《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 98 : Only Master in Name

Xiu Yao approached Mei Hengkong and asked: “What do you think of your disciples, Master?”
Mei Hengkong was surprised by his disciple’s sudden question: “You mean Luotian and Wuji? Why do you ask?”
Xiu Yao plainly voiced his thought: “Luotian and Wuji, huh, Master? I’ve noticed this since we talked in your room earlier. As you accepted them as your disciples, normally you’d change the way you address them. Like you called me Yao’er, you should have called them Tian’er and Wu’er as a sign of affection and intimacy you have toward your disciples. So, I’m interested as to why you don’t call them as such.”
Finally knowing the cause of the previous question, Mei Hengkong simply replied: “It’s because I don’t dare to fully accept them as my real disciples. I’ll just be their master in name only so that they will have fewer hindrances in the future.”
His answer confused Xiu Yao: “You don’t dare to accept them, Master? Why?”
Mei Hengkong answered with a question: “If you know that in a few years, your disciple will be a hundred times stronger than you, do you dare accept them?”
Xiu Yao could not help but feel astonished by his master’s response: “You’re joking, right, Master? How could they become that strong in just a few years? But if that’s really the case, I’d want them to be my disciples even more, since I can brag about how strong my precious little ones have become.”
Mei Hengkong looked at Feng Luotian and his team’s departed figures and sighed: “Yes, I’d be very proud if they became so powerful that I can brag to other people. But if they finally become the ruler of this world … let’s say that they become Gods. Do you have the nerve to call them Tian’er and Wu’er?”
“!!” Xiu Yao was stunned for a moment, then he shook his head: “No. It’d be quite embarrassing for me to call them that. But will they become that strong, Master? Are they that talented?”
Mei Hengkong flatly said: “Because you always submerged yourself in cultivations and missions, you don’t recognize Feng Luotian. Do you even know who he is?”
Xiu Yao shrugged his shoulders: “No. But I heard the Sikong Clan’s Clan Chief called him God’s Son, so I could guess that Junior Brother Feng is ‘his’ son. Nevertheless, Master, the father’s achievement does not always determine their children’s talent. If that’s always the case, then having such an old man, I wouldn’t be …”

Mei Hengkong interjected: “I didn’t judge him by his father’s capabilities. And that’s not the point I raised on the topic of his identity. Do you even know that he had been a cripple until one month ago?”
Xiu Yao’s body was jolted in shock: “Junior Brother Feng was a cripple until one month ago?! That’s impossible, Master! He’s already Eight Fangs Fighter. Don’t tell me he can raise his cultivation from a cripple to Eight Fangs within one month?!”
Mei Hengkong chuckled: “Heh! That’s what I’m going to say. In just one month, he can increase his cultivation from nothing to seven … wait! At what cultivation level did you say he is now?”
Xiu Yao frowned: “Eight Fangs, Master! I think I included that information when I sent the wisp report to you.”
“!!” Because he already knew Feng Luotian’s cultivation level, Mei Hengkong was not paying attention to such detail when he received Xiu Yao’s report. Never did he expect that Feng Luotian had increased to another level. This fact, yet again, terrified him of Feng Luotian’s monstrous talent.
Mei Hengkong cleared his mind and his throat: “Ahem! Anyway, that’s what I’m talking about. Luotian was a cripple one month ago and increased his cultivation to Eight Fangs in five weeks. That’s his real talent!”
Xiu Yao could not help but gasp: “Unbelievable! It normally took years to achieve that feat! Never did I expect that my junior brother is such a genius. Then what about Junior Brother Sun? Surely he doesn’t have the talent of God’s Son.”
Mei Hengkong shook his head: “No, Wuji’s talent should be the same as yours. But since he is Luotian’s sworn brother, Wuji is destined to grow at the same pace as Luotian because Luotian will surely help him grow and will not disregard his cultivation. So, it doesn’t matter how high his talent is, Wuji will also become a powerful cultivator one day.”
Xiu Yao pondered a bit and nodded: “I understand now, Master!”
Mei Hengkong waved his hand to dismiss his disciple: “Since you just got back from your mission, just go and take a rest, Yao’er. Tomorrow, we will resume our training. Let’s hope that you can become a Wing Realm Master before the tournament.”
“Yes, Master!” Xiu Yao cupped his hand and vanished from the scene, leaving his master to contemplate about something in front of the Peacock Pavilion where Peacock Lord and Sparrow Lord fought earlier.

