《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 78 : DISCUSSION (3)

In Peacock Lord’s point of view, he had to consider this matter from every perspective. As the City Master, he needed to think of a way to benefit everyone the most: Feng Luotian, his own clan, all other clans, and of course, every denizen of Divine Bird City, even including the people in Sikong Clan.
Peacock Lord very much liked to believe Feng Luotian, but only from the evidence and speculation he got, it was far from enough to judge and determine that Sikong Clan was planning to take over the Mei Clan with the help from Mei Hongyi.
First … even though they had investigated the Wight Wolf incident and they were quite certain of who the culprit was, that was just an assassination attempt on one of the clan members, not an all-out war between clans. Peacock Lord and Supreme Elder were indeed furious after learning the fact that someone from Sikong Clan was trying to kill their daughter and granddaughter respectively, and wished to retaliate as soon as possible. However, they needed to think more and plan more before they made their move.
Second … in the Raven Village incident, it was all speculation without any solid evidence. The monster that was unleashed upon the village could be from any other person and not the same one who summoned the Wight Wolf. The timing of the Vulture Bandit Troupe attacking the village to rob them of [Underworld Orb] right after the monster was repelled by it under an order from Alchemy Center could be just a coincidence. There was no proof from the Raven Village incident to link the Sikong Clan with the Alchemy Center whatsoever.
Third … Although the words Sikong Jiu said about the Mei Clan’s Alchemy Center would choose him over Feng Luotian was indeed suspicious, that was also no evidence indicating that Alchemy Center had colluded with Sikong Clan. It might just be a youngster spouting nonsense after being angry as his arm was torn out.
With everything in consideration, Peacock Lord stated: “Sun Wuji, the evidence is not enough to decide that Second Elder and the Alchemy Center have betrayed us. We can’t take any action against the Sikong Clan either. The only thing we can do now is to covertly prepare for the worst and wait for Tian’er to come back from the valley. There might be something he had not told you yet. But if that’s all he had to say about this matter, I’m afraid there’s not much of a choice.”

Peacock Lord shook his head as he continued: “Not only that, we might have to pay a huge sum to compensate for Sikong Jiu’s lost arm. If my guess is right, the Sikong Clan will come to us as soon as Tian’er returned alive and demand that blade-like Titanium material from us. We can’t demand anything from them regarding the Wight Wolf incident either. Once we do, they will just blame their monster tamers for acting on their own and kill them right off. That won’t change the fact that we’ll still lose the precious treasure to the Sikong, making them much stronger in the process. This … I don’t want to say it to you guys, but you have to accept the truth that Tian’er was too impulsive when he ripped off Sikong Jiu’s arm. As for Second Elder, I’ll call him in for interrogation afterward.”
Sun Wuji, who thought that Peacock Lord would take action as soon as he finished reporting, was stunned by the result. Not only they could not do a thing, but they would also lose something to the Sikong. Nevertheless, since it was from Peacock Lord, he had no choice but to accept it.
Since there was no response from Sun Wuji, Peacock Lord asked: “Is there anything else you want to report?”
Sun Wuji: “No, Peacock Lord. Nothing else for now.”
Peacock Lord ordered: “If that’s the case, then every disciple except Zhan’er and Chuan’er leave. Don’t do anything stupid. Just go back and train.”
Following that, Sun Wuji and the rest of the disciples left the room, while the adults continued their discussion of how to resolve the current situation.
As they walked out of the room, Mei Yue’er hurriedly asked about Feng Luotian’s condition: “How’s Luotian? Is he really alright?”
Sun Wuji replied: “Sister Mei, I have already reported everything I know. And it was Brother Feng himself that left the wisp of conscience stated that he’s fine. I’m sure he will come back even stronger than before like last time.”
Even so, Mei Yue’er was still skeptical about Feng Luotian’s wellbeing. The guy always got himself into trouble.
Tu Lingxi started comforting her as well: “Don’t worry too much, Yue’er. That guy is much more formidable than you think he is.” Even though she was with Feng Luotian for two days: the day they fought the Vulture Bandit Troupe and the day they took the entrance exam, from what she had heard about Feng Luotian’s history, she probably knew the current Feng Luotian more than Sun Wuji and Mei Yue’er regarding his strength.

