《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 73 : NEFARIOUS VALLEY
Advertisement
Beyond Divine Bird City’s western border lies another landscape just like Warland Thicket and Winterrock Peak.
It was called Nefarious Valley.
The valley might not be as vast as the Warland Thicket, but it contained as many monsters. And even though the valley seemed like a normal rainforest, the danger level and death rate here were even higher than Winterrock Peak.
Why?
Firstly, what would happen when there was the same number of monsters in the less area? Of course, the density would be multiplied. The moment one treaded into the valley, they would be targeted by dozens of monsters.
Secondly, not only were the monsters in the Nefarious Valley aggressive ones, but they also mainly preyed on humans, or rather cultivators. Only when there was no cultivator to hunt that they would attack amongst themselves. These monsters were called [Dark Monsters].
Thirdly, there was no zone here that would separate the levels of danger. If you had a hell of bad luck, you would step on a Wing Realm monster’s tail without noticing, and nothing more had to be explained what would happen after that.
Knowing that why would any cultivators want to wander into the Nefarious Valley? If it was not the treasures, what would be attractive enough to entice cultivators?
Monsters in the Nefarious Valley tended to give higher-grade materials for crafting, forging, or making pills. And there was a possibility that one monster could give more than one monster core.
Proficiently hunting monsters within the Nefarious Valley would give you much more profits than the Warland Thicket.
However, only cultivators Talon Realm or higher were allowed to enter the valley, because anyone in the Fang Realm entering the valley would only be serving a side dish to the monsters without exceptions.
Now, Feng Luotian planned to flee into the Nefarious Valley. That was why Sun Wuji asked him whether he was out of his mind.
Fighting the twins would have more chance of surviving than entering the Nefarious Valley at the Fang Realm.
Feng Luotian smiled and answered: “It’s fine with a little adventure, don’t you think, Brother Sun? Before going any further, let’s link Theríon and form a party.”
Sun Wuji rolled his eyes at the first sentence, but still nodded in agreement and linked his Theríon with Feng Luotian’s. Whatever happened, if their Theríon was still linked, it would be much more convenient without it.

As for the twins, they were surprised at first when noticing that Feng Luotian and co. were heading into the Nefarious Valley, but after a moment of thought, they let out a light chuckle.
“Actually, we don’t have to chase them anymore, because they will die for sure, right, Whitey?”
“Indeed, Blackie!! We just have to guard the entrance for a few hours, if they don’t run back here, then they have certainly died inside the valley.”
“However, just to be sure, we have no choice but to continue, right, Whitey?”
“Indeed, Blackie!! There is no need for us to fear as we have monsters on our side.”
Being Two Talons Warriors and monster hunters, the twins had an absolute advantage over others. That was why they entered the Nefarious Valley, chasing after their target.
Upon entering the valley, excluding the twins that were pursuing them from where he fought Sikong Jiu earlier, Feng Luotian could sense a dozen more of aura that was also tracking them behind the dense forest.
Thinking that if they were to continue running like this, they would be outrun by either the twins or the dark monsters, so Feng Luotian suggested: “Brother Sun, I’ll be the bait and draw their attentions away. You should hide and go back to report my speculation about Sikong Clan’s planned assassination and Second Elder’s potential conspiracy to Uncle Mei.”
Sun Wuji worriedly asked: “Will you be alright? This is the Nefarious Valley we’re talking about”
Feng Luotian replied with a stern and serious face: “Don’t you trust me, Brother Sun?”
Sun Wuji had no choice but to agree to Feng Luotian’s demand: “Okay, okay. You wouldn’t listen to me anyway.”
Feng Luotian: “It’s good as long as you do trust me, Brother.” As soon as he finished his conversation with his brother, he activated [Underworld Physique] and charged straight at the huge boulder in front of their path.
His weight and speed easily made a tunnel through that boulder with a loud boom, but when he was out, only Feng Luotian could be seen but Sun Wuji was no longer with him.
Although the dark monsters could care less about where another cultivator had gone to and continued chasing after Feng Luotian, the twins behind them stopped and investigated the area around the boulder.

