《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 049

As Mordred and I traded blows with Merlin through a switch tactic the tent around us burnt to the ground. Revealing us to the enemy who was now ready to kill us. Langston readied himself to fight all of them himself, although he didn’t look up to the task at all. As the enemy archer raised their bows, several hundred blades appeared from the earth and pierced through every last one of them. The Seer didn’t even bother to react.
Merlin had defeated every last one of them in a matter of seconds. Yet he still had trouble dealing with both Mordred and I. the flames of Mordred’s sword made it difficult for him to defend her attacks properly and most of the flames kept burning parts of his robe. My attacks also were hard for him to deal with as I was far faster than him or Mordred. The only problem I was having was that Mordred’s flames were hindering me. Despite being able to have my limbs cut off with no issue it didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt. Thus, getting burnt would hurt like hell.
Finally, when I had a chance to attack him without being hindered or blocked, I swung my sword only for a wall of swords to appear from the earth and stop me. I tried diving around it to attack from behind him only for the wall to extend as more swords appeared. Next, even more swords appeared until they had trapped me. I tried to jump out but the swords just kept getting taller. Without any warning swords shot up from below me in an attempt to pierce me like some kind of pitfall trap.
Before I could react to it my feet were covered in spectral armor and the blades which were supposed to spear through me ended up launching me out of the cage. Below me I saw Mordred, who was still fighting Merlin with every ounce of rage she had and Langston, who was still trying to figure out what the hell was going on. The Seer who was sitting so calmly before was now nowhere to be found.

Since Merlin had yet to see that I was falling from the sky I angrily swung my sword at him. Like before, the tip of my sword began to glow and a beam of light shot out of the tip. Cutting through the space in front of me, Merlin saw the light coming towards him and instantly jumped backwards. Mordred waited for my attack to pass before pursuing Merlin any more. Landing on the ground as I finished my swing hurt as I had been flung nearly forty feet in the air. My body was broken in several places but my bones quickly began healing.
Merlin stood before Mordred with a small line cut between them in the ground. Neither had the energy to make a move against the other at this point. However, Merlin raised Excalibur towards Mordred as a way to goad her into attacking him again. When he did though, he did not raise Excalibur in its entirety. The blade which was said to be the strongest of all Freya’s creations had been cut in two. Lying on the ground in between them was the tip of Excalibur. Merlin looked at it dumbstruck, then he looked at me who was just starting to stand up again.
“You used the power of Excalibur against itself? My wife’s greatest creation is now destroyed!” Merlin yelled. As he did, blades shot out of earth below Mordred and I. It filled up the entire space around us in a matter of a second. Piercing through my skin and flesh wherever my spectral armor did not appear. I could not move and the pain was barely bearable. Looking over I saw Mordred, pierced in the same fashion as I was. Although the blades hadn’t pierced through certain parts of her body due to her armor it looked painful. No, it looked like she was dead.

“Mordred! Mordred! Are you okay?” I called out with a pained tone. She didn;t move at all. Not a single centimeter nor a single gasp for air. The blades which had pierced both her and I returned to the earth. Crawling over to her as my body desperately healed itself I saw that she was completely dead. There wasn’t any light left in her eyes nor did she draw any breath.
“Mordred, please! Don’t die! You were going to kill Merlin weren’t you?” I pleaded with her corpse but nothing happened. No answer, no nod, nothing. Langston, who had not known what to do this whole fight, dropped to his knees at the sight of his friend lying before me dead.
“It was quite a shame that she had to die. Had she stayed inside that pendant of yours then she wouldn’t have died. You can only blame yourself for bringing her along.” Merlin said with no sympathy whatsoever. Doing all that I could think of I touched her body to the pendant causing her to disappear inside of it. All that was left with me was my sword and Clarent.
“I’ll kill you!” I shrieked as I stood up holding both her sword and mine. Merlin raised an eyebrow at the sight but did nothing. Coating myself in blue-ish black mist I charged at Merlin. There was no way that he could block or dodge. It was easy for me to kill him. I didn;t care about what some time god said or what the universe was going to do. There was nothing that could stop my rage.
Right as I made our swords cross against his neck I disappeared. Merlin felt a slight nick against his neck and rubbed his hand against it. A small trickle of blood was spread across his hand and he looked around confused. The one who he thought was about to kill him disappeared without a trace. It was as if he vanished into thin air. With a light sigh Merlin walked over to Langston and grabbed him by the hair so that the still in shock knight could see his face.
“Now, you listen to me. If you want to keep on living then you’ll do everything I say. If not then you’ll suffer far worse pains than anything you’ve ever imagined.” Merlin said. The knight just stared at him with vacant eyes.
“Do you understand me?” Merlin asked angrily.
“Yes. though tell me. Why did you kill her?” Langston asked.
“Simple, she wasn’t the Mordred you know. Just a puppet of that Masked Man.” Merlin said as he began walking back to the fort. Langston slowly stood up and began following him with slight hesitation.

Where Giants Fall
A fantasy LitRPG about traversing through worlds and slaying giants with nothing but a wooden suit and an army of treants. Nicholas Atkins didn't expect to wake up naked in the glowing woods. What he did expect was waking up to a hangover after last night's party- fortunately, that wasn't the case. Unfortunately though, he had worse problems to take care of than a headache. At first he blamed it on the alcohol; from what he recalled in Biology, glowing flowers didn't exactly exist in the realm of reality. However he was as sober as he could be, so next he blamed the drugs, but there was a problem- he didn't have the money to do drugs in the first place. When the fairies came, things became even weirder. Talks of climbing towers, magic tricks, and dinner were all on the table. Of course, dinner was the priority, but so was getting back home. However slowly, Nico realized that he might actually want to stay in this fantasy world. After all, he's had enough listening to Professor Paul's lecture on calculus- the swords and sorceries were just an added bonus. Still, staying in this new world has its own costs- and money is but one thing on that long, long list. Updated everyday except Saturday GMT+8 (Specific time varies by around 30 minutes).