A few minutes later, a soft mutter sounded under his breath: “Did they just come to take that item from us? Or did they have another hidden agenda?” With that, Mei Hengkong too flashed and disappeared from where he stood.
At Feng Luotian’s place
Although Feng Luotian would very much like to stay at his old home near the Winterrock Peak, since he became the Peacock School’s disciple, he had to move into one of the residences prepared by the school. The same went for Sun Wuji and He Chen. No need to mention Tu Lingxi and Mei Yue’er because Tu Lingxi came to the city barehanded and Mei Yue’er already lived inside the Peacock School as here was her clan’s household.
Once they all reached his small-size courtyard, Feng Luotian turned toward them: “First, I’ll help Brother Sun breakthrough to Eight Fangs. This will only take 15-20 minutes so you all can wait here.”
Not that they knew what Feng Luotian was going to do, instead, they had grown numb from his ridiculous abilities and just had to accept whatever came to their ways. If Feng Luotian said that he would do it, then just let him do it. They all knew that Feng Luotian would not hurt them, not even in a million years.
Sun Wuji followed Feng Luotian into his house in a daze. In each step forward, there were dozens of questions appearing inside his mind. But the most obvious question would be – how the hell can you do something like that?
It was common knowledge in the cultivation world about the bottleneck when one reached the peak of their cultivation’s level. And they would need to comprehend their own Theríon to succeed in their Theríon modification.
If even they themselves still could not comprehend their own Theríon, then there was no need to mention whether others would be able to understand how their Theríon worked. However, Feng Luotian just suggested that he would guide them with the comprehension. There was absolutely no sense in his words.
Feng Luotian let Sun Wuji to his cultivation room and casually sat down, then held out his hand: “Brother Sun, come, sit down opposite to me.”
There was no point in doubting his own brother, so Sun Wuji decided to just go with the flow. He sat down and asked: “What’s next?”
Feng Luotian flatly replied: “We will begin your Theríon modification right away.”
Sun Wuji loudly exclaimed: “What?!”
“Just do as I say, Brother Sun.”
“O-Okay.” Sun Wuji started to cry in his heart. As he had not completely comprehended his own Theríon, he would not be able to fully upgrade it to another level. And with one misstep in this process, it would be either energy deviation or death. Although Sun Wuji had complete trust toward his brother, he could not help but wonder how Feng Luotian was going to carry it out.
“To hell with it!” After a loud shout, Sun Wuji clapped his hand and released all of his Theríon from his soul core. Bright golden light oozed out of his body, forming a spherical shape light like a sun. A few seconds later, his body gradually turned into stone as another form of Theríon in the semblance of countless miniature pieces of stone began to peel itself from his skin. Detaching itself from his body, the stony Theríon coiled and revolved itself around the golden star.
Sun Wuji, with a pale face, began to alter his Theríon, using his current amount of comprehension to try to upgrade it to the next level. While he thought that he had not completely comprehended his own Theríon, Sun Wuji had already done a good job upgrading it by more than half of the process.
Once his comprehension reached the limit, with a panting breath, Sun Wuji turned to Feng Luotian: “That’s all I have, Brother Feng. If I put it back like this, I’d be dead for sure. Since you said you could do it, then I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Feng Luotian said with a smile: “Don’t worry. Your current comprehension already made it much easier for me.”