“Where does that monkey disappear to, Whitey?”
“I don’t know, Blackie!! I can’t sense his aura after they rammed into this boulder.”
“Maybe he was kept inside the spatial ring. Is that possible, Whitey?”
“Indeed, Blackie. That’s possible. High-grade spatial rings could store two or three humans.”
The twins looked at each other and uttered at the same time: “Let’s resume the chase then!!”
After the twins left, on the wall within the boulder’s tunnel, a piece of stone started to move and gradually turned back into a human figure which was Sun Wuji. His ability [Stone Transformation] could be used to camouflage himself together with the stone-like object.
“I better hurry back to the Peacock Pavilion, but if those twins abruptly returned, I’d be toast. Maybe I should stay here for a while and wait for Brother Feng to call back.”
Following that, he transformed himself and merged into the boulder again.
The deeper Feng Luotian ventured into the Nefarious Valley, the more aura he could sense that was increasingly following behind him.
While the twins became more cautious as they were going deeper and deeper, their speed was also slowing down. Because of that, Feng Luotian deactivated his [Pinnacle Flash Lightning] to preserve his Theríon.
Due to the fact that he just fought a battle, after a long escape, his Theríon almost ran out. Nevertheless, he was constantly moving. The moment he stopped, what was creeping behind him would all prance their ways to attack him.
As he moved, Feng Luotian fetched the remaining Moon Lotus Seeds from his spatial ring and consumed them to restore his Theríon.
From time to time, there would be an attack in the form of Theríon blast flew out of the trees aiming at him, but with his [Momentum Eyes] … “how could such an easy-to-dodge attack land a hit on me?”
As if they could read his mind, the monsters started to synchronize their attacks as they shot in pattern and prevented Feng Luotian from avoiding their strikes: “These guys are clever, aren’t they?”
With the number of monsters tailing him increased to more than a hundred and their combined attacks now impossible to dodge with his current speed, Feng Luotian could not help but activate his [Pinnacle Flash Lightning] again.
In spite of activating his speed skill, Feng Luotian needed to avoid the persistent assault from the monsters while having to pay attention to the twins not knowing when they would take an advantage of the situation.
And just like he thought, the moment Feng Luotian ran into what looked like a 5-meters giant brownish long vine which restricted his movement and escaping paths, the monsters came forward and bombarded him with their frenzy attacks.
Even though Feng Luotian could dodge all of them, but in the end, it was quite a close call. Exploiting that instant, the twins formed a hand seal and shot a Theríon beam at Feng Luotian, blasting him to that huge vine. After he dropped to the ground and his hands and knees hit the floor, Feng Luotian spat out some blood after taking the full brunt of the twins’ attack.
At this moment, Feng Luotian expected a horde of a hundred some dark monsters to stampede at him without reserving, but what really happened surprised him. Every dark monster retreated back to the way they came from in a panic-stricken manner. The twins abruptly paused and withdrew to a mile away.
Although he already had a guess in his mind, Feng Luotian turned to look and confirm what was behind him.
The ground rumblingly shook. What was thought to be a giant vine moved on its own and turned out to be a tail of a monkey that sized up to a hundred meters. And right now, its eyes were fixating on Feng Luotian.
The pressure from its aura alone told Feng Luotian that there was no hope in fighting this guy, and at the same instant, Kronos was making it clearer as the info panel appeared.

Ortus (Old Version)
This is an old version of the heavily edited and rewritten Ortus This is the story of a woman named Riza. Riza is a woman who wakes up in a forest with nothing, remembering nothing, and on the cusp of death. The only thing she has is a weapon stuck in her side and, after a tangle with a wild boar, something called 'life aspect'. Little does she know that life magic is considered a dead-end branch and is largely outlawed across the world. None of this matters to her, of course. For one, even if someone tried to tell her, she doesn't know the language. Number two, have you heard about the sunk cost fallacy? Riza is not some chosen one, nor is given any boon she doesn't deserve. Instead, she's smart and methodical, and experiements on how to maximise every opportunity, every ability, presented to her. She doesn't just take things at face-value but instead explores just what limitations there are. This often involves maths.

Rantings of the Broken
These are poems of my thoughts. Since I can't talk to people about them, I need to talk to someone about my thoughts, even if they're reading it over a screen. They may be dark and you may see the brokeness inside, but hopefully I will be able to find hope and a reason to live. If you don't want to read the story, that doesn't offend me. You'll just be ignoring the cries of the broken.

The Plant Dungeon
I wrote this a while ago at my website. It is a mix of cultivation/dungeon with a few LitRPG themes, but not enough to justify the tag. I am migrating it here, so I don't have to keep paying WordPress for the site. I will continue writing this. So... Now for the synopsis. Follow the life of an unusual adventurer who got turned into a dungeon. Well... that was short. I guess I would just suggest reading the first few chapters to see how you like it. (remember, if enough people ask for it, I will continue writing it.) I have no Idea who owns the picture I used for the cover. If you want it down PM me and I'll take it down.

Inveigle
Cora Carpenter lives in an America where over 90% of the popular vote went to one presidential candidate. New policies pervade the American culture such as the Better Homes Better Future Act where all pregnant couples must pass an IQ test with 90 or higher and scores are tattooed on the infants skull for record keeping. Anything lower and the child is given to a more suitable home. Or the Volunteer Tax because if someone has time to dedicate to the less fortunate, then they must of course have extra income to spare. The best part, everyone agrees to these laws because if not one phone call is all it takes for someone to disappear. But what if persuasion isn't a learned skill but a gift embedded into a person by ancient beings? And what if these ancient beings are at war with each other? This story has been completed.
