《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 020

“Bloody hell! If I knew it was that easy then I would have done that ages ago.” one of the knights said with a frustrated look.
“Yeah, you would have to be stupid to try that and crazy to actually succeed.” another knight said.
I just looked at my cup and chuckled a bit as I had no way to counter their logic. I didn’t really know what I was thinking when I did it. I just couldn’t think of any other way to do it. Though it didn’t really matter. I succeeded so whether it was stupid or not didn’t matter.
“Anyways,I know you wanted to be there but we gave your friend a proper burial. He was honored as if it were you. I hope that was enough?” Arthur said to change the subject.
“Thank you. I wanted to be there but I had to save Medea first.” I replied as I drank the last of my ale.
“You’re welcome. Thank you for making my life a little easier.” Arthur said before filling my cup up with more ale.
We drank for what felt like a couple of hours. Though I was informed by Medea and Lily when they went looking for me that it had only been one. Everyone around us was finishing their packing and were loading up the carts and horses so that they could head out for Camelot. Since I had a horse and was already packed up thanks to Medea and Lily, Arthur sent me with Gwaine and Galehuat to scout the road.
The way back looked the same as it did before for the first several hours as nothing seemed out of the ordinary. That is, until we arrived back at the spot where the tree had fallen in the road before. We didn’t see any of the chunks of logs that we had removed before nor any of the burnt corpses that we knew were there before. Instead there laid a giant tree trunk in the center of the road just as if we had never chopped it up and rolled it out of the road in the first place.

“Sir Micheal, do you see what I see?” Gwaine asked.
“Yes I do and I don’t like it. It’s as if someone put the tree back together again.” I replied in somewhat of a state of shock.
“What’s wrong. It’s just a tree.” Galehuat said, not entirely sure what we were on about.
“We cut up that tree and moved it out of the way on the way here. Now it’s back to where it was before.” I stated.
“Oh… that does sound like a conundrum. We should probably move it.” Galehuat replied before riding up to the tree and dismounting. Gwaine and I both followed him and did the same. Since I wasn’t sure how safe it was yet I had Medea stay on the horse just in case.
Sizing the tree up and down Galehuat wrapped his arms around the base of the tree as best as he could and lifted the entire fucking thing like it he was some kind of dead lifter. Both Gwaine and I watched in shock as the half giant man slowly waddled with the tree in hand until it was out of the way of the road. Neither of us could comprehend what we just saw so we just accepted it.
“We should probably get going now.” Galehuat said after he set the hulking tree down on the side of the road. Just as he did a crossbow bolt struck him in the shoulder, sending him on his back. “Well that was unexpected.” he said to himself as he sat up and removed the arrow from his shoulder with a slight hiss of pain.
“It’s an ambush!” Gwaine yelled as he drew his sword. Suddenly a large crowd of Saxon’s all armed with crossbows emerged from the treelines on either side of the road.

“Medea, run!” I yelled as I too drew my sword. Doing as I asked, Medea took off on the horse until she was out of range of any of the crossbow bolts.
Galehuat pulled the shield off his back as well as his giant axe just in time for two Saxon’s to get close to him. Cleaving through them with barely any effort Galehuat stood up and let out a threatening roar. The Saxon’s closest to him all cowered in fear before releasing a volley of bolts at him. Blocking them with his shield he charged at them and began cleaving his way through the fearful soldiers.
Gwaine on the other hand was dodging bolts as best he could. His shield was far too small to be effective from all sides so he watched the tips of the arrows before they were fired so that he could estimate where they were going to strike. Due to his efforts to dodge their attacks many of the Saxon’s attempted to charge him head on. Though, much to their displeasure, as soon as their weapons made contact with Gwaine’s sword they snapped like twigs. With no other way to fight him, fleeing was their only option but to no avail. Gwaine cut through each of them before they could run as if they were butter and his sword, a hot knife.
Like the rest many crossbow bolts were fired at me only to miss. Focusing as best I could, I was coated in the blue-ish black mist and the world around me slowed down. I could see the crossbow bolts flying at me as well as the air that it ripped through. Charging forward I cut through each one of them one by one. Something felt off about them though. As I cut them down I recognized many of their faces. Not from anyone I knew but I felt as if I had seen them somewhere before. Then it hit me. They were the same people we had killed in this exact spot.

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. Any hope for a quick end to Napoleon's rampage across Europe ended when the Great Gates opened in 1800. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

Deviant's Masquerade: The Huntsman's Quest (An Urban Magic Quest/RPG)
Jon Whitaker went to summer camp expecting a nice relaxing time as a newly minted counselor in training. He was not expecting to fight an army of monsters, work with a serial killer, enter a one-sided friendship with an eldritch horror, or study under a competing witch and dark lord. But regardless of what he was expecting, his summer is over and he's made his way back home where he can try and return to a normal -for him- life. Too bad life rarely goes as expected. --- Please Note: This is forum quest/RPG I run in the same city/setting as my other stories Hacking Reality and Get Ink'd, meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes. Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.
