《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 100 : Discussion of Speed

After Tu Lingxi stabilized her newly obtained power, she came out and called He Chen into the house.
When He Chen reached the cultivation room, Feng Luotian, who was sitting on the floor, coolly said: “Please sit down opposite to me, Brother He.”
He Chen excitedly sat down as he expected the same to happen to him as what happened to others; however, that expectation was turned down by what Feng Luotian had to say: “I have to say something first. I know that you hope that I can help you break through a level like others, but in your case, I can only help you reach the peak stage of Six Fangs.”
He Chen had a weird expression on his face. He could not help but feel jealous that everyone could enhance their cultivation by a level but he was left out of the group.
Feng Luotian noticed this so he quickly explained: “Brother He, it’s not like I don’t want to help you all the way but, unlike others, you have to comprehend your Theríon for at least 90% first before I can help you level up faster. Otherwise, your cultivation path will be obstructed by this minor transgression. You may not care about it in a few years’ time, but you will surely regret it after dozens of years have passed. So, please believe me and understand my intention. I know it’s a hard pill to swallow, not being talented like others, but you have to accept it and train harder than anyone else to reach the same height as them.”
Still, with a saddening face, He Chen lightly nodded and accepted his fate as he received some monster cores from Feng Luotian and began refining them with Feng Luotian’s help.
When he reached the peak-stage Six Fangs, He Chen almost forgot all about the earlier unfortunate conversation. He did not expect to reach the peak stage this fast, so he sincerely expressed his gratitude: “Thank you, Brother Feng! Thank you!”
“Don’t mention it.” After that, Feng Luotian also asked He Chen to keep this a secret and placed a seal on his memories just like Tu Lingxi. Then he stood up and proceeded to his house’s entrance to invite everyone inside to discuss what to do next.
After five people seated themselves at the round table, Feng Luotian started: “Actually, the first thing I want you guys to do is to familiarize yourselves with the power you just obtained. After I see that you’re ready, I’ll help you with the breakthrough again.”

Mei Yue’er promptly asked: “You can do this infinitely, Luotian?”
A simple nod from Feng Luotian made everyone in the room gasp in a cold breath.
Feng Luotian further elaborated: “But of course, it’s infinite within you guy’s current knowledge of the cultivation world. I can’t possibly make you an immortal in one go. Anyway, today I’d like to give you guys a quick brief of what you have to train to further improve your battle prowess. First, Brother Sun, share the battle record between me and Sikong Jiu last week for everyone to see.”
Sun Wuji: “Don’t worry I have already shared that record for everyone except Brother He.” Then he turned to He Chen and gave his wisp of conscience with the battle record.
After He Chen finished watching the record, Feng Luotian asked: “What do you guys think about it? How long do you think you can last fighting Sikong Jiu? Brother Sun?” He signaled with his hand, demanding to get the answer from Sun Wuji first.
Sun Wuji pointed at his own face: “Me? I’d have been caught by that golden triangle disabling skill. After that, you can imagine the rest.”
Mei Yue’er also gave out her opinion: “For me, I think I could dodge that move. While it’s not easy to avoid Sikong Jiu’s [Overcharge], I think I could survive dozens of moves until he exhausted all of his Theríon. After that, I can defeat him.”
Tu Lingxi: “Mhm. I would switch between being on the ground and in the air while dodging, and use the same tactic as Senior Sister Mei by making him spend all of his Theríon before defeating him.”
“Oh! Is that so?” Feng Luotian then turned to He Chen: “What about you, Brother He?”
He Chen raised his hands: “Don’t ask me? How could I hope to fight one of the four stars?”
Feng Luotian lightly placed his hand on He Chen’s shoulder in understanding and nodded at the replies from his friends: “Yes, you all are correct in your own perspective, but unfortunately, Brother Sun is the only one who answered accurately, excluding Brother He who didn’t give an answer.”
“Why?” Mei Yue’er and Tu Lingxi unsatisfyingly asked.
Feng Luotian flatly replied: “Because you evaluate the battle from the spectator’s view, what if you are the one fighting?” After that, he retrieved the battle record from his perspective and gave it to the rest of the team.

