《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 97 : Next Step

Peacock Lord smiled at Xiu Yao’s easygoingness. Xiu Yao had been his father’s disciple for ten years, so he knew that Xiu Yao did not care about being praised or rewarded and just wanted to do anything he thought was right in his way without caring for the world.
Peacock Lord turned to another group of people that were approaching him after everything had been settled. They were his squad who were willing to charge at Sparrow Lord but were suppressed by Sikong Jing, their supreme elder.
Once they reached Peacock Lord, they got down onto the ground, kowtowing for their uselessness in the previous confrontation.
Of course, Peacock Lord fully understood their reason for not being able to help him, but since they were sincerely begging for his pardon, then he had no choice but to accept it seriously.
After that, he ordered them to scan out the area, searching for the remaining [Lightning Marks] that those from the Sikong Clan might plant during the earlier commotion.
He would not want any more ‘guests’ suddenly appearing in the night and visiting him while he was sleeping.
The corps quickly dispersed and carried out Peacock Lord’s order to the fullest of their abilities.
Now that all the commotion had settled down, Mei Yue’er rushed to her father: “Father! Are you alright?!”
Peacock Lord nodded with a smile: “Don’t worry about it. There’s no damage dealt, but I might need a little rest to recover my Theríon. If it’s not for you guys’ public prank, I’d have lost a lot of faces today. Hahaha!”
When Sun Wuji saw Peacock Lord laugh without feeling angry after being attacked by Sparrow Lord, he could not help but ask: “Peacock Lord, why are you letting them off just like that? This is clearly an act of treason, attacking you out of the blue! We should teach them some lesson so that this won’t happen again!”
Peacock Lord beamed a smile at the hot-headed youth: “Calm down, young one! Even though he attacked me, he didn’t do it with the intent to kill. Every spectator should be able to tell that he’s only looking for just a friendly spar, and nothing else. If not, he would have used more life-threatening skills and techniques. It may seem like I was being bullied just now … well in fact I really was … but I could only blame my incompetence for not being able to deal with him. Although he was cheating in some way, as a city lord, I should be capable enough to face my opponent in any situation. That’s why I can’t just bring my people, barge into their clan, and go to war with them just because of the little stunt, can I?”

Hearing Peacock Lord’s answer and knowing that it was really the case, Sun Wuji cooled his head down.
On the other hand, Feng Luotian walked toward Peacock Lord and asked about First Elder as he noticed that First Elder had been absent while he should be at Peacock Lord’s side: “Uncle Mei, where is First Elder? Isn’t his responsibility to accompany you at all times?”
Mei Hengkong and Xiu Yao at the side overheard his question. They perked up their ears because they both were interested in what Feng Luotian was going to do next despite their warning. They did not try to stop him though as they knew that Peacock Lord would not punish him for suspecting First Elder as the guy had his reason for believing so.
Peacock Lord replied: “I’ve tasked him a mission that would need him to go out of the city for a bit, together with my other disciples. Why do you ask, Tian’er? Do you have some business with him?”
With the question raised, Mei Hengkong and Xiu Yao’s ears became even bigger than before, but in the end, they met with a disappointment because nothing was intriguing about Feng Luotian’s response: “Nothing. I just want to ask him about Brother Wei because I haven’t seen him ever since the entrance exam. But if Fist Elder has a mission to carry out then it can’t be helped! I’ll just ask him another time.”
Peacock Lord gently nodded and returned to his room without further ado, taking Ying Lizhua together with him, albeit with some suspicion about Feng Luotian’s attitude toward First Elder. He also felt some subtle vibe from his father and Xiu Yao when Feng Luotian asked him about First Elder, thinking: “There must be something I’m not aware of.”
Nevertheless, Peacock Lord chose to stay silent about the matter. Both his father and Feng Luotian were someone he trusted, so no matter what they had in mind, they would never have the intention to harm his city.
After he finished his business with Peacock Lord, Feng Luotian walked toward his friends, bringing his senior brother, Xiu Yao, with him to introduce the guy to them.
And to avoid Xiu Yao talking too much, Feng Luotian had been leading the conversation the entire time.
Despite that, Sun Wuji, who would ask out every question he had in mind, always gave Feng Luotian a headache every time he opened his mouth because that would lead to another endless babbling from Xiu Yao. After ten minutes of chat, Feng Luotian began to inwardly complain: “Maybe I should put them both together in the same room so that Brother Sun can finally understand my feeling.”

