《Light of Returning Darkness》CH 23 : RAVEN VILLAGE

After Feng Luotian finished putting a few healing herbs upon the mother’s injured hand and wrapping it with bandages, he said: “Your wound will be healed within two days’ time, Aunt Wu.”
Wu Ya said: “Thank you, benefactor. We don’t know how we can repay you with all your help." Wu Ya was the mother’s name, as for her daughter, her name was Wu Xin.
Feng Luotian looked at Wu Ya as he requested: “It’s alright. You don’t have to repay anything, but I’d like to ask one thing from Aunt Wu.”
Wu Ya avoided his gaze and sighed in her heart: "After learning their goal, he must want to ask about what we have in the village that can attract the Troupe to act. Well, all men are the same, aren’t they?"
Even with such thoughts, she still asked: “You want to ask what they want from us, right, benefactor?” Her voice dimmed down as she was inwardly looking down on him.
Feng Luotian asked: “Why would I want to know that? I just want to ask if you know their hideout’s location.”
Feng Luotian’s question surprised Wu Ya: “What?”
Feng Luotian indifferently asked again: “You don’t know where they are, Aunt Wu?”
Wu Ya did not know what to say because the conversation did not go where she expected, rather it was on the opposite side: “I know that but … what are you going to do, benefactor?”
Feng Luotian said with a playful smile: “Nothing. I only want to pay them a visit.”
But a small voice sounded from behind Wu Ya: “No, you can’t go there, big brother!!”
Her mother berated her for speaking out of her line: “Xin’er!!”
Feng Luotian: “It’s okay, Aunt Wu.” He waved his hand and turned to Wu Xin: “And why can’t I go there, little girl?”
Wu Xin: “Because they are all bad guys and they are all strong!!”

Feng Luotian smiled at the girl and crouched down until his height was about the same as her: “I think you’re stronger than them, in a certain aspect. You protected your mother even when you know that you don’t stand a chance against them. I admire you a lot for that.”
Before he finished the sentence, he placed his hand on her head, then stroke it gently. After that, he pinched both of her cheeks: “And how did you know that I’m not strong enough to fight them?”
“Aww!! That’s hurt, big brother. It’s because I’ve seen their Boss before.”
“Oh? What’s he like? How strong is he?”
Wu Xin: “He was super strong!! There’s no one in the village who can fight him. If not for Big Sister Tu interfering, that bad guy would already kill us.”
Feng Luotian turned to Wu Ya as he did not get his desired answer.
Wu Ya answered: “He was an Eight Fangs Fighter. There’s also another guy, probably a vice-leader of the Troupe. He was at Seven Fangs.”
“Umm.” Feng Luotian calculated something in his mind while his fingers playing with his chin. For him, he might have a way to fight an Eight Fangs Fighter one-on-one, but together with a Seven Fangs and the rest of his Troupe, that was practically impossible.
Feng Luotian asked: “And who is this Big Sister Tu?”
Wu Ya explained: “I think she came from the Vermillion Kingdom. I noticed a sigil unique to the Kingdom on her spatial bag. She helped us fend off the Troupe by ambushing their hideout every time their Boss comes out to deal with our village.”
Feng Luotian commented: “Your village and their hideout must be quite close then.” If someone could ambush the bandits’ hideout after seeing them coming their way, not only must that person be really fast, but two places must also be approximately close to each other.

Wu Xin answered: “No. It’s a few kilometers apart.”
Feng Luotian turned to the girl and curiously asked: “Then how could Big Sister Tu ambush their base that fast?”
Wu Xin giggled before saying: “She can fly.”
Feng Luotian was amazed, albeit just a little bit: “Is she a Wing Realm Master?”
Wu Ya: “No, she’s just Six Fangs.”
Feng Luotian asked again: “How old is she?” Wu Xin called her ‘Big Sister’, that meant she was probably still in her teen.
Wu Ya now laughed a bit too: “I think she’s younger than you, benefactor.”
“Interesting!!” Feng Luotian exclaimed, as he thought: “Someone under 14 achieved Six Fangs and was able to fly?”
The bloodline abilities that allowed users to fly at the Fang Realm were super rare. Their number could be counted with one’s fingers. Even the dragon or phoenix’s bloodlines could not do such things. As one of the phoenix bloodline’s descendants himself, Feng Luotian had no way to fly at the Fang Realm.
Wu Xin proposed as she gave a teasing glance at Feng Luotian: “Mother, let’s take him back to our village. I think he wants to meet Big Sister Tu. Hehe.”
Wu Ya also agreed with her daughter: “Mhm. It would be better for him to know more about the situation than to charge into their hideout right away. Isn’t that right, benefactor?” She was doubtful earlier, but ever since the start of their conversation, Feng Luotian never once mentioned the item the bandit wanted. Also, Feng Luotian never suggested visiting the village, meaning he had no hidden agenda against the village.
Feng Luotian was considerate when it came to entering other’s territories: “This … is this proper since I’m not from your village?”
Not waiting for any answer from Feng Luotian, Wu Xin pulled his hand and led him towards her village: “It will be fine as long as we say it!!”
Two hours later, they reached the village.
The village only consisted of twenty-some huts made of mud and straw. A single swipe from Feng Luotian’s training partner, the Blade Tail Silver Lion, could obliterate their home. Yet, even living amongst thousands of monsters, they seemed to be spending their lives just fine.
This made Feng Luotian curious more and more about this village, as he asked: “What’s your village called, Little Xin?”
Wu Xin replied: “It’s called Raven … Raven Village.”
“Raven Village?”
As the matter of fact, Feng Luotian had already seen Wu Ya’s status through Kronos and identified her bloodline and ability. As he looked at the villagers, all of them held the same bloodline as Wu Ya. Their bloodline was [Underworld Raven Bloodline], with an ability to forcefully send dead souls to the underworld.
For normal cultivators on a lower planet, the notion of the underworld would only be said as a myth.
Underworld was resided in another dimension paralleling with the current world. Only a few people knew how to cross over without dying. That was why the underworld was just a myth because there was no way to prove its existence. No one on the planet knew whether the underworld was actually existed or not, including even these people who had the bloodline and ability directly related to the underworld.
But Feng Luotian knew all about this so-called underworld too well. Why? It was because, in his past life, this underworld was his former home, the house of the Demon God Clan ruled by his father.
Souls that were sent to the underworld through [Guide of Souls] ability of [Underworld Raven Bloodline] cultivators would transform into a devil serving as soldiers under Demon God Clan’s banner. And not just humans’ souls that were applied here, monsters’ souls could also be sent to the underworld to undergo devil transformation as well.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