“This …” After finished watching, Mei Yue’er and Tu Lingxi, who had wanted to complain about being underestimated by Feng Luotian, were speechless.
In the spectator’s view, they could clearly see how Sikong Jiu was moving, but in the fighter’s view, they could not even see where he teleported himself, so how could they dodge the incoming strike?
Feng Luotian teasingly smiled: “Yue’er, you’d have lost after a couple of [Overcharge], as for Sister Tu, even though you could go airborne, a single flick of his dagger into the air would allow him to fly as well. And you both said that you would wait for Sikong Jiu’s Theríon to be spent, but if he had a treasure or a pill that instantly recovered his Theríon, what then? Do you both still think you could escape his grasp and his technique?”
Two girls shook their heads, one in frustration and one in dejection.
Feng Luotian cheerfully said: “Don’t need to be that emotional. Something like this can be fixed, but before that, do you know what you’re lacking?”
They all shook their heads.
Feng Luotian pointed at Sun Wuji: “Then why do you think Brother Sun would not be able to dodge the [Trigonal Lightning Snare]?”
Mei Yue’er gave a side glance to Sun Wuji: “Heh, what else could it be? He is always too slow when fighting.”
Sun Wuji shrugged his shoulder. He did not mind a grating insult from Mei Yue’er because he knew his weakness really well. To increase his attack and defense, he had no choice but to sacrifice his speed as that was his bloodline ability. After realizing what Feng Luotian was trying to say, Sun Wuji answered for everyone: “So, it’s the speed that we’re lacking.”
Feng Luotian nodded approvingly: “Yes. You all need to top up your speed to be able to fight with them equally. And not just the Sikong clan, if you are fast enough, you will always gain advantages over your opponent no matter who they are. But if you are slow, not only you will not be able to dodge the incoming attacks, but you will also not be able to land a hit at all. So, we need to increase our speed. And what I am talking about is not limited to just moving speed at which Sister Tu is most proficient. There are attacking speed, reaction speed, turn speed, accelerating speed, weapon utilizing speed, and many other kinds of speed in battle. Learning to use various kinds of speed will give tons of methods to deal with your opponent based on their ability, skill, and technique.”
Sun Wuji asked: “Then what kind of speed did you use to catch that bastard, Sikong Jiu?”
Feng Luotian: “Because of my lack of wide range of skills, the methods and strategies I could use were limited at that time, so I had to use more than just speed to defeat him. Even so, to avoid most of his [Overcharge], I maximized my reaction speed and accelerating speed to get out of the skill path safely.”
Tu Lingxi: “What did you use other than speed? I’m also confused about the last part of your battle record. You moved away after delivering a feign kick and waited for him there. How could you be so sure that he would teleport to that place?”
Feng Luotian: “It’s a combination of various kinds of speed, battle experience, afterimage technique, killing intent, and provocation. Achieving all that and you will be able to do as I did, but I’m sorry to say that it won’t be anytime soon.”
Everyone was stunned, with no idea what he was talking about.
So, he continued: “While there is nothing like the most important factor when it comes to battle, speed is still one of the deciding elements you need as it can make up for your other deficiency. For example, if you were born short-sighted and could not improve your accuracy no matter how hard you train on it, an extreme attacking speed would allow you to attack again and again until hitting the target before your enemy could even react. A frail body like Brother Wei, who will be beaten down in a couple of moves if the attack really strikes him, can use his reaction and moving speed to never get hit. I did not say that you won’t need other kinds of training, but speed training is the simplest one of all the things I have mentioned when I defeated Sikong Jiu. And also, …”
They all silently listened to Feng Luotian with attentive gazes, like he was a teacher giving a lecture to a couple of inquisitive students.

Phantom Storm
"Have you heard, the entire Bonanno crew was brutally murdered!" Exclaimed a youth in his early teens. "What? you're lying, again!" Another similarly aged child responded with crisp denial in his tone. After all, the crew was infamous for their ruthlessness. An eery silence passed between them. Soon enough, the teens' curiosity trumped his ego, and he found himself inquiring in a meek voice. "So...Who did it?" "I heard my father talking about it while he was drunk. Guess what he said?..." The child responded, he was a natural-born storyteller. Listening intently, the other teen urged him on. "It was done by a single person. When the police arrived, the bodies were charred black, likely the work of an electro mage. Most had an arrow or two lodged in their body, and a few were even chopped into neat little slices by a sharp blade." He paused, inhaling sharply. "All the victims had shocked expressions on their faces. As if the enemy was invisible or something. That's why they call that person the Phantom Storm!" concluded the adolescent with an excited glint in his eyes. 2 CHAPTERS PER WEEK (Canada time) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] -------------------------------------------- Follow Itsuki as he is reincarnated in an unfamiliar world, left to discover where he belongs in such a place. There will be no sudden power gains. The protagonist will have to work hard for what he gets. - This story is not about a loner, he'll have a few companions, and they will not be useless. - Some romance will be explored but not take away from the story. The main character will not be dense. Absolutely no harem will happen, but there might be a few love interests, no more than 3. - I will try my best to not follow cliches and stay as original as possible. - This story is my first ever, whether online or in real life. Thus, I might have grammatical errors here and there. The story might have a few plot holes and other such minute mistakes, as well. But I guarantee to try my best.