When Feng Luotian finished his story to let them catch up to the adventure he had in the past few days, he fetched the golden headband from his spatial ring and gave it to Sun Wuji: “Brother Sun, this is what I found from the cave I fell into. It should be able to reduce some pressure from the suppressive force of the stronger cultivators.”
Sun Wuji received the headband with glittering eyes. From its exuding aura, one could tell in an instant that this was a precious treasure: “Woah! Thanks a lot, Brother Feng!” He quickly put it over his head and began to brag to his gang.
Xiu Yao, who noticed the item, could not help but ask: “Isn’t that Huo Zhihao’s [Golden Fillet]?” He was once a friend of Huo Zhihao. He was also in the same generation and also entered Peacock School in the same year as the guy. Even though they were not that close, he could still recognize Huo Zhihao’s trademark item.
Feng Luotian flatly answered: “Yes, I got it together with his wisp of conscience. Can we have this [Golden Fillet]?”
Xiu Yao raised both of his hands while shaking his head: “Why would you ask my permission? What Huo Zhihao owned does not belong to me. Since you found it, then it’s yours, Junior Brother Feng!”
“Thank you.” Feng Luotian slightly nodded.
Xiu Yao waved his hand: “Anyway, I still have something to talk about with Master, so I’ll give you guys some space to talk amongst yourselves. See you later, Junior Brothers!”
Feng Luotian and Sun Wuji cupped their hands: “See you later, Senior Brother Xiu Yao!”
After that, Feng Luotian turned to his friends: “Now back to the serious topics. Although those twins said that they did it without receiving an order from the Sikong Clan, I do not believe it. Who would dare to kill Peacock Lord’s daughter if not them? But because I don’t have enough proof, we can’t deal with Second Elder, much less the Sikong Clan who tried to murder us one month ago. Not to mention, we have another archenemy like the Yin Clan from the Silver Fox City. If we don’t raise our strength until we are strong enough to take care of them ourselves, then we will be doomed to die at the end of the story.”
All of them heavily nodded in agreement.
Feng Luotian continued: “That’s why, in the following weeks, I’ll increase all of your strengths by a margin!”
Sun Wuji immediately arched his brows: “How exactly are you going to do that? As you can see, Sister Mei and I already reached the peak of our levels. What’s left is that we have to comprehend our Theríon to achieve the breakthrough. There are no other options and other methods to accelerate this process.”
Although it was depressing, Mei Yue’er could not help but nod, agreeing with Sun Wuji.
Feng Luotian casually smiled: “You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll guide you both with the comprehension. Both of you as well, Sister Tu and Brother He. If you reach the peak of your cultivation level and cannot breakthrough, just come to me.”
Right after Feng Luotian finished his sentence, everyone’s eyes were widely opened in shock … and doubt. What Feng Luotian just said was completely out of their knowledge and unheard of.
Not expecting anyone to understand his idea, Feng Luotian further suggested: “And also, from what I had witnessed the way you all fought in the entrance exam, you were full of openings, which means there are a lot of things to improve in your fighting style and skills. I will take care of that as well. Come, come. Let’s go to my place and let’s start getting stronger. There’s no time to wait anymore.”
Leaving everyone in a daze, Feng Luotian bid farewell to his master and took off without looking back to confirm whether they followed him. Nevertheless, after some exchanges of glances, they decided to chase after him to his place.

An Extra-Ordinary Story about Ordinary People
In a different world, a different reality, where ordinary people occasionaly have extra-ordinary powers for no particular reason, we follow a number of characters, trying their best to live in this strange yet normal world. We have our first character, a currently nameless but sentinent creature who happened to find himself in the body of a strange fungus after an unknown incident that robbed him of not only his former body but of his memory, as well. Secondly, we follow Smith, a high-standing man who doesn't even need to explain which Smith he is, on top of the world, yet human enough to meet said fungus. And thirdly, we have another nameless character, who is burdened by the ability to summon things that he doesn't want. A charming gang, who will (most likely) meet at some point. --- All and all, it's a twist on the common super-hero world, where all super-heroes have somehow dissappeared, but not the possibility for new ones. The series that feature the mushroom-dude are the 123 ones, the stories that feature Smith are the ABC ones, and the ones that feature our newest character, the summoner-dude, are the abc ones. Neat, huh? Also, just a word of warning? The 123 ones are kind wierd, and you can skip the first few chapters and go straight to the ABC ones without missing too much. But I'd rather you didn't, since i really enjoyed writing them. In ABC and abc, the format changes to a more typical form, with proper grammar and stuff. So if you dont like the 123, I'd love it if you gave the ABC a chance :^) Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it!
