《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 028

Saxon’s were charging into the castle from two of the four doors at this point so many of their soldiers were going through the castle. However, not even their screams were allowed to leave as their last sight alive was of a blue-ish black cloud passing by them, leaving only a series of blood stains and dismembered corpses. I didn’t care who they were. If they were dressed as a Saxon soldier then I cut them down without remorse.
I was enraged and that meant that my sword was going to activate. However, it did not. Either there wasn’t enough magic stored up or something but it didn’t. I couldn’t tell you why but I wasn’t really thinking about it. I just wanted to kill every Saxon in Camelot. Whether it was out of a desire to vent or a desire for revenge, I couldn’t tell you. It was just… necessary.
I don’t know how long it took me but by the time I had calmed down every Saxon who wasn’t dead already fell to my blade. None of the knights who saw me knew what the blue-ish black mist was but they didn’t care. They had survived and as long as it didn’t turn on them they didn’t care. Thus, I didn’t bother telling anyone nor showing anyone that I was the mist that saved them. I wasn’t a savior whether I wanted to be or not. I couldn’t even save Gwaine in the end.
Not knowing what else to do I walked my way back up to the hill where Medea and Lily were and thankfully they were unharmed. Over the hill behind them was Arthur with the caravan of knights trailing behind him at the fastest speed their horses and men could traverse. Coming up on us Arthur stopped beside us and looked out at Camelot in ruin with a face of distraught fury.

“Micheal, what has happened?” Arthur asked with a concerned look that barely hid his rage.
“Saxon’s attacked and destroyed most of Camelot. Though the knights fought them off. Both I and Gwaine aided Camelot in their defenses.” I said without hesitation.
“Are there any surviving Saxon’s?” he asked as if he wanted their heads on a pike.
“No, they’re all dead.” I replied.
“Where is Gwaine? Did he not come with you to meet me?” he asked. I couldn’t think of what to say. Although my mouth opened to say something, nothing came out.
“Well, where is he?” Arthur repeated.
“Gwaine’s dead! He was overtaken by a curse and was killed…” I stated with quivering lips that were hidden by the mask. Arthur didn’t reply. He looked almost out of breath for a moment before he nodded his head and began riding down the hill towards Camelot at a slow walking speed.
Medea and Lily rode up to me on the horse as soon as Arthur and the caravan began moving again towards Camelot. Without saying a word I climbed onto the horse and rode alongside the caravan. From the front the knights began whispering about the death of Gwaine until it reached the end. Galehuat and Lancelot who were near Arthur didn’t speak a word either out of respect or because they didn’t know what to say.
Riding into the city everyone was devastated by the sight of the homes still burning or burnt completely. Many of them were worried for their loved ones inside the city but saw no sign of them. Their hearts were burdened by their imagination as they thought about what could have happened to them. Merlin noticed the unsettling aura among the knight’s and brought it to Arthur’s attention who was too shocked to bear noticing the others around him. However, he understood their feelings and stopped his horse before turning around to face them.

“Men, If you have family or friends, go find them. If they have passed then we shall have them buried with the highest honors. If you are alone then do as you wish until dawn. Rest and know you are not alone in your suffering. In the morning we shall return to our duties.” Arthur said in a solemn but dignified way. The knights upon hearing this spread out. Many went to their homes to search for their families while others went to the castle to see if they were there.
Arthur, Merlin, Lancelot, and Galehuat all rode to the stables which had been burned to the ground and let their horses into a small field so that they could rest. I followed them and did the same before going into the castle alongside them. Arthur was still in shock from the sight and was even more shocked by the pile of corpses strewn about the stone patio before the door. I had to shield Medea’s eyes from it due to the gore as we walked up to it.
“Is my wife, sister, and children okay?” Arthur asked with a look that told me if he heard any more bad news he wouldn’t be able to take it.
“I do not know about your wife and children. Though, Mordred and her mother are okay.” I said in a hushed tone so that the others wouldn’t hear.
He simply nodded his head and gave a forced smile before going in the door. Knights and Saxon’s were laid out in piles while some of the knights who were still alive were either having a breakdown next to a fallen comrade or were moving the corpses. At the sight of it I was horrified. I was fighting the dullahan right outside this door and yet I wasn’t able to save any of them. They all died and it was in part due to my inability to save them. It was almost sickening though I had gotten used to this feeling. Ever since the first day after I time traveled I had seen death time and time again. This time was different because I had been the one to kill most of them.
“Lancelot, Galehuat, please relieve the knights for now. Have them go rest or find their families. We shall resume clean up and repairs at sunrise.” Arthur said before walking down the hallway towards the western door with Merlin, Medea, Lily, and I following right behind.