Ying Lizhua harshly interjected: “Yue’er!! When will you stop being his babysitter?! He’s not someone who needs your protection anymore. Just by looking at how strong he has become in the entrance exam; you should just let him grow the way he wants. I think it would be much faster staying together and being pampered by you. Who knows? The real reason why he awakened so slow might be you!!”
“Shut up, Ying Lizhua!!”
It was from Sun Wuji and Tu Lingxi who sternly retorted back at the same time. In the view of Mei Yue’er, she took his words far too seriously as she started crying thinking about whether what Ying Lizhua said was true.
Ying Lizhua let out a loud snort before leaving the scene. He really thought that it was Sun Wuji and Mei Yue’er who obstructed his ideal brother’s cultivation because as a matter of obvious fact, Feng Luotian became much stronger right after he left their sides. He could not help but put the blame on them.
Sun Wuji coldly uttered: “When I get the chance, I’ll make sure that you will apologize to everyone you’ve offended.”
He turned to the sobbing Mei Yue’er and handed the bag filled with monster cores and also the emerald amulet: [Mana Vial] to her. Of course, she was confused about it, so Sun Wuji explained: “The content in the bag is for the monster cores he borrowed you during the exam. As for the amulet, he bought it just to make it up to you for accepting that bet with Mei Hongli. He said that not only it’s beautiful, but it’s also suitable for you as it can store Theríon for later use. Don’t worry about what that bastard said. Just accept his gift, forgive him for what he’s done, and take good care of him as always. I think Brother Feng will be very happy like that.”
Mei Yue’er lightly nodded and gently pressed the amulet against her chest, picturing him in her mind and thinking about what she would say after his return.
Sun Wuji turned to Tu Lingxi and gave out one dry cough: “Ahem, Sister Tu, when we visited the weapon shop, we also decided to buy you a welcoming gift. Here, take it!!” He then took out a pair of greaves from his storage bag and gave it to Tu Lingxi.
Tu Lingxi smiled and received it without much thought: “Oh? How considerate of you both!! Thanks.”
She did not even notice its aura that it was that of Titanium armament, so she swiftly took off her shoes and replaced them with her new gears. The bronze greaves fit her perfectly: “Now, that’s better. Is it an armament? What’s it called?”
Sun Wuji: “It’s called [Meadow Jumper]. It’s a T … a very high-grade armament. Your jump force and speed should be much greater after wearing those.” He almost exposed the fact that it was a Titanium armament. If she knew, she would return the gift right away.
Tu Lingxi smiled: “[Meadow Jumper], is it? I like it. Thanks again. I will also thank Big Brother Feng myself when I see him again.” Seeing she liked his gift, Sun Wuji was very happy inside, and together they all walked out of Peacock Pavilion.
While they were walking out of the Peacock Pavilion, Sun Wuji asked: “Where is Brother Wei? I haven’t seen him since the end of the exam.”
Mei Yue’er answered: “First Elder said that he entered a seclusion right after the exam to cultivate.”
Sun Wuji was surprised: “Wow, not even a day off, huh? Well, with the current situation, we need to train even harder too. Maybe we will have to engage in an all-out fight with the Sikong Clan in the near future.”
Mei Yue’er sighed: “I really hope that Luotian’s hypothesis is wrong, because if it’s true, then the death counts won’t be small. I really hate seeing dead people.”
Sun Wuji firmly responded: “We can only become strong enough to frighten those guys away from executing their plan. That is the only way without fighting and shedding blood.”
Mei Yue’er contemplated for a bit and nodded: “I guess so.”
Tu Lingxi added a little joke to the tense atmosphere: “Let’s train then. If Big Brother Feng could become Six Fangs or Seven Fangs in one month, before he returns this time, he will become even stronger. I don’t want to be left behind any longer. Together with this new pair of greaves, I won’t be just a supporting role next time.”
Sun Wuji smiled and answered: “Sure, let’s go back and train. I won’t be staying as a supporting role either!!”
Mei Yue’er heavily nodded, and with that, they all dispersed and went back to their places to hellishly cultivate their strength.
