《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》Beginning Of The End - Part 009

After so many hours that Elysif got bored and Lily fell asleep, Compton finally began shouting like a madman with a voice of glee. His shouts could have probably been heard above ground but we all knew that no one above cared enough to investigate his joyous cries. Since there was no one else to see what he was shouting about, I ended up checking on him.
“What’s up? Something good, or bad?” I asked as I entered the room. Compton was wearing a large smile upon his face that could only be described as pure joy.
“Better than good. How much do you know about Greek mythology?” Compton asked.
“A fair amount. I guess.” I replied with an unsure tone.
“Well, you know about the three main ones. Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon, right?” Compton asked.
“Yeah… though, not much.” I replied.
“To put it simply, they had a dad. And you know how we saw Medea attempt to summon you?”
“Yes?”
“Well that ritual used to be a special ritual used to create more Elder Ones. It seems that Tim placed a ton of Elder Ones all around but they got lonely so they were given a ritual to allow them to make more of them. The problem was that it required sacrifices. The more sacrifices, the more powerful that they were.” Compton explained.
“So it’s like a gacha game where the in-game currency is human lives?” I replied jokingly.
“I don’t know what half of that means. Anyways, it seems that some of the summoned Elder Ones didn’t like being the creation of mass genocide so the Three main God’s at the time fought their dad, Kronos and trapped him underground. Hades became the guardian of Kronos and basically the keeper of the dead. However, the big three wanted more Elder Ones to help them out so the people that worshipped them would bring criminals in which they would use for the ritual so that they could make more.” Compton continued to explain.

“Okay, now what does this have to do with Merlin?” I asked impatiently.
“I’m gettin to it. Basically, after a while, Zeus and a few of the other Elder Ones decided that they wanted to try it the human way and ended up with some okay children that became Elder Ones or demigods. Though, some… didn’t. They became what we call monsters. The Greek pantheon wasn’t the only ones doing this though. This happened all over the world. Somewhere along the lines, some humans saw the Elder One summoning ritual and tried to emulate it. However, it only let them summon the deceased. Thus, leading to necromancy. Only some of their texts survived and were placed in the library of Alexandria which, as we already know, was burned down… except for a few texts that were saved by Reubin Reuben.” Compton said as he went on and on.
“Get to the point already!” I said with my patience running thin.
“Alright, to simplify this. Merlin shouldn’t have the correct ritual. If he received it from Ruebin Reuben’s collection who stole it from the library then it’s a necromancy ritual. Using it to bring out an Elder One may be impossible to begin with.” Compton said, which led me to being even more confused than I already was.
“Explain it to me like I’m stupid please. This is making my head hurt.” I said as I held my head.
“That won’t be too difficult but I’ll try. We need to steal the book from Reubin Reuben and alter it so that it backfires.” Compton finally said.
“Sounds difficult. Plus, we have no clue where he might be until the 1880’s. Is there a back up idea?” I asked.
“Well, we could try talking with an Elder One?” Compton offered with a face that told me I just killed his dreams or something similar... Like his dog.

“Do you know where one is?” I asked.
“Kronos may still be trapped in Tartarus. We could check there?”
“Okay, where is Tartarus?”
“No clue. Maybe that informant could find it for us?”
“That is possible. Then we could time travel a few years into the future and he may have found it by then.”
“Sounds like a plan. Though, I wish we had more leads than this. In fact, this is a far stretch that I barely pieced together so I may be wrong.” Compton said with a sigh.
“Hey, it’s better than nothing.” I replied.

City of Champions Online
Having found the tragic truth that an art degree is worth less than the paper it is printed on, Jacquelyn Jones is frustrated with her dead end work as a graphic designer for a marketing firm, finding new ways to try and convince people that this week's 50 cent off sale is actually worth driving to the store. She's tried other VRMMORPGs, but they've all been fantasy-based, with a couple sci-fi games thrown in. But she wants something more, something Super. Superhero VRMMOs have had a... subpar reception in the past, in part due to the fact that the nature of most MMOs makes for fairly unheroic tales. After the couple hundredth time blasting the same group of mooks from the same faction on the same street corner of the same city, using the same powerset as everyone else because you only have a few options, it is hard to think of yourself as a hero anymore. But then she heard about City of Champions Online. For the first time, a developer partnered with a tabletop RPG maker to use their system to create a VRMMORPG, and it was one of the systems designed to be used with superhero games! And despite the name, there was no getting stuck in the same city as all the other players. The game world was a detailed replica of the real world, down to having some of the same shops and restaurants in town. She could be whoever she wanted, whatever she wanted. Now, she just has to find a way to become the heroine she's always wanted to be.

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment. The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
