximum Theríon capacity.
When the big man finished hitting that steel plate, he nipped the plate with pliers and tossed it into the water container, fuming a cloud of smoke everywhere in the room.
Throwing away the pliers and the hammer in his hands to the side, he walked toward Feng Luotian with a grumpy face, and with a deep and hoarse voice, he annoyingly reprimanded: “You still have the gut to come to me after making me lose a high-level Titanium material, God’s Son?! If you don’t compensate for what you did … Hmph! Even though I cannot do anything to you, I can still ban you from entering my department, much less doing any kind of business with us. Just so you know, other than those herons, there’s no one else that can produce armaments as good as me! So, God’s Son, what are you doing here exactly?”

Glancing at the showcase cabinet beside the smithy, there were indeed some Titanium armaments mingling with other high-grade ones. Even so, it was still far-fetched to compare these galleries with the ones at Ming Zhuo’s; however, since that mysterious shop was hidden from the world, one could say that the big guy’s achievement is of the top forger within the city, hence his confidence when talking about forging armaments.
Feng Luotian looked at the large man while spreading his hands and said: “You cannot blame me for this, Third Elder. That sparrow was asking for it. Furthermore, that item previously belonged to me and was given to the Mei Clan by me. How could you claim the compensation for the one giving the item to you?”
Third Elder scowled: “I know that and I didn’t ask for the compensation of that item. It’s the compensation for my feeling! How could you be so cruel to take such a treasure away when it’s already landing in my hands? Do you know how despairing I’m feeling right now? Of course, you would not because you’re not a forger. You won’t understand a thing. It’s like you have taken my children away right before my eyes. It was heartbroken!”
Third Elder was angry at first and at the end of his long complaint, he turned sad while covering his eyes full of tears.
Feng Luotian inwardly sighed: “As expected of First Elder’s son. He inherited his father’s compassion as a forger. Not to mention that he has more talents than First Elder since he is successful in both cultivation and forging.”
So, Third Elder was First Elder’s son, which also made him Peacock Lord’s cousin. Elder system of the Mei Clan was quite simple. Regardless of one’s age, if you had the Mei Clan’s bloodline and achieved Wing Realm, then you automatically became an elder of the Mei Clan. After that, you would be ranked according to your strength.
Before Feng Luotian could speak, Third Elder snapped back to his usual fierce attitude. Like a huge lion threatening his prey, Third Elder decisively stated: “If you don’t give me something with equal value, I’ll really ban you from this place, God’s Son!”
Feng Luotian calmly suggested: “Calm down for a second, Third Elder. That’s exactly what I have in mind. I came here to exchange some forging materials for the school’s contribution points.”
Third Elder disdainfully sneered: “Heh! If you don’t have any more lion tail’s blade or other Titanium materials, then don’t bother taking them out. I won’t accept them because I’m still angry at you!”

Feng Luotian frowned: “You won’t accept them because you’re still angry at me?! What kind of nonsense is that?! Are you an adult or a child, Third Elder?!”
Third Elder: “Oh! So, you don’t have any more Titanium materials. Then, get lost!! Come again when you procure some of those. I won’t accept anything lower than that level from you!”
Feng Luotian: “Yeah, yeah, yeah! Since you don’t want these five hundred Diamond Shell Spider’s shells, then I will just sell them elsewhere! Goodbye, Third Elder!”
“Wait!!” Not even a step was taken, a loud shout from Third Elder caused the whole building to tremble.
Feng Luotian: “What else do you have to say, Third Elder? You just tell me to get lost, and now you want me to stay. What are you? A bipolar?!”
Third Elder cleared his throat and spoke more gently: “What did you say you have come to exchange again?”
Feng Luotian casually answered: “Five hundred plus Diamond Shell Spider’s shells.” Then he touched his spatial ring and dropped a mountainous pile of diamond shells down beside him.
“This …” Third Elder became speechless at the sight. He never came across this many high-grade ingredients in one place. Although these things were not Titanium materials, they were still high-grade ones. And their sheer number left Third Elder astounding.
Feng Luotian let out a soft chuckle: “How about it, Third Elder? Would you like to make some trade?”
Third Elder was jolted by the question. He quickly changed his expression to a scornful one: “Hmph! Even though I am really reluctant to do business with you because they are just high-grade materials, I can see that you have put much effort into collecting all of these. If you have any more items, you may take them out now.”
Feng Luotian shot a side glance at Third Elder thinking: “So, he’s still conceited after seeing this pile, huh? Let’s see if you can stand still after this!” He touched his spatial ring again and brought out four thousand fragmented shells from the spider queen. The aura radiating from them was far stronger than another pile.
Third Elder’s eyes widely opened like a saucer: “WHAT?! You got the queen too?! It is hard enough just to find the diamond shell spiders, much less their queen. Where did you find her? And also, the diamond shell spider queen is normally late-stage Talon Realm, how did you even manage to kill her with your late-stage Fang Realm?”
Feng Luotian calmly responded: “That’s not a part of doing this exchange business, don’t you think, Third Elder. So, are you or are you not going to trade with me?”
Swallowing so hard that it could be heard from a dozen meters away while looking at the treasures, Third Elder eventually walked to the counter and took out an abacus behind it, then started calculating: “523 diamond shells, 120 contribution points each. Plus 4,000 queen shell fragments, 150 contribution points each. Deducting the compensation for hurting my feeling 90%, you will get 66,276 contribution points.”
Feng Luotian loudly protested: “WHAT THE?! Third Elder, how could you be this cruel? Deducting 90% off?! That’s daylight robbery! I can only allow a 10% deduction. Otherwise, if you are going to be this heartless, I would rather sell them to other weapon stores in the city.”
Third Elder scowled: “You don’t even know how I feel when you took that away from me! But I will be lenient and decrease the deduction to 50%!”
Feng Luotian still refused the offer: “Didn’t I come here to give you another pile of materials? But since you are trying to be lenient, then I can be as well; however, 20% is at the most I can accept, or I’ll immediately walkout, Third Elder!”
Third Elder: “40%”
Feng Luotian: “20%”
Third Elder: “30%”
Feng Luotian: “20%”
Third Elder: “25%”
“20%” Feng Luotian did not plan on yielding any more discounts.
Unlike any other cultivation world where the sect or school could give contribution points endlessly, the Peacock School’s elders had their own amount of contribution points, which they obtained these points by contributing to the school. If a disciple came to exchange some materials for contribution points, the elder had to fork out their contribution points to pay for the materials, hence the fierce negotiation between Third Elder and Feng Luotian.
Third Elder irritably howled: “FINE!! 20%, it is. Here are 530,208 contribution points! Get lost before I kick you out myself!” He tossed out a golden badge with a peacock symbol.
Feng Luotian received the badge and checked the number of contribution points inside it. Once confirmed, he slowly walked out of the department with a victorious smile. But before he passed the door, Feng Luotian turned to Third Elder and asked: “How is First Elder doing lately, Third Elder?”

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’
